Description: The eggs from Lord Zathris hatch.
Location: Green Valley Hold
Date: month 10, day 3 of Turn 7
Arippa sat near the fire with some embroidery she was doing on a small
garment for the baby's layette. The day was warming and a light rain
fell softly on the lands of Green Valley. Spring was on its way and
soon the leafless trees would begin to sprout and the Hold would earn
back it's name from the winter that had blanketed them.
Mystery sat atop a shelf looking down at her she turned her face up
and smiled when he began to hum. "Why are you humming,"she asked. "I'm
not having this baby yet." But then her eyes widened and she looked
down at the small pot on the hearth. She lifted the lid and sure
enough the eggs inside were rocking. "Get Reven," she sent a strong
urgent picture of her husband and the eggs at her little blue
firelizard.
Mystery disappeared with a pop and reappeared a moment later outside
the main hold building where the Holder was talking to his brother as
they surveyed a field.
Emotions and pictures were thrown at Reven ~~eggs hatching, mistress
excited.~~ was followed by a chirping blue swooping around in front of
Reven and another picture of the holder running and an urgency.
"Is it the baby?" Were the first words out of Coran's mouth as he
recognized Arippa's firelizard. The healer had finally gotten over the
broken ribs that had confined him to a bed for so long, and he was
just beginning to see all of his patients again, his sister-in-law
included.
Reven clapped a hand on his brother's shoulder, "Relax," he chuckled,
"its the firelizard eggs that were sent to us by Arippa's uncle.
They're hatching! I will catch up with you later!" He promised his
brother, who looked more relieved now that he knew it wasn't Arippa
who was in labor.
The Green Valley holder jogged inside the hold, ducking his head to
some ladies as he squeezed past them in the corridors on his way back
to Arippa's rooms. He burst through the doorway with a smile, "I
didn't miss anything did I?"
"No but they're rocking," she said breathlessly. Arippa had the dish
of tidbits with her and she'd managed to get herself on the floor next
to the small contained. "It could be anytime," she smiled up at him
and held out her hand.
Reven took his wife's hand and knelt down beside her in front of the
container of hot sand. The eggs inside jostled from the life that
stirred within them. "I hope having a baby is this easy." He gave
Arippa's hand a teasing squeeze.
"You and me both," she grinned. "Here," she added and moved the dish
of meat between them. "Just try to get their attention with the meat
and keep feeding them until they fall asleep.
The holder looked down at the meat and picked up a cut of it between
his thumb and forefinger, poised and ready for the moment when the
action started.... Which wasn't long as the crunchy sound of the shell
breaking split the air. The first head that peaked out was a coppery
bronze in color, and there was an unamused sqwuak of agitation from
the little creature as he fought to get clear from the confines of his
shell.
"Oh he's beautiful," her eyes glowed. "You feed him," she pushed at
Reven's arm. She'd thought about this in advance and with his
kidnapping and all the abuse he'd suffered she'd figured if there were
a bronze or brown it should be his. She already had Mystery and would
be content with whatever the other one was.
The other little egg vibrated and split with a loud crack revealing a
glistening green. Arippa picked a small piece of meat from the bowl
and offered it to the little thing. She snatched the piece of meat
from Arippa's fingers and gulped it down, instantly mewling for more.
Reven happily pushed meat into the little bronze firelizard's mouth,
especially since the creature continued to open his mouth for more.
"You are going to bust." The holder chuckled, scooping the bronze up
with one hand while still feeding with the other. "I have no idea what
I will call him."
Mystery continued to croon and peer at the little babies from Arippa's
shoulder. "I'm sure he'll give you a clue to his name," she smiled.
"They all have their own personalities." She'd coaxed the little green
onto her palm where she now curled up in her first food coma. "Little
sweetheart," she crooned and pulled her hand close to her chest.
"Isn't she pretty?"
Glancing sideways, Reven smiled at the darling creature curled up in
his wife's palm. "A jewel suitable for my wife." He agreed before
turning his eyes back down to his own firelizard, which was tucked
into the crook of his left arm. The creature's belly was swollen and
distended from being stuffed, and his tail hung limply over Reven's
arm.
Her eyes glowed at him then she said. "You're going to have to help me
up. How are we going to accomplish that?"
Reven glanced about and then winked at Arippa, "Like this." He
unbuttoned the top three buttons of his shirt and then carefully slid
the firelizard inside. The little bronze made a tiny growling noise
but otherwise seemed happy to curl up against the warm skin of Reven's
abdomen, cocooned as he was by the material of the shirt. With his
shirt tucked into his belt, and no fear of the firelizard falling,
Reven stood and then bent and carefully helped Arippa to her feet.
Once back on her feet she hugged him sideways to make sure her belly
didn't cause the little bronze any distress. Her tiny green hadn't
even budged and she chuckled. "She's so beautiful, and the color. It's
like a peridot. Maybe I should call her that." She looked up at Reven.
"What do you think? Peridot?"
"I think that suits her perfectly." He glanced inside his shirt at the
pudgy bronze, who was already emitting soft snores. "This fella,
however... I am not sure what he looks like."
The little bronze hide was brilliant in the rays of the sun that
filtered in through the windows. "My but he certainly does shine,"
Arippa grinned.
Reven smiled down at the firelizard, "He's a keeper for sure... Or at
least, he'll be the my keeper.... That's actually not a bad name. I'll
call him Keeper."
"I like it," she smiled. "Keeper and Peridot," she smiled up at her husband.
