Interloper!

Characters: G'wen, Paetri
Description: Marli spots an interloper and is displeased.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 4 of Turn 7

The fish was heavy and still flapping about on Marli's talons as he
gripped it. It was perfect, the little blue firelizard decided. His
beloved green would find it most tasty. Proud of himself, he hauled it
to where he knew Neath would be, sunning with others in the bowl. With a loud
chirrup to announced himself, he plopped the fish down in front of
Neath and without pause, moved to land behind her head knobs, his
usual perch.

Then an strange scent came his way. He sniffed and looked about,
peering around Neath to search for that new scent. It was like his
own. Male.

Curled in the place where Marli loved the most, on Neath's head, was a
new little flit. A bronze flit.

A squeak of outrage immediately sounded from the little blue. In his
_spot_? _His_!? Sputtering his outrage, Marli hopped up and down
furiously, scolding the bronze flit with high pitched cries.

Little Dusk opened one eye when he was aware that someone was watching
him. In fact, the newcomer was making such a noise it would have been
a shock if Dusk_hadn't_woken. Even Neath was now fully awake and
lifting her head to try to see what the matter was.

~~Bad! Bad! My place!~~ Marli hopped towards the little bronze and
tried to nudge him out of the spot that he had long ago claimed.
~~Bad!~~

Little Dusk chirped pitiously. He didn't know what was going on, but
Neath did. With the grumble, she reached out to G'wen.

}:I seem to have the beginnings of a flit fight on my head, can you
please gather Marli's owner and come to me, please? We're all at the
bowl:{ She didn't dare shake her head, her tiny baby would get
hurt.

G'wen snickered to himself as he got the message. Running, he dashed
to where he had last seen Paetri.

Paetri hummed softly as she dipped her feet in the water, enjoying her
rest day. The sound of feet on the gravel made her turn, blinking as
she saw G'wen running towards her. "G'wen? Is something wrong?"

Marli hopped down to the spot that he coveted and stared at the little
bronze. ~~Go away!~~

G'wen didn't bother answering Paetri, there wasn't enough time.
Instead he grabbed her by the hand and dragged her to where poor Neath
was laying, looking as mortified as a dragon could look, with the flit
fight on her head. Tiny Dusk was sitting by her headknobs, making the
most distressing high pitched keening.

Paetri followed, trying to ask what was going on and what was wrong,
but kept pace until they reached Neath. She heard the keening and
lifted her gaze, mouth parting in surprise. It didn't take her long to
discover the cause of the keening. "Marli! Leave that baby alone!"

Marli, in the middle of another chittering scold, stopped with a
strangled peep as he turned to look at his pet. He ducked his head and
shifted from foot to foot, casting side long glances at the younger
bronze.

Pinching the bridge of her nose, Paetri turned to Gwen. "Your new flit?"

G'wen nodded and held up his hand for Dusk. The tiny bronze darted to
his person and snuggled up in G'wen's arms. One round eye was watching
the blue flit for any more trouble. Neath looked at the two people and
groaned woefully, the blue flit still on her head.

"Oh Neath, I'm so sorry." Paetri winced at G'wen and snapped her
fingers. "Here, Marli. Now."

Looking defeated, Marli leaped off of Neath and flew to Paetri's
shoulder, his body slumped in dejection. He creeled mournfully, then
eyed Dusk with resentment. ~Not like. Not like.~ Gripping Marli's
little head in her fingers, she stared at him. "You apologize to both
of them. You know better and you embarrassed Neath." Marli flicked his
gaze at the bronze, then to Neath and then back to Paetri. His tail
flicked as the little blue's head bowed. ~Sorry sorry ~

Dusk sniffed and creeled against at G'wen. Neath snorted hard in
Marli's direction and turned her attention to her new baby. Ever so
lightly she touched his side with the tip of her tongue, just to
reassure herself that he had taken no harm.

"It's okay, Paetri, I know how nuts Marli is for Neath." G'wen smiled
at the girl.

At the attention paid to Dusk, Marli sulked, shifting from foot to
foot. HIs head hung even lower and he slumped dramatically against
Paetri's shoulder as if horribly wounded.

"I know. He barely glances at Camilth, if you'd believe it. He still
sees her as 'the baby'." Paetri smiled wryly. "I don't think he ever
realized that Neath might have another male about." She winked.

G'wen popped Dusk up onto his shoulder and motioned towards the
Dinning Hall. "Maybe if we feed these two then Marli will relax. And
it'll give Neath a break from her 'boys.'"

With Marli still dramatically moaning over the rejection on her
shoulder, Paetri's lips lifted and arched a brow at G'wen. "I hope so.
He's acting like he's been mortally threaded." She moved to tuck her
arm around G'wen's. "But let's give her a break. Maybe she'll feel
more charitable about her suitor then. " She winked.

"And maybe we can get these two idiots to like one another, eh?" G'wen grinned and led them to the Dinning Hall.
