For once, Xeladrie's smile across the table at her husband was
completely genuine. She was in high spirits this evening, excited
about the upcoming Turnover and with a little surprise for him
planned, one that should put him into good spirits as well.

"And how was your day?"

"About usual," he said as he came in and kissed her cheek. "How was
yours?" He took his seat across the intimate table from her. He picked
up the wineglass that was already filled and took a sip. "Nice," he
commented.

"It was good. I'm working on the baby's blanket now," she told him.
But that kind of thing surely wasn't interesting. "How are Turnover
plans going?"

"Going well," he said smiling at her first comment. So many things
about his wife were endearing. The simple joy she took in preparing
for their child comforted him.. "Eirock and Yriadha have things well
in hand. Oh and there will be boat races. Did you ever have those at
Turquoise Bay?"

She wrinkled her nose, remembering. "I saw them when I was very young,
but as I grew older, the girls were kept inside for the men's events.
We did get to attend the dancing and the like," she said fondly.

Bryvin understood how her father might feel that way but the society
at Sunstone wasn't quite as restrictive. "Well I would be happy to
have your company in the Lord's box for the races as well as at my
side during the evening festivities. I hear the technicians have
something special in store for us."

"Then I would love to see the races. Are the seacrafters competing
against each other, or against contenders from other locations? Or
should I wait and see?" She hadn't expected this generosity from him.

His last words perked her attention. "What kind of special?"

"There are several different kinds from kids to adults and from the
amateur to the crafter. I'm sure with your complexion you wouldn't
want to be out there all day," he smiled. "But I can get the schedule
so you can see the ones you want." He thought about the conversation
they'd had with the technician. "I'm not sure I really know but its
something they want to show off so I figured why not let them."

"They're an odd crowd, aren't they? Handle the complicated electrical
stuff. And they're Northern." That was about all she knew about the
craft. She'd always taken their labor for granted until coming here.
"I look forward to seeing what they can do.

"Yes," he agreed. "I can't pretend to understand them or what they do.
But they give us so much that I am willing to overlook some of their
non-conformity." **Like female crafters.**

"Will we as the Leaders be doing anything special?" she asked. "Such
as hosting a special dinner with valued members of the hold? I don't
really know what Sunstone's traditions are yet…"

"Yes," he said. "I'd have thought Yriadha would have consulted you by
now on the arrangements. "I'll have her come to you so you can be
fully informed."

"Thank you, I'd like to know. I...tend to avoid her," Xeladrie admitted.
Yriadha's cool and poise intimidated her. Though after what had happened
with Humari...

"I heard Danrina has to leave soon," she said after a moment.

"She does," he said carefully not knowing where this particular line
of conversation was going. "Her intended is here and will soon take
her to wife."

"She and Humari have been my closest companions and favorite ladies. Is
there anything we can do?" Xeladrie asked, looking up at Bryvin. She
wanted him to know how much she wanted her to stay.

He nodded. "Would it make you happy if she could stay here with you?"

"it would please me very much, my husband."

"Well then," he smiled a genuine smile that had more to do with the
ideas forming for keeping Danrina at Sunstone than his indulgence of
his wife's wishes. "I will have to make arrangements for you then.
With Humari having her baby and unable to attend you for awhile,
you'll need Danrina to stay for some time," he mused.

"Precisely. I could use one of the other ladies if I lose them both,
like Haise, but I find Danrina to be more agreeable." Haise was
dim-witted and with a shrill voice, even if she was sweet.

"If you need her here, then she'll stay and her husband can visit when
he wishes," he waved a hand is if it were already done. "Don't worry
my dear, you'll have your lady."

"I appreciate your aid in this matter, my husband." She started to say
something else, then stopped short. Her eyes widened and she moved her
hand to her abdomen.

Bryvin was immediately concerned. "What's wrong," he half rose from
his chair. "Should I call the healer?"

The twitch happened again. She ignored her husband for a moment,
concentrating. Then she looked up at him. "Could you come here for a
second? I want to see something..."

He didn't say anything but slid quickly to her side searching her face
for any pain.

She lifted the hand from her belly and reached up for his hand. "Feel
this." And she settled his in place and waited.

His puzzlement gave way to wonder as he felt a tiny bit of movement
under his hand, "Is that?"

"I think it is," she breathed in wonder. There it was again.

His eyes widened and he grinned almost foolishly. That was his child
right there moving under his hand it was tiny for sure but he could
feel the delicate movement. He impulsively kissed her cheek and put
his arm around Xeladrie. Bryvin had never thought to feel so joyful
over such a small thing but there it was. "That's our baby."

She smiled back at him, the happiness on her face unfeigned. "So it is."
