Loella

"What in the blazes are you doing?" Coming up behind her, Karhal
snatched the basket of clothing out of Loella's hands. He had caught
her lugging the basket across the main square during one of his rounds
and hadn't wasted any time remedying the situation. He didn't care how
it might have looked, the Captain carrying his wife's basket of
laundry, but he would be damned if Loella put any strain on her body.

"Karhal!" Loella shook her head. "You can't do your job and my chores.
Laundry still has to be done."

"I'll call for a drudge. You don't need to be lifting anything heavy."
He looked over his shoulders, gestured with his chin, and one of the
younger guards nodded without a word, trotting towards the main hall.
"And don't argue." He eyed her. "I mean it this time."

Her eyes twinkled up at her husband as her sense of humor kicked in
and she preceded him into the house. "I am not an invalid Karhal," she
said and turned on him poking him in the chest. "So don't make me
one and I won't have to hurt you." Of course he was twice her size and
the statement was ridiculous but though she might be little, she was
fierce.

He looked down at the poking finger and then arched a brow, setting
down the basket. "Never said you were. But you're not going to be
lifting any thing." He grabbed the poking finger and lifted it to his
mouth to kiss her knuckle. "I'm not risking anything this time. I'll
ask the Headwoman to employ a drudge to help you."

She shook her "You don't have to do that. I'll be fine... unless you
plan on getting stabbed again."

"I'm doing it." He stated firmly and placed a hand on her abdomen, the
gesture possessive, but gentle. "Anything can happen to me. You know
that. I'm never exactly safe, Loella. But I want you taken care of."

She looked up at him seriously. "Nothing better happen to you. It took
us too long to get together. You watch your back and take Livie with
you. I have Rikka and she's completely trained now. She'll take care
of me." Then she sighed and nodded. "Oh alright, but I'm still cooking
your dinner."

That brought a chuckle. "That's because someone didn't let me know she
was interested." He bent to kiss her brow. "Livie is always with me.
But I know you and you'll put yourself in trouble and do too much. So,
you'll have a drudge to help." His lower lip pursed. "Good. I like the
cooking, even if it means I have to jog an extra candlemark."

"Why? I like my man a little stocky," she grinned up at him. "Makes me
look smaller as my belly swells."

"I think I'm big enough, thank you." The reply was dry even though her
grin brought a smile to play on his mouth. "And you'll always look
small in comparison to me. It makes it much easier to pick up and
handle you when you need it."

"When _I_ need it?" Her voice rose as did her eyebrows.

Karhal's brows raised just a little and his teeth flashed. "I really
have to remind you?"

Her eyes widened as she understood his meaning and her color rose. "Oh
Karhal," she shook her head. He was quite aware that only a kiss or a
touch and she was undone and would agree to his demands. "You are a
bad man," she chuckled.

He looked back behind him towards the square that he had just left
before he bent to whisper in her ear. "If I didn't have duties to
attend to, I'd show you how bad, Loella." He kissed her earlobe and
rose, then patted her bottom. "Be more careful. You'll have a drudge
to help you out as soon as possible."

She slapped at his shoulder still blushing and shaking her head.
"Alright but I'm pregnant Karhal, not sick."

"And it's my job to take care of you." He gently tucked his finger
under her chin. "So let me."

"Yes, yes," she dimpled at him. "But only because I love you."

He nodded in satisfaction. "When is the next healer appointment?"

"Next week," she smiled. "Chupsin is keeping a close eye on me just
like you asked." She had no doubt that he husband had made sure the
healer took special care with her this time.

He nodded in satisfaction. With the loss of their previous pregnancy,
he wanted to be extra careful. Perhaps he _was_ being a bit over
protective, but the first pregnancy had given him so much hope and the
loss had been shattering. He was not getting younger and some mornings
he felt it keenly. "Good. I'll go with you."

She just shook her head and walked up the steps to their front door.
"Don't be late for dinner," she shook her finger at him.

He inclined his head. "I'll try not to be."
