Description: The greenrider tries to teach the weyrling something.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 18 of Turn 7
A bronze dragonet following along beside you tended to make one
conspicuous. R'gelen had figured that out quickly. It made him avoid
most of the crowded places especially since when there were more
people Iroth tended to be more curious. As it was, though, he was
hungry and he couldn't avoid the most crowded place in the Weyr. So it
was they made their first trip into the Dining Cavern.
Whirling blue eyes curiously regarded all of the people they passed.
Thankfully, the Weyrfolk parted ways for them so Iroth didn't need to
push them out of the way. Finding an empty table, R'gelen stopped and
then wondered if he should try and get Iroth into the chair. **I
seriously doubt I can manage that. You better just stay here beside my
chair.** At that point, Iroth was actually around seven foot tall so
he towered over the table-looming rather over his small rider. Sitting
back on his haunches, he got comfortable since he'd just eaten himself.
They'd just had their lesson on weyr sexuality and R'gelen was still
considering that. Of course between the stories about his Aunt and
everything else, he'd known something about it but it had never been
put so straight to him before. He didn't know what to think. Of
course, as young as he was, he didn't really understand sexuality
anyway so it was all a bit strange.
"Don't you think he's a bit big to be in here with you," she said with
a smile. She remembered her own first days with Sawauth and knew how
hard it had been to break her of the habit.
Bringing his head up, he saw the knots first. **Greenrider. They're a pretty
easygoing lot.** Immediately calming once he figured that out, he gave a
small
smile in response. "Maybe, but he doesn't. He wanted to see what it looked
like.
And I couldn't exactly explain why he shouldn't care about it. Something
about if
I was going to go there, he should go there too." Young dragon logic was an
odd
thing.
}:Where you go, I go. I want to see my Weyr. Someday I will not be
able to. I will be bigger than Kenirath I think:{ He didn't seem too
sure but at least it showed that Iroth had been looking and making
comparisons. He understood that he would be like the older bronzes one
day. }:This food does not smell as good as the herdbeast you give me:{
Tavia nodded her understanding. "Of course," she smiled. "I remember,
but you should probably ask him to go outside into the Weyrling barracks."
"Why?" R'gelen didn't understand exactly. Then again he wasn't
Weyrbred and didn't understand what was proper and what wasn't. And
Iroth had been exploring the Weyr with him without problem lately.
They had been encouraged to do so by the staff after all. And he
wasn't hurting anyone, just quietly watching. He had
earned a few glances though.
"Well," Tavia said gently. "His tail did almost trip T'lat a moment ago
and his head is close to the ceiling. Don't you think he's just a
little too big?"
"Who is T'lat?" Looking around him, R'gelen suddenly felt a little lost.
And he wondered if maybe he had done the wrong thing. They had told
them to explore and here he was exploring but she was looking a him funny
like he was wrong. **Maybe we've done something foolish. Maybe we weren't
supposed to come here?** Iroth had wanted to come, though, and he had
trusted
his dragon. Beginning to feel self conscious and like a stupid farmboy who
didn't
know any better again, he tried to make himself look smaller.
}:It is our Weyr. If they can go here, we can go here. Why are you ashamed?
Are you ashamed of me?:{ Iroth sounded confused as he probed his
rider's thoughts.
**Not you! I just always feel like since I didn't grow up here and I don't
know
any better I keep making mistakes. I don't know what the right things
are.** He hurried to eat his food, thinking to make a quick exit.
}:That is what we are supposed to learn-what the right things are. So
don't feel bad because you are learning:{ Iroth turned his head toward the
greenrider
who had upset his rider and gave a small snort. He might have also moved
closer to
the small weyrling.
Tavia pointed with her chin as the greenrider sat at a nearby table.
She realized this one was young but not to know a Weyrling in the
class above him just graduated? This one seriously had a lot to learn.
Clearly she wasn't the correct teacher. "Well it's been nice to meet
you," she said dropping her fork onto her empty plate. "I'm sure we'll
meet again," she smiled and rose from her seat. There was a reason
she didn't work with Weyrlings.
