Yriadha

She'd watched from the upper floor of the Hold building as the giant
gold had taken to the air with both the Weyrwoman and Eirock on her
back. The sight was glorious and she wasn't quite sure what else she
was feeling but it had to do with the big man cuddled up so familiarly
behind the Weyrwoman.

When the last glint of gold had disappeared into the sky. She turned
back to the room with a sigh and that was when she saw her friend.
"Beautiful isn't she?"

"Yes, but has a bit of a reputation for being a whore." Yriadha
replied bluntly. She strode to the window and gazed out of the window
for a moment. "Oh...you meant the dragon. Yes. Yes, she is."

Sophque couldn't help the grin and chuckle. "You're a mess," she shook
her head. "Still do you think that is why the Steward went with her?"
Some people didn't get Yriadha's sense of humor but she could be funny
when she wanted. Though that was rare if never around other staff.

"Eirock went with her?" Yriadha's brow immediately furrowed as her
eyes flicked to the sky. She turned her gaze back to Sophque, her only
friend, and gave an indelicate snort. "It would not surprise me.
Rhosyn isn't discriminate on who she beds, I'm afraid. Though if it's
true I have to say I'm disappointed in our Steward."

Sophque shrugged and turned away from the window. The tiny hopes she'd
been nursing melted away into her general sadness. The mood turned
sour and she agreed. "He's a man," she said. "Why wouldn't he avail
himself of something like that freely offered?" The thought made her
realize that she didn't want another relationship like that with no
commitment or all the power so very one sided.

"Men generally do, dear." She laid her hand on Sophque, her mind
working even as she comforted. "It's not anything that they're
discouraged from; if anything, and you know it as much as I, men are
generally canines that dart towards any bitch in heat that they scent."

"I know they do because they can," Sophque sighed with a sad smile.
"I'd just hoped he seemed just a bit interested." She shook her head
in negation of her own thoughts. "I like him. He's funny and... well I
guess it doesn't matter what I think right? We both know what he
wants, and I'm just being silly. Wouldn't be the first time."

"It does matter what you think." Yriadha countered easily as she
turned back to the window with a frown. This put her in a bit of a
quandry; she wanted Eirock as a match for Humari, but if her friend
also desired the man...damn. Perhaps she could steer Sophque towards a
more suitable match. "And he may well be interested, but you may be
right on what he's more interested in." She mused for a moment,
stroking her fingers lightly over her braid. "You know, Sophque, I
have an unwed son who is quite handsome." She turned to her friend
with a slight smile. "A tanner by trade. I could introduce you...if
you like."

"I don't know," Sophque sighed. "It wasn't like I was looking it
just..." She shook her head not wanting to offend her friend. "I'd be
happy to meet him if you think it would be a good idea."

"Well, I know you're lonely, Sophque." Yriadha's voice was sincere
with her concern for the one friend she had left. "And I would like to
see you with a good man." Though not a strictly physically
affectionate person, Yriadha laid her hand lightly on Sophque's
shoulder. "One who would appreciate you."

Sophque smiled and put her hand over Yriadha's. It was rare that she
showed any kind of emotion and Sophque really did appreciate her long
friendship. She'd never been able to share anything of her
relationship with Morin other than with the Headwoman and she'd
appreciated that one outlet more than she could possibly express.
"Thank you my dear friend," she said warmly. Not that she was sure
about Bortem but that she was thankful Yriadha thought enough of her
to offer. "Do you think he'd like me? I've never gotten the impression
he'd looked in my direction."

"Of course he would." Yriadha asserted firmly. "Bortem is not the
obvious sort. He's quiet." Unlike her other sons who were far more
loud and outspoken, Bortem had always been the quiet one, more like
Humari than the eldest of her brood. "But I'll leave it up to you and
leave it to your decision. Once you think you might be ready, just
come to me and I'll be sure to help."

Sophque smiled at her friend. She was going to have to do some soul
searching. Her parents hadn't said anything outright about her single
status but she got the feeling that was coming to an end soon.

"I will," she said softly. "I need to go get Sophine," she said.
Sadness in her voice couldn't be helped and she didn't try to hide it
from Yriadha. "I'll see you tomorrow."
