"Mom! We're back!" Kaibren's voice chimed in a sing-song tone. Even
though it was Saibra's day to have Kaibren from his foster mother,
K'yne had wanted to take the boy out fishing for the day, and Saibra
hadn't had the heart to disappoint Kaibren by saying no.
"Did you catch something?" Saibra asked with a smile for Kaibren as he
came bounding up to her and threw his arms around her waist.
"I caught three big fish! Uncle Ky didn't catch _anything_!" The
excitment over beating out his uncle was quite clear.
Saibra raised her eyes to K'yne, who was hanging back, a wry
expression on his handsome face, "He's telling the truth." The man
confirmed.
"You get your fishing skills from your mother." Saibra grinned, turing
her eyes back down to Kaibren who beamed up at her.
Saibra had been planning for the day when Onnyth would rise, leaving
Saibra and Chioneth free to go and enjoy a warm beach and the sun for
a while. In a small bag Saibra had packed her swimsuit and a towel
that she set out in Chioneth's weyrcouch so she could grab it quickly
and go when the time came. What she had not planned on were K'yne and
Kaibren being present when Chioneth finally spoke.
}:Onnyth glows and is ready to rise. We should leave.:{ Chioneth's
tone was urgent and pinched as the Senior Queen fought the urge to be
possessive over _her_ Weyr, and _her_ males.
K'yne's eyes locked with Saibra's as his own Arinoth made him aware of
the shift in Onnyth's mood. A zing of electricity seemed to pass
between K'yne and Saibra as they stood immobilized for a moment.
Saibra was the first to break eye contact as she looked down at
Kaibren, "I still have you for the rest of the evening. What about if
we went to the beach and played in the water for a while?"
Kaibren's eyes lit up, "Fishing and the beach all in one day?
Awesome!" The boy spun around, "Uncle Ky, can you come too?"
The brownrider opened his mouth to reply but Saibra cut him off, "Oh,
probably not, honey. I am sure Arinoth would like to participate in
Onnyth's flight." Saibra said this pointedly to K'yne, the veiled
meaning clear.
K'yne's jaw clenched for a moment, his dark eyes seering into Saibra's
before he replied to Kaibren, "Actually, Kaibren, I would love to come
along. Arinoth just won a green flight yesterday. He would love to
spend some time with Chioneth on the beach." Yes, winning Devyn's
flight had been a nice release to the frustration that K'yne had felt
since moving to Dragonsfall.
"K'yne..." She warned.
}:Oh hush. It would be nice to have some company on the beach,
obviously Nirreth will not be there so Arinoth will do. Now, shut up
and let's go.:{ Chioneth urged.
Saibra growled, "Fine!" She snatched up an extra towel for Kaibren and
then hooked her son beneath his arm. "Let's go!"
A smug smirk crossed K'yne's face as he followed Saibra and Kaibren
out to where Arinoth and Chioneth waited, their eyes whirling quickly.
K'yne watched with appreciation as Saibra made smooth, quick work of
scaling Chioneth's flank and settling herself and Kaibren into the
gold's riding straps.
This was working out better than he had hoped.

The sun was blazing when they came out of /between/ over Saibra's
favorite stretch of beach. The water was crystal clear and sparkling
beneath the sun, and the smell of ocean air was divine.
**Almost perfect... Except for him.** She cut her eyes sideways at the
brown dragon that was flying beside of Chioneth, and the man that flew
upon it. His posture was perfect, and the figure he cut riding astride
his dragon was impressive. **Damn him.**
Chioneth brought them to a soft landing with a minimal amount of sand
flying up around them. Kaibren gave a whoop and slid down Chioneth's
side, shedding his clothes in lightning quick time as he sped off at
breakneck speed toward the water. Saibra could only smile and shake
her head. A daredevil, just like K'fel had been.
Saibra slid down Chioneth's side as well so that her gold acted as a
shield between her and K'yne as she changed into her swimsuit.
Normally not one for modesty, Saibra only covered up because of
Kaibren's presence, and because she didn't like the thought of K'yne
looking at her so exposed. The man was hard enough to resist as it
was.
When the Weyrwoman walked around her dragon, her mouth went dry and
her heart skipped a beat. There was K'yne, bare from head to toe,
showcasing his perfect musculature and the occasional scar that
crisscrossed over his skin here and there. **Couldn't the idiot keep
his clothes on?** She thought darkly, shaking her head to clear her
thoughts.
K'yne, to his credit, seemed just as confident and comfortable as if
he'd been fully clothed.
"Kaibren really likes the water." He commented, his dark eyes watching
his nephew crash through the waves.
Saibra looked out at her son, "Yes, he does. I do hate that it is so
cold at Dragonsfall. He can swim in the Winter Lake, but its not the
same as being in the open ocean."
K'yne turned his head and regarded her for a moment, "That's the first
thing you've said to me that wasn't dripping with scorn."
She rolled her eyes, "And then you had to go and ruin it."
K'yne smirked, "There, that's better. See? We can get along. We use to
be friends even, if you remember."
**How could I forget?** Saibra thought. She could easily remember the
days before K'fel's death. K'yne had been a constant presence in their
weyr, even then he had been a doting uncle for Saidrene and Kaibren.
But then K'fel had died and everything had changed....
