Time in the Water

Writers: Avery, Chelle
Date Posted: 12th May 2015

Characters: Rhosyn, A'kades
Description: The two of them have a conversation and end up swimming.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 12, day 21 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Anaeryth, Vilarth

The restday weather was fine. His rider was occupied with a game.
Volaith was bored. What could he do about this? He looked over at the
sea, sparkling under the sunlight. The sea had fish. The sand would be
warm to wallow in. But he needed company. And he knew who the finest
company was.

}:Orlaith, what are you doing?:{ he asked, turning his head to look at
his queen.

At the current moment, she was perched near the Star Stones, surveying
her domain. Her eyes whirled a happy blue though she smelled rain on the
air and might head into her couch soon. }:I am watching:{

}:What are you watching?:{ he asked. Perhaps she was looking at the finest
bronzes.

}:The ones that leave, the ones that go. Some bathe, some rest. There are
young ones playing. All is well:{ Like the mother that she was, she was
content when her Weyr was functioning properly and everyone was settled. Of course
there were some dragons recovering in the Infirmary but they were being
tended and Orlaith didn't feel a need to worry about them.

}:The young ones are nice. I like spending time with them:{ Volaith said
to her. He wished he would sire his own soon. Maybe next time one of the
golds rose.

}:They can be trying sometimes but in the end they will make good dragons to
fly for their Weyr. They have strong Blood:{ Since a majority of the younger
dragons in the Weyr either came from her or Vilarth who also came from Vista Point's
Bloodlines, Orlaith had no small amount of certainty in this fact.

}:Your wing will get some of those to graduate soon,:{ Volaith observed.

}:Yes. New dragons are needed to fill in the ranks. I wait to see when my
daughter grows.:{ That was a rare admission since Orlaith rarely if ever laid claim
to anything. However, it seemed she was more than willing to lay her stamp of ownership
on Anaeryth.

}:She will be strong and fly well under you.: She will be trained
well.:{ The bronze had utmost confidence in his own skills.

Of course she would. Orlaith would accept nothing less. She would not
allow her own offspring to be an embarrassment to herself and to the Weyr.
}:What do you when you are not training?:{

}:Hunt or fish. Swim. My rider says I raced through the sky and fly for
the joy of it. Now that I am better, I will again.:{

}:I like to swim:{ She didn't race through the sky like some green, but she
did fly sometimes with her rider. It was nice letting the sun soak into your
wings while you flew.

}:I am sure the water is lovely, if you wish to,:{ he said gallantly.

Considering that, she gave the Bowl one last look. It was a good day.
}:I go to the ocean then:{ It was cooler water than the lake and it made
her hide soft.

Time with the prettiest gold around would perk up any bronze's mood, and
Volaith was no exception. Hopefully she would spot his brilliance and how
the scar had healed into something striking.

}:I shall follow you and we will see what we can see.:{ that sounded good
to his head.

It didn't take long for Orlaith to make a breathtaking descent down the other
side of the Weyr, to land on the beach. Diving into the water, she wasted no
time in disappearing until one could only see her neck and head. It was cool
and nice.

The bronze admired the gold as she dove in. }:Your hide is
particularly sparkly today, has your rider been taking extra care?:{
he complimented.

}:My rider always does what is best for me. She is very careful. Sometimes she
forgets to do what is best for herself though:{ There might have been
just a little grumble in the queen's tone. However, it was soon forgotten.

}:Riders are good for watching us, but sometimes they forget
themselves. Mine needed me to make him less serious and more fun. We
are very good for them.:{

}:I take care of my Rhosyn:{ That was a very definite fact and Orlaith
would dare anyone to say otherwise. }:She has too much fun sometimes. Not
lately though but maybe it changes:{ Recently, different feelings had been coming
through their bond and Orlaith had noticed a shift. It was a good thing.

The bronze was briefly distracted by a silvery glint in the water.
Fish? No, it was shipfish. The ones that played and were not for
eating. }:I like these,:{ he said.

}:They talk and sometimes they rub my undersides.:{ They asked her permission
first, of course, but Orlaith watched one jump over her tail where it
was floating in the water. They were certainly playful creatures.

}:They're very clever. I like them more than the little cousins,:{ the
bronze said.

Something silver flashed in the water. Something not a shipfish. The
bronze dove and grabbed at it. The fish was medium sized and slippery.
He bit at it to make it stop moving. Then he extended it towards the gold.

Another one that wasn't exactly friendly with firelizards but didn't ignore them
entirely either, Orlaith rumbled in agreement. She saw his gift, but
wasn't hungry. She had devoured a whersport the day before. }:Good catch:{

If she didn't want, the bronze wouldn't let it go to waste. He snapped
it down and preened under her admiration. }:It is good to be a mighty
hunter again. Though I am sure you are far better. Perhaps you should
show me your skill,:{ the bronze suggested.

}:Perhaps:{ she replied cryptically, though his flattery had gone a long way.
For the time being, Orlaith was content to just swim and enjoy the water.
