Description: The Weyrwoman comes to visit while Vilarth Rises.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 1, day 21 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: R'gelen, Lenala, Genna
When Vilarth had decided to go up, it hadn't taken long for Rhosyn to get
herself up on her dragon and out of the Weyr through turns of habit.
Things were so much easier now that she wasn't pregnant. They /betweened/
first to a point far east of the Weyr, where they wouldn't get in
the way of the others. Hovering high in the sky, Rhosyn tried to decide
where she wanted to go. Dolphin Cove was the usual choice. So maybe
something different was in order.
And so the big golden queen disappeared again and when she came back, it was
Dragonsfall Weyr that was below them. Looking down, Rhosyn let Orlaith begin
a slow circling descent. Hailing the watchdragon was no problem and it didn't
take long for them to land. The weather was actually beautiful and sunny.
**Good choice I think.** Her real reason for choosing Dragonsfall was to
talk to G'nir to see how her young nephew was doing but there were a few
folks she could say hello to.
Nirreth bugled a greeting and then informed his rider: }: Orlaith is here.
:{
**Why?** G'nir asked, a bit puzzled for such an unexpected and unannounced
visit.
There was moment of silence from Nirreth when he asked for answer and then
he replied. }: Vilarth is Rising. :{
**Ah, that explains it.** G'nir put his work away and walked out to greet
the visitor. It was only polite to personally receive a Weyrwoman from
another Weyr. Spotting Orlaith wasn't hard. She was large even for a gold
and such a striking colour too.
"Rhosyn, welcome to Dragonsfall Weyr. Orlaith, my duty to you and Yours,"
G'nir greeted and bowed to Orlaith.
The queen made a pleased rumble before she moved to lower herself and
position her leg so that her small rider could dismount. "Clear skies to
you, G'nir! Beautiful day here at Dragonsfall. Would have been great to do a
waterball match. Ah well." Using her straps to grab onto, she made her way
onto her dragon's foreleg. Then, instead of climbing down it, she just
waited as Orlaith lowered the leg-and Rhosyn-to the ground. Smiling at how
easy that was, she gave Orlaith's hide a good rub before turning to the
Weyrleader. "It seems I find myself upon your hospitality for a bit. And I
was hoping we might discuss a certain young bronzerider." Flicking her hazel
eyes from him to behind him, she noticed several weyrfolk had noticed her
queen's landing.
}:His name is Iroth. And he is well hatched.:{ Orlaith didn't probe further
since she didn't want to catch the hatchling's undue interest. Her rider's
desire was to leave the pair alone unless they came looking for answers. She
didn't understand it exactly since her instinct was to nurture hatchlings,
but she complied.
"We're glad to offer our hospitality," G'nir replied. "Vilarth is Rising,
isn't she?" He also gestured her to proceed him to the insides of the Weyr.
"I'll have refreshments brought to you in my office," he continued. On
sideways glance, he noticed that Nirreth had flown to join Orlaith and was
now busy trying to woo the River Bluff's Senior Gold. **You already have a
mate,** G'nir reminded him. **Chioneth may get jealous.** He was worried
that if Chioneth got jealous, she might choose someone else next time.
True to form, Orlaith picked out a spot on one of the common ledges and
allowed Nirreth to admire her beauty. She did imagine it was time to remind
Dragonsfall of her magnificence, after all. }:This is a nice Weyr. It is
much cooler than mine. My rider is thankful:{ Stretching her limbs and tail,
she subsided.
"Yes she is and hopefully we'll have another fine clutch on the way as do
you now. Your youngest queen did well I hear." Following along, Rhosyn took
note of where they were going so she could find her way back after they were
done. She was thankful for the offer of refreshments since she had left
rather quickly. Food was always welcome.
"Yes, we're very proud of Lissath," G'nir answered. He held the door open
for when they reached his office. "We're in the eighth Turn of the Pass and
finally all Weyrs seem to be at full strength," he said. There were enough
breeding queens to keep the Weyrs in full strength too. "So, you're
expecting to hear news from R'gelen. Do you want to meet the boy
personally?"
"Not yet I don't think. Maybe once he's out of weyrlinghood or a little
older. It'll be hard to explain why he's never met me before, you know?" She
sighed and tried not to think about the way her sister had acted at the
Hatching. "Is he doing well though? Adjusting to life here?"
"He's doing fine. Being younger than average weyrling, he's in bit of a
disadvantage with the training," G'nir replied. He gave Rhosyn an amused
expression and continued: "The boy took his dragon to dining cavern, to the
great dismay of the lower cavern staff. Of course, Iroth was still small at
that time. But I never seen or heard anybody else even get that idea."
She couldn't help it but something in her mind traveled to what a bronze
dragonet in a dining cavern would look like and she grinned. "Sounds
amusing. I imagine he probably does have some growing to do, though. Maybe
then it won't be as hard on him." **Although I never grew so maybe he
won't.**
"It's hard to stay angry with him when the boy is only 13," G'nir admitted.
"He seems to be intelligent though, so he'll learn from his mistakes."
"Do you want klah or something to eat?" G'nir, always the perfect host,
asked.
"Food's great." He had mentioned refreshments and she saw them now.
Dragonsfall tended toward heartier foods, which Rhosyn enjoyed. "Little bit
too warm for klah I think. How's everything else going?" Since River Bluff
and Dragonsfall shared a border and flew together sometimes, she was
actually comfortable with G'nir and asking questions about his wing
strength.
"Everything is going fine. We're preparing for Lissath's Hatching," G'nir
replied. "Other than that, we seem to have some sort of summer slump, pretty
much nothing except the routine is going on." For a Weyrleader, that was a
good thing. Non-routine usually meant some sort of crisis.
"Oh that's great and I bet the Hatching will be wonderful. Another
Dragonsfall Hatched queen laying her first clutch on the Sands here.
Probably very good for the morale." Nodding with a sage mind for those sorts
of things, Rhosyn smiled and thought of something else she'd meant to ask.
"Hey, so I need to setup some waterball matches with you people."
"Yes, we do," G'nir agreed. "Would you like to host the next match?" he
asked. "We are hosting a match against Vista Point Weyr in next restday."
"Sure, that's fine. I'll look at the threadfall charts and see when a good
day might be." Rhosyn smiled to herself. She hoped her old team would lose
for a few reasons but she didn't say that. "Oh? Are they any good now?"
"We have few new players, transfer-ins or recently graduated ones, who will
give your team a nasty surprise," G'nir said with smug grin.
"You might think that. You're forgetting one thing, though. I'm the goalie
and the captain and I hate to lose. Besides, I've got a lot of veterans and
we're pretty on top of our game." The truth was, Rhosyn wasn't trash
talking. She was honest. Her waterball team was probably one of the best in
the south. She was determined to prove it was the best, though.
"Well, that's why we have the games, to see who really is best," G'nir
replied, accepting the challenge.
