Healer use: A decoction of the leaves is a blood and skin tonic. A poultice of the leaves treats skin disorders.

Cooking use: Berries can be eaten raw, or made into bubblies and jams. They can also be made into wine and brandy.

Other uses: Weavercraft uses the berries to make a blue-gray dye and the young shoots make a creamy fawn color when alum is used as moderant.
