Date: month 2, day 26 of Turn 8

K'sedel, Y'gel, Brigel, Cosani
Sitting down at her desk, Rhosyn brought out her inkpot, quill, sand, and
hide. Quiet as she formed her thoughts she finally decided on a start and
began to write.
Tsaera:
Hope things are fine at your Weyr and perhaps you are finally taking
advantage of well-deserved peace. As for me, I am pulled in so many
directions I sometimes don't know exactly where to start, but I am keeping
my head above water so far. Perhaps someday I will have more help. Lanniya
is still in training, but she didn't do very well on her first between. She
and Anaeryth made it through fine but then she took it upon herself to go
after a lost green dragon instead of staying put. The Weyrlingmasters and I
think she's going to need to work on self control. Here's hoping it works
out before she graduates to my wing.
Just recently found out my Second is pregnant. I know you remember Lenala.
Anyway, the Weyrlingmaster Second caught Vilarth and now a baby is coming.
She's decided to keep it, strangely. I kept my last one, though, so I can't
say no. And it'll be another good candidate someday perhaps. Now, though, I
will have to work on both our duties when the time comes and she is unable.
Maybe I can push Lanniya into early service to learn. We'll see.
To your credit, your grandson is now the Weyrleader's wingsecond. He's
pleased about it and I can't help but smile. It was about time they started
to train him since young riders like F'lin and D'ren will be replacing the
old men before too long. Especially in a Pass when you never know what can
happen, these things are important.
My own offspring is crawling-so her fostermother tells me. No health
problems so nothing to worry about. I dread the day she starts to walk,
though, since that's when the trouble starts. At least it isn't really my
problem.
Have to dash-time for evening meal.

A reply was delivered by an old blue flit late that evening. Agate chirped
cheerfully when he came from /between/, a short letter gripped between his
claws. He dropped it in Rhosyn's lap, then immediately disappeared back
where he came from in anticipation of a treat from his human.
Rhosyn,
This is certainly news! Lenala, pregnant... I can't say that I'm surprised
that it happened, but in confidence I am surprised that she's decided to
keep the child. Having Lanniya step forward to assume some of Lenala's
duties-- under Lenala's supervision, of course -- once Lenala is grounded
may be a good opportunity for her. She'll need to learn, but she also needs
to be ready. Too much responsibility too soon can be detrimental to
confidence. Let me know if I can be of assistance again.
As for F'lin, I'm glad that K'sedel has taken him under his wing. I hadn't
heard the news yet, and I'm glad of it. He's got a good head on his
shoulders and will do well. He thinks of the Weyr first and foremost, and
I'm so glad that I allowed him to Stand. He's a good bronzerider and K'sedel
will bring out the best in him. I am proud of him-- and if you're curious, I
can assure you that I played no part in this development!
Nisheyl seems to be doing so well! They're so funny when they become mobile.
Walking is nothing to dread, though-- yes, they get into trouble, but
they're also so curious at that age. Exhausting, yes, but also such a
beautiful opportunity to grow. I found that with my own children and again
with my grandchildren. Seeing the world through a baby's eyes means
everything is new, everything is hopeful, and joy is found in the strangest
of places.
Best regards,
Tsaera

Sitting up to read it, Rhosyn devoured the words and smiled to herself. She
was never one to wait so she set the note aside and then began to pen a
reply. It wasn't hard, anyhow.
Tsaera:
I think this is the first time that the child has ever taken root, by the
sounds of it. In the past Lenala had either gone between before there was
time or she had taken precautions. Again, it doesn't matter much I suppose.
At least I don't have to worry about whether or not she'll be a good mother
since she'll be fostering the baby out of necessity just as I did.
Now that Nisheyl is older I feel I can be more sure that she is N'vanik's
and not K'sedel's. She has the same forehead and slope to her face as
N'vanik does. He certainly takes more of an interest in her anyway so that's
a good thing. It's just hard since she is here and he isn't but that's
normal for riders most of the time. At least now that she's young and she
has stability with Y'gel and Briata she doesn't question it much. Plus they
have a young son, Brigel, so that gives her a brother. I wonder if N'vanik
ever told her half-sister about her-not that it matters much. I had a large
family when I was younger until I was sent off to foster. I don't see any of
them much anymore except one of my nephews Impressed at the last Hatching at
Dragonsfall. He's quite young but managed a bronze so I'm happy. He's never
met me and it's highly likely he doesn't know what I am to him. Perhaps one
day when he's older I'll tell him.
Time for bed. Tomorrow is going to be a long day. I have waterball practice
and a wing meeting and probably something else. We're waiting to see how
Vilarth's clutch comes out but hopes are high and I feel confident it was a
good Flight. Both Lenala and Vilarth have come a long way and I am pleased.
There's more work to be done with them, but I can see the changes.
Good eve!
Rhosyn
