Leaves: fine and narrow
Flowers: dense flat white or pink flowers from summer to fall
Stem: angular hairy plant with branching stem at top
Height: grows to 1m
Harvest: whole herby any time when in flower during summer or fall
Danger: Avoid if pregnant. Overdose can lead to skin sensitivity in sunlight.
Healer use: Flowering tops are a digestive tonic, a diuretic, and used to reduce high blood pressure. Fresh leaves arrest bleeding and are applied as a poultice to wounds and shaving cuts. Flowers treat skin disorders. The flower oil treats colds, flu, and inflamed joints. Fresh leaves can be chewed to relieve toothache. Leaf tea aides digestive problems, regulates menstrual flow, and induces perspiration. It is also used as a mouthwash for inflamed gums. It is a uterine stimulant and can be used on burns, hmorrhoids, bruises, to treat catarrh, oily skin and hair, insomnia, eczema, and asthma.
Other uses: Dry leaves are used to scent linen. Rhyzomes yield a red dye.
