Hops
Leaves: rough and serrated with 3 -5 lobes
Flowers: small flowers that bloom in mid-to-late summer; mature into a papery cluster of brownish leaflets that have a slight garlicky odor
Stems: long and angular, similar to grape vines
Fruit: scale and cone shaped
Height: typically grows 7-10m in a single season, and has been knonw to reache a full dragonlength in height or more
Notes: grows rapidly and can be invasive and hard to kill; but dies back to the ground every turn
Danger: Can cause diarrhea or rash. Avoid prolonged use. Avoid if depressed.
Healer use: Flower clusters can be placed in pillows, as the aroma helps a person sleep. A tea of the same clusters is a mild sedative and muscle relaxer, and as a hot poultice they reduce inflammation. This herb is also useful as a diuretic, and in treating menstrual cramps, headaches, fever, inflammation, and appetite stimulant. Flowers of the female plants are used for their antiseptic and antispasmodic properties. Dried hops is a stiumlant. In salve form, it will soften the skin.
Cooking use: Young shoots are eaten as a vegetable and leaves are blanched for soups.
Other uses: Hops is one of the primary ingredients in beers and ales. The vines can be used to weave baskets and to make a coarse cloth.
