Description: Wing meeting where they discuss upcoming changes.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 2, day 10 of Turn 8
Walking into the room, Rhosyn had a pleased look on her face. Seeing her
wingriders filing into their places, she took her usual seat and
waited for Lenala and Lanniya to arrive. The youngest goldrider was
going to sit in on the meeting since it wouldn't be much longer till
she was joining them permanently if all went well. Rhosyn's
announcement would greatly affect her too, anyhow.
Lenala walked in, looking pale and exhausted. There were days when she
was almost normal and could forget she was pregnant. Then there was
days, like today, when nothing seemed to stay inside and she was so
very tired all the time. She nodded to Rhosyn, not feeling up to talk.
She took her seat and just stared the hides on the desk. She just felt bone
weary and sick.
Ciara put out a hand to Lenala. "Hey are you feeling alright?" She
pretty much guessed the goldrider was having issues with her pregnancy
and counted herself lucky that she didn't have those kinds of problems.
Riveenata filed in with the rest of the wing and gave a small smile across
the table to Lanniya. She knew what it was like to feel overwhelmed by
these meetings, having just graduated herself, so she wanted to support
the weyrling.
Lanniya sat back in her seat, glancing around and rhythmically bobbed her
foot, unable to keep still for long. She looked with sympathy at Lenala but
then glanced around at the rest of the wing, smiling as Riveenata sat
across from her.
"I'm having good days and bad days and today is, I'm afraid, a bad day,"
Lenala replied to Ciara with wan little smile. She was grateful for the
other woman's sympathy.
Uetia arrived. She had left her baby in the temporary care of someone else
and was already feeling restless and anxious. She wanted get back to her
baby. She nodded greetings before taking a seat. She also noted the changes in the
Wing that had happened during her absence.
Ready to begin, Rhosyn looked down at her agenda and started in. "Allright
everyone-for those of you who don't know already, Lenala is pregnant with her first
child. As such, she will be grounded once Vilarth is egg heavy, then may be able to fly
until she is unable. That means I will be without a wingsecond in the air for some time, but
we'll make the best of things. I'm used to her being grounded from time to time so we'll treat
it like that. She'll of course be taking on more of the ground duties so please see her for
those."
"We welcome Lanniya today. Lanniya hasn't yet graduated from weyrling
training but she'll be assisting Lenala with duties and then will likely begin to
assist me once she graduates while Lenala is grounded. We're sure that she and
Anaeryth will be a great addition to our wing." That was said with fervent hope since
Rhosyn needed another queen for many different reasons. **Please let her survive
Blooding.**
"Congratulations to both Ciara and Uetia on their recent births. Glad to see
you back, ladies. Uetia will be returning back to the fighting wings before too long
when the healers clear her." Rhosyn stopped and looked around. "I'll open the floor
with any concerns or questions."
Uetia gave Lenala a thorough look and smiled in congratulatory
fashion. Lenala acknowledged it with a weak nod. She didn't want to be
the target of their scrutiny.
Ciara smiled at the murmured congratulations and then grinned at Lanniya
in welcome. She liked the younger goldrider and they'd begun to form a
bit of a bond. Though it had been partially on hold while she was so
heavily pregnant.
Lanniya smiled brightly at everyone, then curled her feet under
herself to get comfortable. Would the meeting last very long? She knew
better than to ask anything like that. She'd done that once in class
and the response from the weyrlingmaster's assistant had been annoyed
at best.
After fielding a few questions, Rhosyn went on the next agenda item. "Fall
yesterday went very well. Only one thread burrow got through for the sweepriders
and groundcrew to mop up. I've got four riders going back to the fighting
wings this sevenday and we should be receiving three from the healers. Lanniya,
after you graduate we'll continue to rotate the wingthird position until you feel
completely comfortable with all those duties. Obviously it would make sense for you to
shadow those riders though. What do you think?"
Lenala wasn't thinking anything, she just wanted to go lay down.
Uetia was wishing _she_ could get a chance to try wingthird's position.
Lanniya glanced around and nodded. "That sounds good." It was a lot
more responsibility than she was used to, but it was part of what a
goldrider did, she supposed.
"Good. The only other thing I had to bring up..." Rhosyn trailed off after
she was done and she dismissed the meeting, staying to address individual concerns that
wingriders didn't want to bring up during the normal meeting. Hopefully this was all
going to work.
"If I'm not needed?" Lenala asked with weak voice, looking like she might
feel ill. "Excuse me," she swallowed and hurried out of the meeting room without
waiting for permission.
Uetia totally understood how she felt, although she hadn't been _that_ sick.
Riveenata listened closely to the meeting. Of course she wasn't going to qualify for
a wingthird's spot since she'd just graduated, but she wanted to be prepared for when
she eventually could, and closely observing the meeting would help that.
