Yriadha

Xeladrie entered the solar with her hand pressed to the small of her
back. She was beginning to have to use the necessary more often, and
it rankled her greatly. She settled back down into her chair and tried
to work up the enthusiasm to work on the baby's blanket. She'd really
rather be working with clay.

Not long after she had sat, a knock came on the solar door and it
opened, Yriadha entering. "Lady Xeladrie, I have someone who you need
to meet if you are feeling well enough." As always, Yriadha's voice
was cool and polite, betraying nothing of her feelings.

Xeladrie sat up straighter and nodded at the Headwoman. "I'm feeling
well," she said. Curiosity stirred within her as she wondered what was
going on.

"I'm pleased to hear it." Yriadha turned and beckoned behind her, then
stepped aside. A young blonde woman stepped in and gave a deep curtsy.
"Lady Xeladrie, this is Vreena. She is a widow of good birth and will
be stepping in to assist you in what ever you may require. With the
Hold's heir to be born soon, we all want you to have the best care
possible."

Xeladrie smiled at Vreena, gesturing to the open seats. "Pleased to
meet you. I look forward to having more ladies and making new
friends."

Then she kept the smile in place as she looked at Yriadha. "I
appreciate your assistance."

"Lady." Vreena looked at the Lady Holder and had to catch her breath.
She was indeed very lovely. Bryvin was a lucky man. She moved to the chair
and sat, hands folded in her lap.

"You're welcome, Lady." Yriadha inclined her head. "I will send Humari
to you on the morrow. She should be ready to come back to help with
your needs now."

"I appreciate that. It will be good to have help as things progress."
Xeladrie studied Vreena, wondering what kind of woman she would be. A
friend? A hanger-on?

Yriadha inclined her head and stepped out, closing the door behind
her. Vreena turned to look at Xeladrie and a smile formed on her lips.
She was uncertain as to the relationship between the Headwoman and the
Lady, so was cautious as to what would be wise to say. "It will be a
pleasure to help you, Lady."

Without the Headwoman's forbidding presence, Xeladrie relaxed a
little. "I'm looking forward to learning about you. Do you mind
telling me a little bit about yourself?"

Smoothing her skirts on her lap, Vreena smiled. "I grew up here, but moved
when I married." She kept a straight face. Her husband had been an old man
and she'd not wanted the marriage at all. " My husband died a few months ago
and I came home."

"Have you missed being at the Hold here? It is a lovely place." Which
was a lie; there were some things to love but on the whole she
preferred the modern conveniences of her old Hold.

"I missed many things. I didn't like Emerald Falls very much."

"Did you like the electricity? I miss it," she said, knowing how shallow
it sounded. "I've never been out to that side of the continent."

"I do miss it sometimes. It's so much brighter than glows. " Vreena
smoothed her skirts again. "I'm sure you'll get the opportunity to.
Lord Bryvin surely travels there on occasion."

"I hope I'll get to travel more when our heir is born. But for now I
suppose I'm not allowed to travel." She sighed.

Vreena peered at the beautiful woman, eyes flicking over her with
appreciation before Xeladrie could notice. "I can tell you about my
travels then. I may not be a Harper, but I think I can tell a good
story."

"I'd love to hear that," Xeladrie said with real pleasure.

Pleased that Xeladrie was investing her with a smile, Vreena settled
down to begin telling her some of the stories of her travels. If she
happened to embellish just a bit, who would know?
