Characters: R'gelen, A'kua
Description: A short chat, dragon and human alike.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 3, day 3 of Turn 8

He had moved out of the barracks but he still went there for lessons. They
were going to do flying drills so R'gelen flew down from the weyr. Iroth
landed quickly with a small thud then waited while his rider dismounted. R'gelen
was adjusting his trousers when he saw someone out of the corner of his
eye-someone he thought he knew.

"How on Pern did you manage to get such a mess on your face while still
getting so much food down your gullet?" A'kua was asking his dragon as he
scrubbed at the leathery skin.

}:I chewed,:{ Zeiranth said merrily, completely unperturbed by how hard the
washing had to be.

"Well, next time, don't plunge your nose in the bucket, and chew with your
mouth closed," A'kua scolded. "Nearly your entire muzzle is red."

}:I like red. It's like you,:{ Zeiranth said, and darted his head forward to
lovingly lip-nibble at A'kua's hair.

"Gah! Hey!" The young man jerked away and swatted at the baby bronze, only
to miss when Zeiranth ducked under his hand. "You little- oh! Ancients,
where did you come from?" he asked of R'gelen and Iroth.

R'gelen had been watching the scene, thinking of his own days not too long
ago dealing with dragonets who did silly things. His thoughts echoed in
Iroth's head and the bronze's eyes whirled a happy blue as they turned
toward him. Then he turned back to watch the much smaller Zeiranth.

"Ah well...we have wing drills today. Was going to check the chore roster
before heading over to the drill ground." R'gelen ran a hand through his own
curls that were now free of the helmet before nodding. "Iroth didn't stop
getting messy until he could hunt for himself." He meant it as a sympathetic
remark but it was also a reminder of how long A'kua might have to deal with
this.

The redhead sighed. "Great. It really is like bein' a father," he huffed.

Zeiranth bobbed his head at Iroth. }:Hi! I'm Zeiranth. This is A'kua. What
are wing drills like? Are they fun? Can I watch?:{ he asked of Iroth.

A'kua caught the thought and sternly said, "No. We have our own classes to
take care of in a few minutes, so let me finish."

}:Killjoy,:{ Zeiranth pouted.

}:I am Iroth and this is my rider.:{ Iroth had been different from Zeiranth
when he had been that young. He knew this because his rider was thinking
about those days. Still he liked the young bronze's enthusiasm. }:Wing
drills is when we have to fly in formation. If we get it wrong, we have to
do it over and over till we get it right or we are tired. They are not
fun.:{ He didn't answer the watching question since he was sure Zeiranth
probably wouldn't want to anyway. }:I like flying but not in drills.:{

"Yeah it kinda is until they are full grown. I see it as him growing while I
am growing too. So at the end of it all we will both be grown together." Of
course A'kua was older than him so it was a bit different. "It gets better
though, promise. And at least you always have someone who understands you
and is on your side."

}:Maybe they're not fun, but they sound amazing,:{ Zeiranth said. }:A'kua,
when can we do wing drills?:{

"When you're older," A'kua said, and grabbed the bronze's chin to physically
turn his head back, and started washing again. "Now hold still, I'm almost
done." Then he added to R'gelen, "Can I get out of the parenting thing when
he's an adolescent, at least?"

"Not really. If you do, he'll get you into trouble. Like when I let Iroth
follow me into the Dining Cavern." He wrinkled his face, wondering if the
other weyrling had heard about that. Maybe not.

Iroth had really done that? That was a great idea! }:A'kua, can I-:{

"_No,_" A'kua said sternly.

}:Awwww. You're no fun.:{

"How come you keep talking to him...out loud? I mean....I usually just talk
to Iroth in my head." It was a lot easier and faster. R'gelen had found that
it actually strengthened the bond as well since they would have to
communicate like that when they started flying Threadfall anyway.

A'kua gave R'gelen a funny look. Why did he care if other riders spoke aloud
to their partners? "Habit," was all he said on the subject as he checked
over his dragon's face for any spots he might have missed.

}:I like hearing him talk,:{ Zeiranth told Iroth. }:But I like hearing him
sing even more. Does your rider sing?:{

}:No. My rider was learning how to make wine before he Impressed. He does
other things too:{ Iroth really didn't mind that R'gelen didn't sing. His
rider had been a farmer before going to the vintnerhall. R'gelen was
remarkably simple and hardworking. That was what he needed.

"Yeah when you start flying...it's easier the other way. Cause you can't
hear over the wind. And shouting all the time would hurt your throat." He
remembered A'kua had been a harper so surely that wouldn't be good for him.

"Well, I'll worry about it when we start flyin'," A'kua said. "Not before."
Satisfied with the job, he crouched with his boots touching the water and
started rinsing out the washrag as best he could.

}:What's wine? How is it made?:{ Zeiranth asked, trying to stall now that
the time to go to the next class was coming up.

}:It's something the two leggers drink. Long process to make it. Something
with fruit.:{ Iroth didn't dig further into R'gelen's memories since it didn't
interest him.

"Well we have to get going, but good luck and see you around." The small
weyrling headed off in the direction of the practice field with his dragon
following him. They were a motley pair but Iroth was all the protection he
needed.

}:Wait, don't go!:{ Zeiranth protested, taking two steps after the pair. }:I
haven't asked what it was like to go into the dining cavern!:{

Without looking, A'kua reached behind him and caught the tip of Zeiranth's
tail in his right hand. "Get back here. We still have to go to class."

}:Awwwww!:{
