Hopefully reinforcements were on the way. Sitting there in the
infirmary while clutching her klah, Rhosyn was trying not to think
about the risk she had taken when she herself had been pregnant.
Luckily nothing like this had ever happened. Orlaith was dealing with
Vilarth and she was waiting for any news from the healers who didn't
seem to be in any hurry to come forth with any. Hopefully,
the Weyr wouldn't panic. She had done her best to get Vilarth under
control quickly. Orlaith had let them know the situation was being
handled. Still, her mind went to someone who might have woken
up by now.
}:Anaeryth, I am with Vilarth. It is fine. My rider is in the
infirmary with hers. If yours wishes to report she can find her there.
My rider would like for her to sleep, though:{
After all, they had threadfall tomorrow. Preparations would need to be
overseen in the morning for the wing and the Weyr. Solieira could do
some of it but Rhosyn had duties of her own. And if she was half dead
without sleep, some of those might have to fall to Lanniya.
Lanniya-who had only been graduated less than a sevenday. There was
also the fact that Solieira and the rest of the Weyr, along with the
goldriders, had been preparing for the eggs to Hatch any day now.
Her eyes opened in horror when she thought she might have heard
humming. **No no..it wasn't.** She saw a firelizard that was headed
somewhere. Perhaps a baby had been born. Lenala's wasn't old enough
yet, though, was it? She stood up and walked over to the healers
again, very cross in her nightgown lest they hadn't told her of this
development. At least her hair was plaited properly.
}: Mine is already coming down. :{ With the uproar from all of the
dragons, there had been no possible way for her rider to have slept
through it. }: Do you need my assistance with Vilarth? :{
Lanniya appeared in the infirmary, her clothes rumpled and her hair
brushed at, but in a bit of a disarray. Her eyes were sleepy, but
concerned, face pinched. "What's happening?"
}:I am fine. She will not leave the eggs.:{ Orlaith would have to rest sometime, though. Hopefully, Lenala's safety could be assured at some point to
calm Vilarth. Otherwise, Anaeryth wouldn't be able to calm the older queen. Rhosyn would have to ask for help. At the moment, she was dealing with the situation at hand with her Wingsecond.
Seeing Lanniya, the Weyrwoman sighed. Putting her arm around the young girl,
she led her into an alcove safe from so many ears. "Lenala's having a
problem with the baby. If her body won't keep it, it won't live. The healers are trying to save the both of them. She's unconscious now, but stable. The blood loss, though...They're watching her. And then I know she's not going to be okay when she wakes if the baby doesn't...." Her face said it all. It was hard for Rhosyn to completely relate but she wasn't devoid of emotion entirely.
Lanniya's face immediately reflected her concern. "Oh no..." She bit
her lower lip. "No wonder Vilarth is so upset. What can I do to help?"
"Orlaith is handling Vilarth. If you....I can't leave here. We do have threadfall tomorrow so maybe you could sort of fill what would normally be Lenala's role and make sure all of our wingriders understand that everything is being handled and that the eggs are safe. We will need to be ready for tomorrow. I'll speak to everyone then." Her eyes traveled around the infirmary, thinking. "Some of them may have questions. If you feel comfortable answering them, then please do. If not, let them know we're working on it and not to worry. We can't have the Weyr in a panic and not rested tomorrow."
"Lanniya...this is going to mean...I may need your help a bit more than I had bargained for in the coming sevendays. I know it's a lot and very soon but...feel free to tell me if I'm asking too much of you, allright?" **Hopefully I can work through this. Maybe Lenala will be allright. And there are others that could do a bit more...**
Nodding slowly, her face set in concern, but she was uncertain as to
how much she could really accomplish or what help she could be.
"Okay. I can do my best."
"I'm going to stay here and wait for word on her condition. I'll talk
to everyone in the morning when I really know something. Could you do me a favor and fill up both of our flamethrowers tomorrow?" If that slipped her mind in the process, it would be a bad thing.
"Of course. Do I need to do anything else? Check on Vilarth? Or maybe A'kades?"
"They brought something to him. I think he's just waiting like me. You
can ask though. As far as Vilarth, you can listen, but tread lightly. She's still very upset though Orlaith has gotten her quiet. It's taking quite a bit since a gold sitting on eggs is even more volatile than on a normal day." Rhosyn didn't mention whether or not it was putting a strain on her queen but it was clear that the Weyrwoman was feeling the tension between the bond and stressing over the situation itself.
"So what can I do right now?"
"You can do whatever you want to," came the simple answer. Rhosyn would prefer
that she went to sleep soon though. "Very likely there are several weyrfolk gathering in the Dining Cavern. You might check on them." The sight of any
goldrider, even Lanniya, might help calm them. In a way, they were symbols of hope-all was not lost.
Lanniya shifted on her feet. She was tired, but keeping Anaeryth calm
took enough of her energy that she doubted she'd be able to go back to
sleep. "I'll check on them."
"Thank you. I'll see you tomorrow if nothing changes." Rhosyn huddled into
her blanket, trying not to think about what she would have to deal with if Lenala wasn't allright-what that could mean for her and everyone else.
