Yriadha

Bryvin sat at the small desk in his room. He relaxed with a glass of
wine and a snack. He'd written a note to Taril to let him know that
he'd received confirmation of the delivery of the shipment of goods
the trader had requested.

It even excited him in a perverse way that the mother of said shipment
was about to come across his threshold for some comfort. Yriadha was
a complex woman and had she been younger an excellent match for him
both in temperament and appetite. Sadly, she was too old to give him
an heir and therefore not a fit consort, but that didn't mean he
couldn't enjoy her in other ways. A smile curved his lips.

There was a light, discrete rap on his door before Yriadha slipped in.
Her face remained strained with worry, but it eased when she saw
Bryvin. She was of course, never less than perfectly presentable,
without a hair out of place in her braid. Her eyes turned to Bryvin
and the stiffness of her posture eased, if only a little.

He opened his arms in wordless invitation. His eyes gentle and caring.
"I'm so sorry for your loss," he said.

She shook her head quickly. "He's not a loss." A sharp, shaking breath
was next, even as she stepped into his arms. "We might still find him.
He could be hurt or..." Her voice trailed off and she closed her eyes
as she rested against him.

"You're right," he said softly into her hair. His hands ran over her
back. Mentally he kicked himself for the comment. "I've sent for a
couple of trackers that are well regarded in finding lost things. I'm
assured they're the best."

She closed her eyes as he stroked her back. "Thank you. I don't know
how I am going to sleep until I know what has happened to him."

"We'll find him," Bryvin said and began to undress her slowly. "In the
meantime, I'll help you sleep."

There was a murmur of assent as Bryvin took the lead and Yriadha
allowed herself to be the one cossetted and pleasured.

He slowly undressed her and then eased her naked into his bed. Then he
made certain his doors were locked before he dropped his own robe and
slid in beside her. He was gentle and tender and gave her the ultimate
pleasure more than once before he found his own release. He held her
gently until he felt her doze in his arms.

His mind whirled with his own part in her distress. But down deep he
didn't really care. What he'd done was for the greater good for the
Hold. At least that was the way he justified it in his own mind. She
couldn't see her son for the monster and danger he'd become. Warnings
hadn't been enough and so he'd paid the price.

Bryvin decided to talk to Eirock the next day and settle a generous
allowance on the widow and perhaps give the control of the funds to
Yriadha. He knew she'd skim some of it for her own pocket but that was
the point really. **Yes,** he thought. That would do nicely and his
conscience (what there was of it) would be guilt free.
