Gautrek

Gautrek

Upon hearing there was a lady here to see him, Gautrek hastened to the
Main Hall. There was a small sitting room off the tasting room and he
was quite pleased when he saw who his visitor was and that a drudge
was coming in with refreshments. "Good afternoon, Lady Rethisa, I am
so happy you came. It's very good to see you again."

Rethisa smiled as she extended a gloved hand to Gautrek, "It is good
to see you again as well." The weather was still quite cold outside
and so she was wearing a thickly knit riding habit, with wool
stockings that disappeared into her knee high riding boots. The cloak
about her shoulders was a dark blue that made her platinum hair seem
even more in vibrant, and her cheeks were flushed red from the ride.

To say that the Lord Holder's sister was alluring with her brilliant
green eyes and rosy cheeks framed by her lovely white-blond hair was
an understatement. She was tall and lithe, well suited to the riding
habit she wore and Gautrek had to remind himself firmly of her
position as he took her gloved hand in his and gave it a firm squeeze
before motioning for her toward the cushioned chairs beside a small
fireplace. "May I take your cloak so that you can have a seat?"

"Yes, thank you." Rethisa said as she reached up and tugged the ribbon
at the base of her neck which loosened the cloak. Free of the garment
the blonde smoothed her hand over the back of her riding habit as she
took one of the offered chairs near the fireplace. It was the perfect
day to be by a fire and Rethisa was grateful for it. "I promised I
would come and see you to discuss our wine tasting extravaganza." She
flashed him a smile.

"And I am so glad that you did," he said returning her smile as
he handed her cloak to an attending drudge. "I've spoken to the
Hallmaster and he agrees that would be the perfect venue to introduce
some of our newly released vintages. May I offer you tea or klah?" He
asked motioning towards the tray brought in by the drudge.

"Tea sounds wonderful." Rethisa said, her green eyes brightening. Klah
was something that was plentiful and always around but not everyone
was a tea drinker as she herself was.

With a smile, Gautrek lifted the lid to the pot to make sure that the
tea had steeped acceptably before pouring two cups? "Sweetner or
cream?" he asked. His mother had always had tea and though he enjoyed
klah in the morning or when he was working he relished a cup of tea
other times during the day.

Rethisa pointed toward the smaller of the two containers, "A bit of
sweetner please." She'd always had a bit of a sweet tooth and enjoyed
her tea that way as well. She glanced around the room while her tea
was made to her liking and then she thanked Gautrek again as she took
the cup and lifted it to her lips. "Perfect."

Taking his cup, the vintner sat down. "So, what is the news from the
Hold? Were you able to convince others of the merit of our lovely
plan?"

"Yes," the woman's dazzling smile broke out again. "I knew Zathris
wouldn't mind any way. I can work on getting the invitations properly
addressed and sent out if you want to speak to the Headwoman about
refreshments and furniture."

"I will indeed. We will have a few handbills made to offer descriptions
of the wines being released, though we'll have plenty of Vintners to
provide verbal input as well," Gautrek's blue-gray eyes shone with
intensity as his excitement for the event mounted. "I can speak with
Tevarn, he conducts my nephew's Harper lessons, to find out which
Harpers might be on hand. I was thinking late spring, allow the
weather to warm but not so late as to clash with Turnover
preparations. What do you think?"

Rethisa contemplated that. They certainly didn't want to get too close
to Turnover with this little garden party or they would be competing
for guests. "The weather should begin an upward climb next month if
you want to plan it for then. The Amber Hills people are so hardy and
use to the cold that any raise in the temperature feels warm to us."

Gautrek chuckled heartily before taking a sip of tea. "True enough.
I've been away from the Hall for a time and the seahold's tend to have
much warmer weather. I think later next month would be perfect.
Hopefully the garden will be showing some blooms by then. What do you
think, the last or second to last sevenday?

"Let's do the last sevenday. That will give me a chance to get an
appropriate outfit put together for this event." She grinned a little
at that. Even though her sister-in-law, Benani, had been quite active
in helping her acquire a new wardrobe and things that she needed,
there was still some lacking pieces in her wardrobe, such as dresses
for parties.

"Perfect! I might have to commission new clothes as well," the vintner
said appreciating Rethisa's smile. "I think this will be a marvelous
way to celebrate the coming of spring, and if it goes well, might even
bear repeating. We might just be starting a new tradition, My Lady."

Rethisa lifted her cup of tea in toast, "Let's hope so. Amber Hills
could use some excitement here and there." And after Turns of hard,
manual labor, having something nice and good in life to savor was
refreshing.

Gently touching his cup to hers, Gautrek offered a nod of agreement,
"Indeed." He wanted to ask more about the Lady, as he found her
utterly pleasant to talk to, but he didn't want to be forward either.
"You must find Amber Hills quite different from Jade Harbor," he
finally commented.

"Yes, even though one is run by my father and the other by my brother,
they ave vastly different." Rethisa sipped some of her tea. She'd not
told anyone where she was truly from, but simply settled on Jade
Harbor since it was _close_ to the truth. "And then of course, the
weather is also very different. The salt air and the sun were very
nice." She admitted about Jade Harbor.

"Yes, I was stationed at more than one sea hold during my journeys and
they definitely hold great appeal. Some can be _overly_ hot, though.
I do like the mountains, particularly in the spring and summer."

"Amber Hills is a wonderful location since it gets to see snow in the
winter, but then have a warm sunny summer. At Jade Harbor a cool day
or snow was _never_ an option." Rethisa thought of Verlow's cothold,
which had been beholden to Jade Harbor but much further South where it
got much cooler in the winter time.

"I enjoy the change of seasons. I've journeyed around much of the
Southern Continent and most places have something commendable, but I
will admit to feeling a certain contentment coming back to the Hall.
Of course when I was younger, it was at Amethyst Cliff, but the
countryside and climate are much the same."

Rethisa finished off her cup of tea and returned it to the tray, "It's
been Turns since I've been at the Hall. Will you give me a tour?" She
asked, curious to see how things had changed.

"It would be my pleasure," Gautrek replied, setting his cup down and
coming to his feet to offer Rethisa his arm.
