A Review Meeting

Writers: Avery, Chelle
Date Posted: 19th December 2015

Characters: Riveenata, Rhosyn
Description: Rhosyn reviews one of her wingriders.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 3, day 12 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Lenala, Lanniya, Y'gel, F'lin

This was the good part of her job. Putting the last bit of cake into her mouth, Rhosyn leaned back in her seat and waited for the greenrider to arrive. She had
chosen wisely and it pleased her. Besides, right now without Lenala flying it was good to have everything falling into place.

Riveenata tried to ignore the apprehension coiling in her stomach as she went to report in. Had she and Savith done something wrong? They'd been feeling so confident. **It's probably just a normal meeting,**
she tried to reassure herself. Maybe Rhosyn was the kind of wingleader who checked in on her riders frequently.

She knocked on the door to the Weyrwoman's office and waited to be bid entry.

"Come in, Riveenata." Rhosyn was comfortable. She had juice and rolls and was trying to get through the reports she needed to make notes on before heading to evening meal.

The greenrider shuffled in and took a seat in the chair, inclining her head properly. "Weyrwoman, my duty to Orlaith."

"How are you and Savith?" Of course she had the greenrider's latest fitness report somewhere so she knew, but she asked out of politeness. She swept her
hand to include the juice and rolls if the young rider wanted any.

"We're doing well. She likes flying near the golds and watching them - I think she's trying to impress with her agility." Savith did seem very interested in making sure everyone saw her, and she wasn't due for
another flight.

"Well I want to say I noticed you two haven't had a single mistake in the last five wing drills. You're working very hard and I appreciate it. I'm very glad to have you in my wing." Rhosyn smiled, offering her thanks and respect to her rider.

That wasn't what Riven had expected. She'd been afraid they'd done something wrong. Relief caused her to breathe out. "I didn't realize we'd done that well. Thank you, ma'am!"

"You're welcome and you deserve it. Once you complete a full turn, I would actually say you could try your hand at learning some of the wingthird duties if you were interested." She was gauging Riveenata's reaction, wondering if that was an avenue she wanted to pursue.

That led to the greenrider sitting up straighter in the chair. She was interested, of course - F'lin's promotion had reminded her that she was ambitious - but she'd thought that her lack of experience despite
her age would mean Turns and Turns of waiting. But maybe the queen's wing worked somewhat differently. "I would _absolutely_ be interested, Weyrwoman."

Rhosyn's wingriders tended to rotate a lot more often than the fighting wings. So she had to hedge her bets by making sure she had enough to complete the duties if the time came. Nodding to herself, she made a small
note in Riveenata's file. "Is there anything else that interests you or that you particularly enjoy?"

Conscious that her answer was likely going to reflect on what she received as her assignments, she took a moment to reflect before answering. Complaining about any duties she didn't enjoy wouldn't get her any points
with the Weyrwoman. And she desperately wanted to earn points, after the nice opportunity that had just been alluded to.

"I know the Queen's Wing deals with the Infirmary and the injured more than the other wings due to its unique composition. And my Healing background is something you can use. I've been helping with Fall
response, but I was wondering if you want me to take a shift there. Or if there's any other way I can help you interfacing with them."

Maybe the Weyrwoman got so many infirmary reports she didn't have time for them. Or maybe she was just fine and the greenrider was overstepping.

"Just like any other wing, my new riders wait a turn before crafting in any capacity after your wing duties are over. It's a thought for when that time comes. Basically, because of the unique position this wing is in-we have regular meetings with the Weyrhealer and the Weyrdragonhealer. I myself have dragonhealer training and am very familiar with that side of things. It wouldn't hurt if I did have someone in wing leadership later that had healer training to be familiar with that side of things, though I have picked up quite a bit myself over the turns."

When she was old enough and had enough experience, Lanniya would serve as wingthird in the queens' wing. That would be some time later, though. Until then while she was learning, Rhosyn could use someone. And Riveenata was older, had the craft knowledge, and could be useful once she and Savith had the experience.

Riveenata listened carefully to the answer. The waiting period made sense, though it was a bit disappointing because she liked to be useful. Then
again, Rhosyn had said the words 'wing leadership' again, and it was exciting.

"Feel free to let me know if you ever need my background, I just want to serve as best I can," she said earnestly.

"Oh I have it will in mind what skills you have. It's one of the reasons why I chose you." She let that sink in as she made a few notes in Riveenata's record hide.
