Verbena
Leaves: three lobed toothed leaves
Flowers: pale summer flowers on spikes that form at the end of the stem
Stem: erect stem 1-2 ft high
Height: grows to 3m
Harvest: collect before flowers open and dry quickly
Danger: Avoid if pregnant. This herb will depress heart rate.
Healer use: Leaf tea is refreshing and mildly sedative, soothing bronchial and nasal congrestion. It also eases indigestion, nausea, gas, stomach cramps, and palpitations. An infusion of the leaves soothes puffy eyes. Long term usage may irritate the stomach. The aerial parts are a uterine stimulant, nervine, liver restorative, and sedative. It will promote lactation. Also, verbena may be used to treat asthma, fever, insomnia, tension, and stress. A decoction will help with PMS. Poutlices may be used for skin diseases and wounds.
Cooking use: Leaves are used to flavor drinks, fruit, sweet dishes, and to make teas.
