G'wen glanced up from his book, hearing the familiar ruffle in the next room that could only be Feral popping out of 'between' to curl up in bed with Dusk, his own bronze flit. He sighed, feeling more than a bit sorry for himself. With the loss of the Weyrlingmaster, E'naer had been busy with the weyrlings. Too busy. It didn't help that one of them, that bluerider F'nix, was good looking enough to catch his weyrmate's eye. G'wen sighed again, shutting his book. Those feelings never did a boy any good. If Feral was next door that could only mean that maybe, just maybe, E'naer was coming to the weyr as well.
E'naer was heading home, carrying few meatrolls and cup of klah with him. They were today's only meal for him. With two classes of weyrlings and the Weyrling wing understaffed, he didn't even have time for meal breaks. "G'wen! I'm home," he called when he stepped inside.
G'wen bounced off the sofa and scampered over to E'naer's side, reaching up for a kiss. "I've missed you."
"I've missed you too. Shards, what a day! Watch out for the hot klah," E'naer replied. Having no free hand, his return kiss was bit awkward. The difference in height didn't help.
Rather than dodge it, G'wen just took the klah off the tray. It couldn't fall or burn him that way. "Yeah, what happened?" he asked as he walked over to the table to place the drink down.
"One of the weyrlings twisted an ankle, one the younger dragonets had indigestion and then there was a dead tunnelsnake, which I'm not supposed to know anything about since the persons involved didn't tell to the Staff," E'naer listed out. He fell down to the sofa.
G'wen pored out a cup of klah and handed it to E'naer before sitting down close to him. "Any word on when they're going to get a new Weyrlingmaster?"
"No, I wish they'll find one fast, We can't keep going like this for much longer. We get burned out," E'naer replied with frustrated sigh. "Chioneth has Risen, so there will be another class soon enough."
G'wen pulled a face. "Well, I don't understand why they feel the post has to go to a bronze rider then. if no one's willing to take it, I know more than a few green and blue riders who would be brilliant at the job."
}:I would do it.:{ Neath peered in to eye the two men.
"She says she would do it." G'wen nodded to Neath's great wedge shaped head and grinned at E'naer.
"She probably could do it," E'naer answered, grinning at the thought of Neath bossing around young bronzes. "She's too young though," he continued, which sounded much better than she's just green.
Neath snorted loud enough that it created a breeze. G'wen raised an eyebrow to E'naer, letting him know exactly what she thought of E'naer's words. "Did you want anymore food? There's some fruit and cheese on the table." Those few meatrolls didn't look like nearly enough.
"I probably should have more," E'naer replied. He had somehow made the meatrolls disappear without noticing it.
G'wen smiled and went to fetch the food. He batted the flits off E'naer as he laid the food on his weyrmate's lap. "We can have a hot bath after you finished and I can give your shoulders a rub." He smiled again, and traced his fingers over E'naer's cheek. "You_do_ look so tired, love."
"That's sounds wonderful, my love," E'naer replied.
G'wen smiled and retreated to the back of the sofa to begin doing just that as E'naer finished off the fruit and cheese. There was a particularly hard knot in the man's right shoulder. "You've been doing too much paperwork," he muttered as he began working to loosen it.
"I know," E'naer said. He sighed with contentment when G'wen's fingers worked on his muscles. "I don't know what I would do without you."
"Really? cos you've been giving that F'nix the once over." The words and the hurt behind them slipped out before G'wen could stop them. He clamped his hand over his mouth but it was too late to take it back.
"Oh, come on, he's junior weyrling. Like I would do anything. Besides, he kind of reminds me of you. Except he's taller," E'naer replied. "You sure you're not secret brothers or something?"
G'wen shook his head. "I...well, I don't think so." could his dad have had a woman at one of the Halls? It wasn't something G'wen had ever thought about before.
"I won't sleep with him, not unless his dragon catches Eillie during mating flight" E'naer assured him. He took one of G'wen's hands and kissed his palm. "It's you I love."
G'wen gave the knot a painful poke. "Don't forget it then." His voice was teasing.
"I won't," E'naer promised, his voice turning husky.
From that tone, G'wen knew E'naer was no longer thinking of food or weyrlings. Reaching down, he gave E'naer's hand a tug. "Fancy a bath?"
"Only if you join me there," E'naer replied.
"Oh, but of course." G'wen's grin was mischievous as he led a willing E'naer to the baths.
