}:The new bronze is here. Should I ask his rider to see you?:{ Rogueth
said to his rider, interrupting the paperwork K'ran had been immersed in.
**Please,** the rider sent back.
He cleared the hides off his desk while he waited for the new rider to
report to his office. When the knock came, he called, "Come in."
They had barely settled from their maiden flight around the Weyr when
Taldeth informed them they were to report to Wingleader K'ran.
He didn't hesitate for a moment. Entering the room, he gave a nod
respect to the other man and stated, "T'nom, rider of bronze Taldeth,
reporting for duty, sir."
K'ran stayed seated but acknowledged the sign. "Come on in, take a seat.
and welcome to Dragonsfall. How's Taldeth enjoying the climate shift?"
T'nom relaxed the more formal stance he had been holding as he slid
into the seat.
"He misses the warmth of the sun, but he also says its refreshing from
the intense heat of Dolphin Cove," T'nom replied. He himself was glad
to have his riding leathers on. It would take _him_ a while to adjust
to the change in temperature.
"They don't seem to notice it nearly as much as we do," K'ran agreed. "I'm
looking froward to having you in Cyan."
"Thank you K'ran. I am honored to be joining your wing. As for the
climate, I'm sure I'll adjust sooner or later. Until then I always
have my leathers and furs to warm my bed." T'nom paused as the thought
of something _else_ warming his bed crossed his mind.
"The Headwoman should be able to provide you with some extras if you need
them. As for Wing drills, I tend to vary up the time of those." Something
that tended to annoy some people.
K'ran took a moment to check the hide he'd pinned to the board. "This
sevenday we're doing drills after lunch. But I'll give you a secret
heads-up, bronzerider to bronzerider," he said with a wink. "Cyan hasn't
had a night drill in awhile, so I'm planning on springing it in the next
month."
T'nom shrugged a bit at that news. "That actually works for me. Give
me more flexibility to go back and visit my son at Dolphin Cove."
Having different times for drills meant he'd be able to visit Kazom at
different times of the day rather than always the same time.
"Anything else I should know before my first drills with the wing?"
"I'm glad it works out for you," K'ran said sincerely. He liked the
idea the other rider wanted to be a family man. "Don't be surprised if
the first sevenday is shaky. We've just added the graduating
weyrlings, so there will be a breaking in period. As for the regular
duties, would you prefer to sweepride or stand watches?"
"I actually don't mind either," T'nom replied. He was used to being
lower in the order of riders in his wing so choice was not often his
to make. "I don't know the territory all that well yet, so sweepriding
might help me get a better lay of the land though."
"In that case, let me pair you on sweeps with Ataila for two
sevendays. She knows everything about the territory, and once you've
gotten the reference points you'll be able to start going alone. Sound
good?"
"That sounds like a great plan," T'nom replied. This was all new
territory for him. Since he'd done all his training at Dolphin Cove he
had little knowledge of the Dragonsfall area.
"Then I'll set you down on the schedule with her, and I'll see you at Wing
drills tomorrow."
"I'll be there sir," T'nom replied. Feeling that the meeting might be
over, he waited to see if the Wingleader felt the same way.
