Volaith was still at the Hatching Grounds, keeping an eye on the eggs and trying to soothe Vilarth. As a bronze he couldn't make her calm down, but as her mate he could reassure her that the eggs would be safe, and reassure her
that his rider was looking after hers.
A'kades hadn't wanted to leave the Infirmary after they'd gotten there. Jadirah hadn't let him back to the room where they were treating Lenala. So he'd stayed in the waiting area, occasionally rising up to pace back and forth in the halls. Once an apprentice brought him some food and some water. But he didn't leave even as the sun came up. He would be there until they let him see her - or until Volaith told him that Vilarth knew she was gone. The other weyrlingstaff could handle the weyrlings preparing. He had this duty.
Rhosyn had been stationed in the infirmary herself. Someone had woken Solieira or somebody because the Weyrwoman was brought food, klah, and a blanket after some time had passed. She took it as normal treatment and didn't question it. She did watch the healers though, waiting for the news
that had better come soon. As a trained dragonhealer, she was respectful and knew they needed to work but this was affecting the entire Weyr and she needed to know how to handle it. When a healer came forward, she saw the beckoning and walked up.
Jadirah had taken five minutes to wash off sweat and blood and change into something not stained, but then she hurried out to the waiting area. She knew from long experience A'kades would be there waiting, and she wanted to let him know he could at least go to sleep for a bit. She was mildly
surprised to see Rhosyn there as well, but it made sense the senior Weyrwoman wanted updates as quickly as possible. She gestured at them both to follow her.
A'kades sat upright quickly when he saw Jadirah walk out. He couldn't quite tell from her calm expression what was going on. As he followed her into a smaller room, he swayed slightly on his feet.
The Healer led them to a small room with a cot and four chairs. She perched on the cot, and once the riders were seated, started talking.
"The good news is, Lenala's alive." They'd probably figured that out from Vilarth but it didn't hurt to point it out again. "We were able to stop the bleeding before it killed her. The child was lost. I don't recommend trying again soon," she directed at A'kades.
"She's in a very deep sleep right now, which is important for her body to heal. I don't want her interrupted, and I know there will be gawkers, so I'll probably station an apprentice to chase people off."
Rhosyn headed in, padding on small feet, but eager to hear. When Jadirah started to speak, she remained quiet, concerned obviously and hoping for the best. "Do whatever you need for her comfort and if you need to, you can use
my order to keep her from being bothered or to get anything required. I....will she be allright in the future?" **Had anything been irrevocably damaged inside?**
"Thank you for the permission, Weyrwoman. That will certainly help us keep her safe," the Healer said.
As for the second question, she sighed. "There was blood and tearing. Though that can happen in a successful delivery as well. We've seen worse before. It's a little too early to tell right now. Things might heal themselves back to where they were before. Just how some riders get
more extensive scarring and impairment from a Threadscore and others with a similar one take less, different women have different levels of bounce-back. Watching how she heals will tell us more."
A'kades hissed out a breath. If he'd contributed to rendering Lenala permanently damaged...
Jadirah turned her head to look at him. "There was no way you could have known this was going to be high-risk. Lenala is somewhat old for a first child compared to many Southern women, but isn't old enough for it to have been a serious concern."
Rhosyn couldn't concern herself with A'kades' guilt. That was something he was going to have to deal with on his own. She couldn't help but think about the similarities between her own recent pregnancy and Lenala's but how different they
both had gone. Part of her hoped that Lenala would not be angry at her because she had a healthy child she didn't care to raise. "How long do you think it will be until we
know?" There probably wasn't a timeframe to know how long Lenala was going to grounded for. It was too soon. But she could take as long as she needed. Rhosyn would deal with it.
"This isn't like the easier miscarriages a greenrider might
have when she /betweens/ early," the Healer said. "It will take some time for recovery. At minimum of two sevendays before I would clear her for riding-related duties, probably three. It depends on if any more bleeding occurs and how she recovers. After two sevendays, she could go
back to light duty like hidework or arbitration."
The second question was a bit harder to answer. "We won't know about long-term damage for at least a month. A lot will depend on how she heals internally. The rest will be her own mental state."
"She'll be on light duty till she's cleared of course. Do you think, though...that she'll be ready?" Of course it was all conjecture as far as Lenala's mental state and that was something that made Rhosyn nervous. That could seriously derail things but she also didn't want her friend to suffer either.
"To come back to her duties to her dragon and the Weyr?" Jadirah asked. "I plan on setting her up with a mindhealer. I can have them pass the report on."
"Definitely." Rhosyn herself had never officially seen one, but her talks with Reeva had helped to explain things when she was going through her own problems after the pregnancy was over. "A'kades, I'm going to rest since we have fall
tomorrow. If you're staying I can let the Weyrlingmaster know. Jadirah, if anything changes...send someone to come get me." Her eyes swept over the healer, hoping she understood the silent directive. If Lenala took a turn, she needed to know.
"I would like to stay here till she wakes. So please, let him know," A'kades told Rhosyn. He could have gone back to work if he'd had to, but being able to stay would reassure him.
Once that was handled, Jadirah spoke. "I promise, Weyrwoman. There are runner drudges and riders around, we'll get you word as soon as anything happens," the healer said.
Nodding, Rhosyn sighed and looked down at her feet before rubbing her face. "Allright, I'll be back later once I wake up to get a status report before threadfall."
