Reven

Reven normally let Arippa take care of things when it came to seeing
that rooms were ready for guests, and she worked with the Headwoman to
oversee that proper refreshments were available and such. But with
Arippa's pregnancy, Reven was doing as much as he could to help
lighten her load. Letter in hand, the holder went down to the
Headwoman's office and knocked.

Like most late mornings, Qorri had just come in from finishing the aftermath
of breakfast. She still smelled like food and relished the time to ready herself
for the other tasks of the day. Hearing the knock, she didn't sit, wondering who
it might be. "Aye?

Opening the door, Reven inclined his head to the woman as he entered,
"Good morning, Qorri, do you have a moment?"

Surprised to see the holder there, Qorri stopped pouring the glass of
water she had managed for herself. "Oh...yes of course." Drinking it
down quickly, she faced him and wondered what he might be needing. So
far, she hadn't had very many dealings with Reven and she didn't feel
at all like she knew the man or what to expect.

"Normally Arippa would take care of this but she has a lot on her
plate lately with the pregnancy," Reven said in explanation of why he
was the one coming to Qorri. "Lord Corowal is going to be visiting at
the end of the sevenday. I was hoping you would oversee preparations
for his arrival." Green Valley was a large Minor Hold, if not the
largest in the territory, and Reven wanted to make sure that the Lord
Holder saw the hard work that had been going on to update and renovate
the Hold since Reven had taken over.

She had met the Lord Holder before at Hatchings and the like and immediately
wondered a few things. "How many is he bringing with him?" This would be an
excuse to dress up the hold as well as pull out the better flatware.
It was almost like a mini hatching without the eggs.

"A small party, I believe. Lady Felyna is staying behind at Emerald
Falls." Reven had invited Lord Corowal down for some hunting down in
the woods south of the main keep, and it wasn't unusual for the Lord
to stop in every so often to see how Green Valley was doing.

Qorri would plan for five people then. Surely the Lord Holder would
travel with a few men for security and perhaps a harper to take notes.
Nodding, she started to count mentally. "How long will he be here?"

"Two nights, he'll be leaving on the third morning." Reven actually
looked forward to a little hunting time himself. He had not been in
the mood to venture out much since his return to Green Valley.

"Very well, would you like any sort of special entertainment planned?"
If all she had to do was manage food and lodging, that was easy enough.
She had plenty of stores thanks to her lovely kitchen garden and the slaughter
of the lambs recently.

Reven reached up and scratched the stubble on his chin as he
contemplated that, "Do you have any suggestions?" Now this was why the
women folk usually planned these kinds of things, because if it wasn't
about planting or farming then Reven didn't have a clue.

"Music would be easy. Since it will be just men, there's no point in
dancing. Or perhaps a short play..." The harper would know if they
could organize something like that in so short a time. "Or if you would
rather just play a game of dragonpoker or dragonchess or whatever else..."

"I like the sound of a play, perhaps on that first night, and then
let's arrange a dragonpoker tournament for the second night." Reven
determined that both would be a pleasant change for the people at
Green Valley, who so rarely got to showcase their talents for the Lord
Holder.

"Allright, that I can do. Won't be a large cast by any means since
it's short notice but I'll speak to the harpers to manage. They'll
likely jump at the chance." Qorri scribbled a few things on the hide
on her desk, thinking it over in her hand. The timing would be the
most challenging thing.

Reven inclined his head to Qorri, thankful to have such an experienced
and knowledgeable Headwoman at Green Valley, "You have my gratitude,
Qorri. I am sure that Lord Corowal will be most pleased with his stay here."

For her, she was grateful to have the chance to exercise her talents. This day
in and day out humdrum was getting to her in little ways. And the lack of young
men was also a strain on Qorri's happiness. That was the part of Weyrlife she
missed the most. "Oh aye, I'm sure he will. Holder Reven, you might figure out
what you want to hunt, though. That way if you catch it, I will have the kitchen
ready to cook it."

"Probably wild wherry, and if we are lucky perhaps a wild porcine or
two." Reven really looked forward to the prospect of getting some
fresh meat on the table.

"Fowl and pork.." She'd need some rubs and vegetables. **Wonder what I have
ready in the garden?** She'd have to go down there and look. "That
would be dandy."

Reven smiled, pleased that they had put together what sounded like a
nice schedule for Corowal's stay, "Excellent. Thank you very much,
Qorri." He took a step back toward the door. "I'll leave you to the
rest of your evening then."

"Good eve, Holder. Bid the Lady good rest for me." She had things to do
for once and Qorri wasn't about to sleep until she had gotten started on at
least some of it.
