Description: K'lvin witnesses an upsetting incident between Bahji and Eirlira.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 9, day 19 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: K'sedel
After dropping Kylena off with her foster mother, K'lvin turned and
headed for the crafters' area. Now that she had settled back into life
at River Bluff, Bahji had taken up her weaver classes again, and
K'lvin was glad. Seeing his weyrmate independent and pursuing her
interests was what he wanted, and it made him feel better about the
long hours that he had to put in as Wingleader.
Today he figured he would surprise her by waiting for her outside the
weaver's workshop to walk with her back to their weyr.
A curly haired weyrling met him at the entrance, the pouty face set in
a firm line of displeasure. She sighted K'lvin and frowned slightly,
crossing her arms as her eyes darted away and then back. Her lips
tightened and she gave a little huff.
Bahji opened the door and nearly ran into her before she stopped
herself, Burst giving a sharp chirrup of warning. "Excuse me."
Eirlira's eyes darted to K'lvin before she stepped back, apparently
displeased at his arrival. "I would if there was one for you." She
spun on her feet and stomped into the door, brushing pointedly past
Bahji. "Move, I need to speak to an _actual_ weaver."
Bahji frowned, disturbed by the insult and not knowing that her
weyrmate was near by, stiffened. "Excuse me?"
K'lvin's narrowed eyes watched as Eirlira went into the weaver's
workshop. He could not fathom why she was so antagonistic toward
Bahji, and while he did not have solid proof that she had switched
Bahji's teas, he _knew_ that she had. But until he had solid proof to
take to K'sedel, he would just have to keep quiet and keep watching
her. Oh, and he would definitely be requesting to have her put in his
Wing, where he could watch her closely.
The Wingleader reached out and touched his weyrmate's elbow, "Hey."
Bahji jumped at the touch and gasped before relaxing. "Oh, K'lvin.
Sorry, I was distracted and..." Her brow furrowed as she tilted her
head and then finally smiled. "What are you doing here? I thought you
had drills today?"
"I did, but I let them go early today. We've been drilling hard lately
and they deservea little break." K'lvin said, his voice casual even
though his eyes were still following the retreating figure of Eirlira.
Eirlira turned, her nose in the air, but her eyes rested on Bahji with
distinct displeasure. She had thought the little blind cripple was
gone! She cropped up like a bad 1/64 mark. And with that bronzerider
too; life was simply just not fair. Her eyes flicked to K'lvin and
then flicked over him, considering before she flounced away and out of
sight. She'd take care of that later, after she got her new trousers.
Bahji nodded and reached out for his hand, curling her fingers around
his. "That was nice of you. So you came to walk me home?" Her smile
was bright, already pushing aside the brief confrontation.
With Eirlira's disappearance, K'lvin turned his attention back to
Bahji and smiled down at her, "That's right." He gave her slender hand
a squeeze. "How was class?"
There was a wry smile. "It was about dyes. Not exactly helpful, but I
did learn that they have a different smell to each one. Though, red
and orange smell a little alike. But still, it's not really something
that I'll do a lot with. I like my textures and dyeing any cloth
requires a good eye." Her lips quirked upwards. "You sounded
distracted. Is everything okay?"
"Well, I was thinking how I would like to throttle Eirlira, but I
don't want to bother you with that." There was a light tease in
K'lvin's voice, but also an edge that said he meant it. He didn't want
to upset Bahji with more talk of the fiasco that had happened with her
teas so he continued, "But I tend to turn into a wher when someone
insults my weyrmate."
She sighed softly. "I don't know what is wrong with her. She's never
really liked me, but then again, we've never really talked in depth. I
met her at the infirmary a long while ago and she just immediately
disliked me. I don't know why." She tightened her grip on his fingers
in a comforting squeeze. "She doesn't bother me, K'lvin. I just ignore
her."
K'lvin could not help but admire Bahji in that moment. She was the
strongest person he had ever met, and sometimes too nice for her own.
"I am glad that she does not bother you." Because she certainly
bothered him. Eirlira's behavior toward Bahji would stop, and K'lvin
vowed silently to see to that.
"You hungry?" He asked, giving her hand a returning squeeze as they walked.
She nodded, tucking her hand into his arm and then hugging him
lightly. "Yes. I am. What did you have planned?"
"I was thinking we could grab some food to take back to our weyr, or
if you prefer the liveliness of the cavern we can eat it in there."
K'lvin offered.
"I wouldn't mind some liveliness, actually. We've been holed up in our
weyr, you know." She flashed a grin. "You'll have to share me
eventually."
K'lvin barked out a laugh, his hand leaving hers to slide around her
waist instead and draw her up against his side, "Fine," he heaved out
an exaggerated sigh, "if you insist."
"I'm afraid I have to." She countered quickly and mock primly. "As
much as you might enjoy it, prancing around our weyr naked does get to
be a bit chilly and we do need to socialize. I can't be naked all the
time, K'lvin."
"Is it my fault that all of the best activities happen when you are
naked?" The warmth of the Dining Cavern washed over them, along with
the smell of food, as they stepped inside the cavern.
She couldn't help but blush, then cleared her throat. "You, sir, are
absolutely insatiable." Her face took on an innocent look. "And here I
thought age diminished that in men."
K'lvin leaned over so that his growling voice could only be heard in
her ear, "I will show you diminishing when we get back to our weyr."
It was a threat and a promise all in one.
She gave a slight "pft" nose and kept a grin on her face. "Keep on
talking, K'lvin." Her eyes sparkled with mischief as she stroked his
hair while he was bent. "I was told you're getting some silver in
here."
The man's lips twisted as he fought a smile, "Oh is that so? And who
has been feeding you such information?"
Bahji walked towards the food tables, fighting laughter. "A little
flit told me."
"A little flit huh?" K'lvin released Bahji when they arrived at the
food table so he could fix his plate. "We will set this straight
later."
"Mmmm." Bahji trailed her fingers over the table to find the plates.
"What is on the menu today?" The mingling smells were a bit hard to
filter out. "I think I smell fish."
K'lvin's eyes swept the table, "White fish, greens, a vegetable salad,
tubers skins and corn muffins." He answered as he began helping
himself to a bit of each. The bronzerider was not a small man by any
means and his plate was ladened with food by the time he was at the
end of the table.
"Oh good." She didn't take the liberal amounts K'lvin had. Instead,
she was able to dish up small portions of each, trailing her hand over
the table to keep a good idea of where she was. She fell into step
beside him and with care, tucked her free hand into his elbow. "Lead
away."
The Wingleader took a quick survey of the room, "Left." He said as he
led his weyrmate over to a table, "I've got your chair." He said,
sliding the chair back from the table.
"Thank you." She set her plate down and then slid into the chair.
K'lvin took the seat beside Bahji, their elbows brushing a bit,
"Eat up, woman. You will need plenty of strength." He wasn't going to
let this "old" and "gray" thing go.
One brow arched as she took a bite, and discretely slipped one hand
under the table to tickle over his thigh. "I have more energy than you."
"We shall see, my love, we shall see." His voice held the delicious
promise of what was to come later.
