It was a cold, but stormy day. The wind lashed rain across the weyrbowl, as
thunder and lightening crashed and flashed in turn. And that was the day
Onnyth picked to rise. One that most sane people would probably choose to
spend indoors with friends and loved ones seeing as it was in fact, a rest
day.

The gold gave a bellow that could only be interpreted in one way, but timed
as it was, some may not have heard it the first time, so she repeated
herself, even as her rider stressed to only blood the herdbeasts she would
surely take down in mere moments.

**Blood only, you need to fly long and well, _just_ the blood,** Teseada
repeated, even as she threw on old clothing she used for bathing the gold on
and made her way to the flight rooms, no sense in wasting something good,
she'd need that for the hatching.

Haloth didn't waste a second but replied with his own challenge to the
other males. She was his mate and he intended to fly her again.
Dropping into the pen he grabbed and blooded his own kill whiled his
eyes whirled.

N'call trotted down the steps from his Weyr to the flight rooms
finding himself the first to arrive he stopped and took a big breath.
He knew what this could mean if Haloth won her again. He didn't quite
know why he was a little conflicted about it but now was not the time
to feel any uncertainty.

}:Onnyth rises. I will chase,:{ Rogueth informed his rider.

K'ran surrendered to the inevitability. **Blood first, you'll need the
energy.** With a smaller bronze, it was true.

Rogueth flapped to the pens and struck down a wherry, sucking the blood as
the mating lust hit him. Unlike his rider, he had no doubts about his
chances.

The bronzerider walked unhurriedly to the flight rooms, nodding
politely at Teseada and N'call.
Not exactly one to show his face at most goldflights, all bets were
off when it was a junior gold. So P'nal walked into the room and
nodded to everyone else. The brownrider knew that Jodeth couldn't pass
up the opportunity. Of course he had known Teseada's father for a long
time so that wasn't ideal but life in a Weyr was what it was.

Nirreth declared his intentions loudly, answering to her challenge.
** Seriously? Every gold, every time?** G'nir crumbled. He had been in
his office, trying to get some hidework done.
** Are you going to Chase Lissath too?**

}:Naturally,:{ Nirreth replied and was heading off to the Feeding Grounds.
G'nir tossed away his pen and got up, heading towards the same place
too. There were times when you just have to comply to your dragon's
wishes and for bronze, gold flights were a must.

P'nal wasn't the only brown rider to make an appearance. As Aznith
made his way to the feeding grounds, declaring his intent to chase the
gold, Ma'din appeared in the flight rooms. His lips curled up at
Teseada and he gave a bow, one brow arched.

**Blood only,** Teseada told Onnyth, who was engaged in pulling yet another
unfortunate herdbeast to its demise. The gold drank her fill, before
bellowing loudly across the feeding grounds, scattering any remaining
animals to the far end of the pens.

She was a magnificent and terrible thing. Onnyth was capable of such
destruction and yet, the golden queen was also going to give life.
Jodeth knew that this would be a long Flight, junior or no. He also
knew that she was a Dragonsfall queen which meant she was hardy and
strong. The brown would struggle, but perhaps he just might be
victorious over the bronzes. He had been so before, after all.

Nirreth landed and crouched down to watch her. His rider was left to made
it there on his own.

The gold decided it was time. Time to shoot into the air, through the rain
clouds and out over towards the Sea of Azov.

}:Make me want you,:{ she teased. }:I have to desire you.:{

Haloth sprang into the air behind her bugling his desire and turning
slightly angled so his wings were perpendicular to her line of flight.
}:See me,:{ he pleaded }:I will give you more beautiful eggs lovely
Onnyth.:{ light glinted off his burnished bronze hide.

Nirreth sprang after her without hesitation. }:I'm the strongest
bronze in this Weyr, choose me! :{ he called to her. He was indeed a
bronze in his prime, hide shoning like polished metal. He wasn't the
largest bronze but neither was he smallest.

Seeing her flying, Jodeth headed off after her. He heard the bronze
and steered clear of him. She was headed for the water. He could smell
it through the clouds. Using his wings to keep steady, his tail pushed
him to the right. She had chosen a young brown once. He was not young,
but he was still quite healthy.

Rogueth leapt into the sky as well, leaving the drained beast corpse
behind. He was smaller than the other bronzes but he was wily and
acrobatic. He concentrated on gaining enough height to not fall into
the pack of bronzes and browns, because if he got fouled up in them
he'd never succeed.

}:Choose me, Onnyth. I can fly circles around the other males!:{

He was one of the few browns who was attempting to fly the queen, but
Aznith was confident in his abilities. }: I am smaller, but I am
strong and steady and will give you a fine clutch. Choose me, and we
will fly long and far:{

Onnyth's only response was to beat her wings and guide herself into a
thermal, rapidly gaining height.

}:Where are you Onnyth:{ Jodeth asked himself before he saw her shooting
upwards. She was getting ready for the fall then. He could move faster than
her though since she was a bit larger. And so, he threw himself onto the
wind,
beating his wings hurriedly to follow her through the clouds.

Haloth too caught the thermal soaring into the clouds after the
disappearing gold. Then he caught a glimpse of her and twisted his
flight to follow her.

Rogueth was above the bulk of the chasing pack when he saw Onnyth
start to rise higher. He sped towards her, hoping that the others
hadn't spotted her. But when he approached, there were a few others in
his way. He darted right, hoping to get her by surprise, knowing if
he didn't catch her now he'd have to give up.

Onnyth though had made her mind up. Despite the choice before her, one stood
out. One who had given her his best before, and almost certainly would
again.

}:Haloth!:{ she called, even as the gold flung herself into the path of the
bronze. }:Please me again.:{

Nirreth was disappointed that he wasn't chosen. Not that he could do
anything about it. He turned to return home. G'nir meanwhile detached
himself from his dragon and went to pick up a flight month.

Growling to himself about the loss, but not overly surprised, Ma'din
stalked out of the room and straight into the arms of a willing moth.

Haloth claimed his prize with a roar of satisfaction and twined necks
with the most beautiful gold on Pern. Together they fell from the
heights of the sky above the Sea of Azov.

N'call swept Teseada off her feet and carried her into the nearest
room to claim her as his lifemate claimed hers.
