Ride Baby Ride

Writers: AL, Chelle
Date Posted: 8th November 2014

Characters: Qorri, Caenir
Description: Qorri enlists the beastcrafter to find a runner.
Location: Green Valley Hold
Date: month 10, day 3 of Turn 7

As a widow, Qorri didn't have to worry about chaperones or any of that
nonsense. Not that she was exactly seeing any men she was interested in
around this hold yet. So, she decided to take some free time and find
another
hobby. Of course a nice stallion between her legs seemed like a substitute,
at
least for a little while. The headwoman went to see the stableman about a
ride.
"Caenir, do you have a mount I could try?"

Caenir straightened from where he'd been inspecting some gear and eyed
the Headwoman. He paused a moment, then flicked the brim of his hat
which knocked it back ever so slightly on his head. "I reckon I've got
a couple. What's your experience with runners?"

"I'm no expert but I rode quite a bit in my younger days when my husband
and I were travelling. We had a wagon in the later turns, though." Indeed,
it
had been awhile but Qorri was confident she could get the way of it once
she got back into a saddle.

"All right." So some experience, but not, as she said, an expert. It
was enough information that Caenir knew not to give her one of the more
spirited runners. With a nod of his head, he motioned further in the
back of the stables. "Follow me."

Eager for some activity, she did so and surveyed the man's domain again.
And then she surveyed the man himself. He was younger than her, for sure,
but nowhere near as young as the men she usually fancied. In a place like
this,
one couldn't be so choosy and it wasn't as if she had thought about leaving
either. A hall might have had more younger fellows around though. Sighing,
Qorri stopped when he did.

The tack room was well stocked and Caenir eyed a couple of saddles
before plucking one from its place, along with a bridle, blanket and
cinch belt. He eased out of the room then made his way out once more to
a fence. With an ease that belied long practice, Caenir executed a high
pitched whistle and a moment later a pretty, creamy yellow mare trotted
up. "This is Gella. She'll do you right." The mare tossed her head up
and down as if to agree with Caenir's statement. The Stablemaster
proceeded to climb over the fence then get her ready for Qorri to ride.
Once the cinch was the correct tightness and he'd eyed the height of the
stirrups, he led the runner to the gate and out it, shutting it behind
him. "I can help you up."

"That would be most helpful," she answered quickly, wanting to judge the
man's strength. Qorri was not like most females and she well knew it. She
was
solid as a rock in more ways than one.

Gella was a steady girl and didn't even hint at flinching as the two
humans approached her. Caenir got down upon his knee and laced his
hands together, then nodded to indicate he was ready for her to use him
as a stool to give her the lift she needed.

Qorri made short work of it and got herself on the mare. Adjusting her
weight in the saddle and putting her feet into the stirrups, she fixed her
skirts. She didn't ride sidesaddle like some lady would do. No, Qorri had
always done things astride.

"How does it feel?" At least her skirts were long enough to keep her
decent. Caenir stepped back and eyed the woman and her posture.
"Please go around a couple of times."

Grabbing the reins, she got her bearings. Using her knees to nudge the
runner forward, she got the desired effect. Gently riding her about, she
figured this would be easy enough to handle. Watching Caenir for any
cues, she kept the rest of herself focused on controlling the animal
beneath her.

While she rode, Caenir carefully scrutinized how the woman handled the
runner, particularly the gentleness of her touch. Once he was
satisfied, he inclined his head to her. "Looks good. Let me know if
you need anything else."

"Mmm should be back in a half candlemark. Thank you!" Waiting until he
was out of the way, she loosened her hold and let the mare go on out,
starting off at a trot. It felt good to be in control and going somewhere
even if it were only a ride around the property.
