Description: The apprentice becomes a weyrling.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 12, day 7 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Rhosyn, Corofel

Shuffling quickly out with the others, he didn't spare a glance for the
Stands and the people.
His eyes were glancing out at the Cavern walls and he closed his eyes for a
second. The humming
was so loud-he couldn't hear anything! There was yelling from the
weyrlingmasters who shoved them
out onto the hot sands. Grimacing, he took a few steps forward, choosing to
stand in the circle that
had formed around the eggs which were rocking. That was safe enough. He
looked down at his robe.
It was a bad effort and proof that he couldn't sew. Still, it was white and
it covered him.

**Is Master up there? Maybe Corofel?** Somehow he didn't even think to
wonder about his parents.
After all, they probably hadn't received his letter just yet since it had
taken him so long to write and
send it. And it wasn't like they could get a ride on a dragon to get here.
It wasn't like they would ask
his Aunt, after all.

Around him, eggs started to crack open and he realized what was happening-it
was really happening!
His breath started coming quicker and the circle surged forward as the
dragonets began to appear in
their cracked shells. They were beautiful! **Will it be me today?** He
walked closer and then stopped.
Pairs began to walk off the Sands towards where the food was. He kept
scanning the Cavern, trying to see.
**Maybe there will be a brown for me?** As usual, Rohagelen's curls were
standing straight out from his
head and the young candidate was straining to get a place when another
candidate shoved him out of the
way. A second later, the boy was hugging a green.

Taken off guard, the youth headed away from the crowd as shouts rang out. He
wished he could join them.
**What are you thinking? It's your first Hatching. It takes time. Get over
it.** Looking down at the sand,
he didn't see the egg that cracked open in that moment.

It was a sizeable egg though nowhere near the size of a golden one. Still
when it split and a rather sturdy
bronze came out, it didn't surprise very many who had been taking bets.
Whirling eyes fell on first the shell's
remnants and then upon the ceiling. }:I cannot fly yet so I will walk:{ His
first resolution made, he did walk across
the Sands. It was hard to drag his heavy tail and wings that were still wet
with egg goo across the hot sands
but he managed. He knew where he was going after all.

One of the boys came toward him, telling him he was handsome. }:Of course I
am. Now get out of the way:{
The boy didn't hear him but the snort he made was unmistakable and got the
point across as he kept walking.
}:Mine has to be here somewhere. I feel him.:{ Sniffing lightly with his
snout, he shook the goo from his wings
and folded them neatly across his back.

And then he managed to get around one of his green sisters and his eyes
settled on the one he'd been trying
to find. He didn't walk anymore. No, it was time to wait. His rider would
love him and wouldn't keep him waiting
long. The bronze's stomach was horribly empty after all.

The pain hit him first-that horrible hunger. Rohagelen almost doubled over.
Then he caught himself. He brought
his head up then, feeling so strange. It was almost like someone was in his
thoughts with him. Someone knew him. Someone loved him.

}:I love you:{ And Impression was made then, turning two into one and
forming a bond that would last the rest of their lives. The weyrling rushed
forward and put his arms around his dragonet, who suffered the indignity for
a few moments before shaking his head. }:I am hungry. You have food? I smell
it:{

**There's food over there. Come on and we'll feed you.** Eager to please,
Rohagelen-now R'gelen-led him slowly towards the food tables.

}:I am Iroth and you are my rider.:{ The tone was one of pride and
certainty. This bronze had chosen a young vintner apprentice from a
farmhold. Most would wonder why, but he knew. He had always known.

**Hopefully Mam will forgive me when she gets the next letter.** Biting his
lip, R'gelen realized what had happened and what could still happen.
Hopefully it would be allright, but what if it wasn't?

}:Why do you worry? I will protect you. Your dam will not eat you. I will
not allow it:{ Puffing his chest up, the dragonet's eyes began to whirl a
hungry red tinged with yellow.

**Calm down Iroth. It'll be okay. Sorry. Okay, here's the food.** Following
the example of others, the bronze weyrling slowly slid pieces of meat down
the gullet of the dragonet who was waiting impatiently. At least that made
him quiet.
