Lenala

Lenala

"Rhosyn? Do you have a moment?" Lenala asked. She looked pale, with dark circles around her eyes. She hadn't slept much during the last nights. She was also debating with her body if her food should stay down or not.

"Mmmm..." came her usual short noise. She had managed to get through half the work she wanted to finish that day which was quite an accomplishment. After such an exhausting morning, she was lying in a hammock that hung over her weyr ledge as Orlaith rested behind her on her couch. Since all the goldriders shared the same ledge, it wasn't unusual for Lenala to walk over. Her eyes opened, but she didn't move much.

For some reason, Lenala found that curt response very discouraging, despite it being typical Rhosyn. Suddenly she didn't know what to say.

Sensing that there was something going on here, Rhosyn tried to sit up, but it was difficult in a hammock. After much adjustment, she manage to get herself into a sitting position. "Do we need to go inside and talk about something?"
**Please don't let it be Lanniya again.**

"Yes, please," Lenala replied. It would be more private inside. Here on the ledge, any passerby could hear them.

That meant more struggling but she managed to get out of the hammock. Walking past Orlaith's hulk, Rhosyn noted the queen's even heavy breathing which signaled she was still sleeping well enough. **This better not be about Vilarth either.** When they were inside the weyr, she turned and plopped onto the sofa, indicating Lenala could sit if she wanted.

Following Rhosyn in, Lenala ran inside her head various ways she could tell her news. In the end, she just blurted it out: "I'm pregnant."

Those were not the words that Rhosyn had been expecting to come out of Lenala's mouth nor were they words she would have wanted the other goldrider to say. **Beautiful, just beautiful.** Then things began to quickly come together. Her wingsecond wouldn't be telling her this if it was her plan to go /between/ and end it. No, Lenala was telling her this because it was going to disrupt things. After carrying her own first child not too long ago, Rhosyn couldn't exactly steer her away from it without looking like a hypocrite. Then again, the Weyr could always use good candidates.

**And she got up the courage to tell me. That's a good sign but it also means she wants it.** "That's....interesting." Her voice was careful even as Rhosyn tried to watch her reaction. "How far along? And do you know whose it is?"

"It's A'kades' and probably got started during the Turn Over," Lenala replied. At least Rhosyn wasn't yelling at her, yet.

That was an interesting piece of information, allright. So another bronze-gold offspring. That was helpful. "Does he know? And have you decided to keep it then?" Trying to determine the timing, she knew that Vilarth's flight would make it easier to keep the baby and Lenala would be grounded during some of that time anyway so that had been planned for. Still, it would be far longer than Rhosyn had anticipated. Fortunately, she could fly in their wing till she couldn't anymore unlike most.

"Yes and yes," Lenala replied. "I've given it a lot of thought." The decision hadn't been easy. But the more she thought about it, the more the thought of having a child with A'kades pleased her. She liked him, a lot, she might even be falling in love with him.

"So you'll be pregnant when Lanniya comes out of the weyrling wing, if she graduates on time." That was something to consider. Rhosyn needed Lenala's help with the young rider. She bit her lip, considering the possibilities. "You'll need to see Reeva and let me know how things are going, of course." Looking down at her hands and not wanting to project her own feelings about children onto Lenala, the Weyrwoman considered her next words for a few moments before speaking. "I know what it feels like to have your first child after so many turns of not having one. It can be very scary and sometimes you'll feel confused and things can be very strange. But if I could do it, I know you can."

"Of course. Thank you," Lenala replied. She was a bit surprised how supportive Rhosyn was. She had been afraid she would try to talk her to get rid of the baby. "Vilarth will be grounded anyways soon, so this doesn't disrupt things too badly. She never lets
me go anywhere when the eggs are hardening."

"It might be good if you make arrangements with the Weyrlingmaster to work more closely with Lanniya during that time. You'll be around the Weyr too and it'll give you something to do with your condition anyway. With graduation looming, that time to prepare her
is becoming smaller." That would be useful and perhaps it would let Lenala practice her mothering skills in a way. It didn't deviate much from the original plan as it was.

"Sure," Lenala said.

"Allright go get some rest. And get some of Reeva's stuff-it'll help the nausea. Doesn't taste great but it works." She well remembered all of the things she had been forced to down during those strange months.

"Thank you, I will," Lenala replied and she smiled at Rhosyn. She wanted to say some more, thank her for being so understanding but she was feeling suddenly shy and the words didn't come out.
