Alfalfa
Leaves: three part leaves
Flowers: blue, yellow, or purple and clustered around a central stem
Stems: perennial with erect smooth stems
Height: grows to 80cm
Harvest: Harvest as the flowers bloom. Cut the plants back and leave the stem to keep growing. Hang dry. Keep some seeds for easy sprouting. The leaves and sprouts are used.
Healer use: Leaves infused as a tea to be used as an appetite stimulant. The tea soothes the stomach as well and acts as a diuretic. Alfalfa is also used to treat anemia, menopause, arthritc and rheumatic pains, cystitis, increases breast milk flow, and as a mouth deodorizer.
Cooking use: Leaves and sprouted seeds can be eaten in salads.
Other uses: The seeds make a yellow dye for Weavercraft. Herders and farmers add alfalfa to fodder, where it is said to increase speed for runners and milk production for herdbeasts.
