****Flashback.****
It was over, the horrible ceremony was over. K'fel's body had been
collected, cleaned, wrapped, and then taken /between/ by the
Weyrleader. It was exactly what K'fel would have wanted. Dark blue
eyes studied the different colored grains of wood on the cup that
Saibra held loosely. Kaibren and Saidrene were with their
fostermother, but Saibra was too far into her wine to feel guilt over
that.
She just needed to be alone.
}:Arinoth's wishes to see you.:{ Chioneth broke gently into her
rider's thoughts. The gold was worried about her rider, who had never
been one to imbibe much.
**No. I want to be alone.** Saibra did not want to see K'yne, who had
K'fel's eyes and mannerisms. It was too harsh a reminder that she
would never wake up to her weyrmate's beautiful face and warm arms
ever again.
Despite her wishes, Saibra heard the sound of boot heels in Chioneth's
stone weyrcouch, and then K'yne emerged through the entryway, looking
tall and formidable as usual. "I said I wanted to be alone." She
murmured, unable to force the authority and strength into it that she
had wanted.
K'yne stood for a moment without speaking, and then he calmly walked
over and plucked Saibra's cup from her hand. "I think you've had
enough."
"I don't care what you think." She replied automatically, although
there was no fire behind it.
"I know." K'yne replied dryly as he corked the nearly empty bottle of
wine and set it aside.
"Why are you here?" Saibra blinked up at K'yne.
"K'fel was my brother, my best friend, he would have wanted me to make
sure that you are okay."
Saibra shoved herself up from her chair, took a few wavering steps,
and then collapsed onto the couch in front of the fireplace. "I'm
fine." Despite what she said, Saibra felt K'yne's weight settle
beside of her on the couch. She waited for the man to speak but no
words came, instead he just sat there. Staring into the fire some of
the numbing effects of the wine began to fade, and the shock that had
kept her sane over the past two days was also beginning to ease. Left
in its place was the horrible, ugly truth.
"K'yne." She managed to choke out the man's name before burying her
face in his shoulder.
The brownrider wrapped his arms around her, enveloping her in a
strong, warm embrace that felt safe. As she sobbed she could feel his
hand tracing soothing circles on her back and occassionally smoothing
her inky black hair away from her face. When the tears finally
subsided she rested her face against his chest, slowly inhaling his
warm, masculine scent.
Tilting her head back to look up at him, Saibra was surprised by the
emotion that she saw in the man's dark, nearly onyx eyes. And then his
lips were on hers, sending a fiery jolt of desire straight through
her. It felt so good to feel some emotion besides blank, empty
despair. K'yne was warm, real, and alive.
With ease K'yne lifted Saibra so that she was straddling him, his
hands running down her back to grasp her hips. Saibra didn't want to
think about anything, not about what she was doing, not about the
implications or problems, or guilt that she would feel later. All she
wanted in that moment was to _feel_, and K'yne felt good.
Grasping the hem of Saibra's tunic, K'yne pulled it over her head in
one sweep, a practice move he obviously had experience making. His
hands were everywhere, tracing the ladder of her ribcage, cupping the
fullness of her breasts, and then rounding over her shoulders and
slipping down the smooth curve of her back. Her hips ground down into
his as his tongue caressed hers.
In no time at all Saibra was reduced to a quivering, puddle of need,
and only K'yne could give her release.
~*Fade*~
Pulling free from Saibra, K'yne stretched out onto his back on the
rug, and drew her down against him, his arms enveloping her once
again. Shards, but sex had never been like that before, so raw and
passionate. Even as K'yne lay thinking about how right everything had
felt, Saibra lay paralyzed with guilt and shame. Her weyrmate had been
dead less than three days and already she had opened her legs to
another man.... To his _brother_ no less.
K'yne could feel the change in Saibra's body as it went from warm, and
languid, to taut and stiff. The tension was palpable. "Saibra?"
"How could you?" The words were a soft accusation and like a bucket of
cold water to K'yne's senses.
"I... What?" He frowned as she pulled away from him and sat up, her
movements jerky and disjointed as she yanked her shirt back over her
head and pulled her discarded pants from earlier back on.
Sitting up, K'yne made quick work of buttoning his pants and securing
his belt before pulling his shirt on. "How could you come over and
seduce your brother's weyrmate while she's still grieving? I was weak
and you knew it!"
K'yne could not help his shocked reaction as his jaw dropped open,
"That's not what happened at all! I never thought when I came here....
I never set out to...."
With a trembling bottom lip and with eyes full of tears, Saibra looked
up at K'yne, "I was weak and vulnerable and you took advantage!"
"Hey now, it takes two, and I definitely didn't force you to do
anything! From the way you sounded you were quite enjoying yourself!"
K'yne shot back, wounded at the accusation. He cared about her,
shards, he loved her and wanted to take care of her, couldn't she see
that?
The sound of flesh striking flesh echoed in the weyr as the palm of
Saibra's hand collided with the side of K'yne's face. "How dare you!
Get out of my weyr! I hate you!"
The words were like a dagger to the heart.
"You don't mean that." He said softly, the words nearly a plea.
"I do." She snarled.
K'yne's eyes frosted over, "My apologies, goldrider." Turning on his
heel the tall bronzerider strode out of the weyr without looking back.
****End Flashback****
The events of what had happened were as clear as if they had happened
yesterday. Everything had been different between them since then. Not
long after that night Saibra had began taking nearly any man she could
find to her bed in a long string of erotic nights meant to help her
forget everything about who she was and what she had done.
"Some things can't be fixed, K'yne." She warned, her tone cool as she
watched Kaibren play in the water.
K'yne didn't have to ask, he knew exactly what she was referring to,
after all, he had relived that night with Saibra a thousand times in
his memory and in his dreams. "That doesn't mean I won't try." There
was a warning in his voice as well, and then he strode down the beach
to join his nephew in the water.
Saibra was left on the shoreline, her outward appearance hiding the
inner turmoil that was raging inside her.
