Description: Eirock checks in with Sophque during the Hurricane
Location: Sunstone Seahold
Date: month 11, day 21 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Telemon
Once Master Telemon had treated his shoulder and Eirock unwillingly
donned the sling to limit mobility, the Steward sought out Sophque to
make certain she and her family were alright. Talon rested
contentedly on his left shoulder, pleased to have the man safely out
of the storm. He trilled when he saw Sophque, the seamstress being
one of the few people the firelizard liked, probably because of her
lovely singing voice.
Sophque was serving drinks to an elderly couple when she heard the
warble of the firelizard. She turned with a smile. "Well hello there,"
she said to the little bronze as her eyes took in the sling. "Oh you
_were_ hurt." She felt a bit guilty and shook her head. "I'm so
sorry."
"It's little more than a bruise. I'm only wearing this to humor
Master Telemon," Eirock insisted then with eyes twinkling he repeated
his statement from earlier, "I'm _fine_." After the numbweed, he
honestly did feel much better. He looked about, "Did your little one
get her cookie? I brought a couple just in case," he said pulling two
from where he'd stashed them in his sling.
She still wasn't quite sure and felt awful about his injury. But when
he pulled out the cookies her mouth dropped open. "Where did you get
these? They were all gone when we looked." She shook her head. "Poor
baby finally fell asleep. She's with my mother."
She took a step forward but stopped herself before she actually hugged
him. "I'll make sure she gets them. Thank you," she said and tucked
them into her pocket.
He grinned at her reaction, "Well, the job does have _some_ perks you
know. She faced that storm like a trooper, she deserves her treat.
Your mother settled in okay?" He wasn't sure why the woman had refused
to seek out the shelter of the Hold, but Quellen seemed to have her
well in hand and she had seemed fine once they'd arrived.
"Yes,"Sophque smiled. "She was fine once we got here." Then she felt
he deserved more than that as an explanation. "She had a rather
traumatic experience a few turns ago. We usually get her to the hold
before the storm."
Understanding dawned in his green eyes as he nodded. "I know more
than one individual that's suffered a harrowing experience at sea and
won't step foot on a ship again. I'm glad she's okay now. It seems
you've been busy helping to put others at ease," he said with a note
of admiration as he nodded to the elderly couple. Sophque seemed to
have an innate ability to share her warmth and serenity to calm others
which was extremely useful in times such as these.
She shrugged at the praise, "It's what I do," she smiled. "Are you
hungry? I've been making sandwiches and could bring you one if you'd
like."
"That would be wonderful, but I do hate to eat alone," he said looking
as forlorn as he could in hopes of coercing her into joining him.
"Perhaps you could sit a spell with me?"
"Oh, of course," she smiled. "Let me get you some food," she headed
off and returned in only a few minutes with a tray. There were
sandwiches for both of them and some fresh klah. "How's this?"
"Perfect, you must have read my mind because that klah is just what I
was needing," he said with a grin. Talon gave an inquisitive chirrup,
cocking his head sideways and looking at the tray. "I'll share so
long as you behave," Eirock informed the bronze.
One thing that Sophque had missed over the last months was Morin's
little bronze Copper. She kept thinking she saw his little eyes
whirling in the rafters but he wasn't there when she looked. It was
just her imagination, he wouldn't be coming for her, not anymore. Her
hand dived into a pocket and pulled out a small meat roll. "May I,"
she asked Eirock and gestured to the little flit on his shoulder.
Though hesitant at first, Eirock was curious to see if Talon would eat
from her hand. The little bronze was not particularly friendly with
others than himself, but had definitely shown favor for Sophque.
"Sure," he said, urging his fire lizard down onto his left arm and
pinning him with a stern glare. "Behave, or you might find yourself
on a spit in the kitchens," he warned supporting his words with a
mental order, though his gruffness was just a show as he was quite
attached to his bronze companion.
Talon flapped his wings with a sound remarkably like an indignant
huff. Folding them neatly at his sides he craned his neck towards
Sophque with a friendly chirp, eyes whirring blue-green.
She smiled and opened her hand with the treat in the middle of her
palm like she had for Copper. "Here you go handsome," she smiled.
Almost as daintily as a queen, Talon neatly claimed the treat from her
hand with an appreciative warble.
"Well, I'll be. That is certainly a first. He's usually so finicky about his
interactions with other people," Eirock said in surprise. "He must sense
something special." He looked down into her light brown eyes his
thoughts straying to the time in his rooms when she'd taken his
measurements.
She smiled up into his eyes. Did he really think that or was he simply
being flirting. She felt a little flutter in her heart but firmly
squelched the feeling that rose up behind her eyes. His station was
too high he couldn't possibly want her for anything more than a
dalliance. Where Morin had needed her to help him sleep and it had
turned into something more. She found herself not wanting to walk that
road again.
Even so, she felt the magnetic pull and couldn't help it when the
light in her eyes rekindled. She blushed. "Not me."
And there was that blush. He liked to see her cheeks flush and know
that he was responsible. Honestly there were many things he found
alluring about Sophque. For instance the way her smile lit up her
entire face or the way her eyes turned gold in the right light. Not
to mention the swell of her ample breasts which promised...Eirock cut
that thought off immediately. Now was not the time nor the place.
Besides it wasn't even her physical appearance that was the most
appealing but rather how she seemed to radiate calm, kindness, and
comfort. Since his father died, Eirock had been striving and
struggling, first against his uncle, then his stepfather, and then for
position. She possessed something he didn't have and this piqued his
interest.
His deep voice was rather husky when he answered, "Yes you," before he
reached for a sandwich, deliberately trailing his fingers over her
hand as he did so. He tended to pursue those things that caught his
interest.
She didn't snatch her hand away but it trembled slightly at his touch
and her eyes dropped to where his finger trailed fire across her skin.
She moved them to her own sandwich and picked it up for a bit. The
thumping of her heart was probably audible by now. She hadn't felt
this way in ages and she didn't quite know what to do with it. She
hoped she knew what the husky tone in his voice meant. But did she?
Did she dare to hope that he might want more than just conquest?
"Thank you," she said softly.
"The truth requires no thanks," he said before taking a bite of his
sandwich, feeling the need of a distraction. He was unsure why
Sophque stirred him so, but she did and he would need to decide
exactly what he wanted to do about that. Or perhaps rather how he
wanted to go about it. Seeing her with her family today reminded him
that she had a reputation to uphold and responsibilities. The
situation would require some thought.
