Willowsalic
Leaves: alternate long, narrow, lance-like leaves that are silky on both sides
Flowers: tiny flowers appear in mid-spring
Height: shrub size to over 15m in height
Harvest: take bark from older branches
Locations: willows are adapted to climates all over Pern, but are always found near a body of water, preferring river banks; various species can tolerate different amounts of drought
Danger: Avoid if pregnant.
Healer use: Bark can be harvested at any time, and is used to ease fever and pain in cases where stronger analgesics are inappropriate. An infusion of the bark can also be used as a sore throat gargle, to treat heartburn, stomach problems, and food poisoning. Infused leaves make a tea for relieving insomnia and can be added to baths to ease rheumatism.
Other uses: Willows provide the best quality artist's charcoal, and the branches are used for weaving.
