Description: The weyrlingpair gives the Weyrhealer a lift.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 2, day 18 of Turn 8
Iroth had been recently washed and oiled. His new pair of straps were
buckled and double checked. The bronze was waiting in the bottom of the
Weyrbowl, eagerly hoping someone would need his help. His rider, small as he
was, was hard to spot as he stood to the side of the bronze hulk. R'gelen
understood the necessity of elevator duty and he didn't mind it. This was
only their first day, though. The first few times it had been easy.
Sometimes, though, people would ask him questions. That caused distractions
and he was worried about making a mistake. **What if we dropped someone?
What if we run into the Weyrwall?** Questions like that ran through his
brain until he felt Iroth's quiet confidence bleeding through. His bronze
was beyond annoyed at his lack of confidence in the dragon's abilities.
}:I was born to fly. I will not crash.:{ His eyes spun a warning yellow
before going back to their usual green color. Hopefully R'gelen would stop
his fits and quiet down.
Taren strode towards the young bronze, carrying a large bag of medical
supplies. Not all patients could come to infirmary, so the healers did
regular 'housecalls'. Today it was his turn. Of course, since he was the
Weyrhealer, it meant he had assigned it to himself.
"Hoy there! Are you the one on elevator duty?" Taren called. He stopped to
admire the bronze. From his shoulder, Aes warbled his own greeting.
Iroth's head came down as he took a glance at the healer approaching.
R'gelen turned and immediately searched for knots. Recognizing who Taren
was, he straightened up quickly. "Yes sir Weyrhealer. Where do you need to
go?" He hurried forward to help the older man with his things, trying to be
careful, lest it be fragile.
"I have several people to visit," Taren answered. "You're a young one,
aren't you?" he asked. Shards, to him the boy looked barely old enough to
Impress. The contrast between the rider and the growing bronze made R'gelen
seem even smaller and younger. He did remember watching him Impress.
"Aye sir but we can fly just the same." He tried to have a lot of confidence
in his tone. To be fair, he was mainly banking on Iroth's ability-not his
own. He did trust his dragon, though. So far Iroth hadn't let him down.
"Of course you can. It's the big fella who's doing all the muscle work after
all," Taren replied and nodded towards Iroth. "What's his name?"
"This is Iroth and I'm R'gelen." Packing the bag carefully into the sidebag,
R'gelen waited for Taren to mount, hoping to provide assistance if he
needed. Not that he could really push the older man up. He was quite a bit
smaller than him, after all.
Taren didn't need any help, he was weyrbrat and knew how to mount a dragon.
"Well, I'm Taren and this little fella is Aes. My duty to you, Iroth and
thank you for transporting me. I think you're already bigger than my
mother's green, " he said. Aes warbled a greeting and flew off from Taren's
shoulder. He circled around the bronze dragon, his trills sounding bit
jealous.
Iroth gave a pleased rumble at the compliment. He remained still while Taren
mounted, watching the firelizard with curiosity. R'gelen climbed up after
the healer, scrambling into place behind the first neckridge. He took his
time buckling the straps, mindful of safety. "Are you strapped in sir?
And..where are we going first?"
"Yes, I'm safely strapped," Taren replied and gave the boy the directions
for the first visit. She was a greenrider who had recently given birth. She
had some complications during the delivery and her recovery was slow. It was
easier for Taren to go to see her and her baby. "You have to wait outside on
the ledge while I visit the patients. I hope you don't mind it.
Healer-patient confidentiality, you know."
"Oh that's fine." No, he had no wish to get between a healer and their
patient. Certainly R'gelen didn't know anything about healerwork and he
didn't care to learn. **Well I can do first aid but that's about it.** That
was mainly what they taught in weyrling lessons. Beyond that, he was lost.
Directing Iroth with his thoughts, he held on to the neckridge as the bronze
lifted them to the air and then glided up and to the right, passing several
ledges until they reached the right one. He landed easily, though it took
some time for him to fold his wings and allow his passenger to dismount.
"I hope you won't get bored while waiting, this might take awhile," Taren
said when he dismounted and disappeared inside the weyr. When he got back,
it was almost half a candlemark later. He wore a smile. There was something
in newborn babies that made him happy. Not to mention he was pleased with
the mother's recovery.
R'gelen had used that time to do some of the hidework he needed to finish up
for the next day's lessons. Weyrlinghood was certainly a test to see how
well you could juggle duties and tasks. When he saw Taren coming, he looked
up and put his things away into his jacket pocket. "All's well sir? You
ready to go?"
"Yes, they're fine. We have next weyr to visit," Taren replied. It didn't
take him long to get back on Iroth and strapped in. He gave the boy
instructions for the next place. It wasn't far from the ledge they were now.
Before too long they were airborne again and winging slowly towards the next
weyr. There was a brown dragon perched on it so Iroth had to land carefully,
jockeying for room. The young bronze settled and then addressed the
brown. }:The healer comes for yours:{
The brown made room for them and Taren unstrapped and dismounted again.
"This gets repetitive after awhile," he remarked.
