A Temporary Weyrleader

Writers: Chelle, Heather, Yvonne
Date Posted: 15th February 2016

Characters: Rhosyn, F'lin, K'lvin
Description: The leadership shifts to cover the hole.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 3, day 25 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: K'sedel

After seeing K'sedel in the Infirmary and realizing most of the rest of the
Weyr was still recovering from the Fall itself, Rhosyn went to the
Wingleader meeting room. It was closer than her own situation room off her
weyr. Better to get things taken care of as soon as possible. And anyway,
the healers had been pretty clear.

}:Xmrenth, Seneth-mine wishes to speak with yours as soon as possible. She
is in the leader room:{ Orlaith broadcast before she went back to standing
guard over Nikornath while he rested. The healers had done their work with
him as well already.

Throwing her jacket off and setting it on one of the empty chairs, Rhosyn
took her usual one as she considered the possibilities and realized what
might happen and what might not happen.

K'lvin had expected that a meeting would be necessary when Xmrenth had
informed him of the Weyrleader's injury. The Wingleader had taken time to
wash the ash and dust off before heading to the meeting room.

"Weyrwoman," he inclined his head to Rhosyn as he took his seat.

F'lin came in a moment later, but he was still in his crackdust covered
riding leathers and his hair was sticking up in the back from his helmet.
But he was smiling. K'sedel's injury had meant that he was the one to finish
leading the Fall after the Weyrleader had to land. Despite the
circumstances, he was proud of himself and his wingriders-- and all the
riders in the Weyr who had adapted to the sudden change so well.

He was also pretty sure that he knew what the meeting was about. He'd done
the rounds of the Infirmary after the Fall and spent a little time with
K'sedel, who, even in his drugged state, had given him a pretty good idea of
what direction the wind would blow. "Weyrwoman," he said to Rhosyn, and
nodded a greeting to K'lvin.

"Gentlemen...as both of you know K'sedel is injured. He'll be unable to fly
for some time until the healers clear him. He may be able to do some of his
hidework and those sorts of things in a few sevendays, but we're not sure of
that either. So it presents with a situation that sometimes happens during a
Pass." She took a breath. Rhosyn wasn't one to beat around a bush.
"Normally, F'lin would be the one to step up and fill the position. While I
have no doubts that you can lead the Wing, F'lin, I'm not sure if you're
ready to take on the entire Weyr." She remembered their earlier conversation
and hoped he understood her. "So we were thinking for the time being until
he recovers-F'lin you can lead Rapids, but if K'lvin is willing since he is
senior wingleader, he would be acting Weyrleader. I understand that leaves
you without a Wingsecond, F'lin, so you might need to look at some of your
wingriders for potential." She shifted in her seat, hoping this matter might
be handled easily. Bronzeriders weren't terribly easygoing but this was a
duty situation. They had to do what was best for the Weyr.

F'lin smiled, but it was more of a grimace. "I spoke with K'sedel just before
I came here. He said as much to me as well." Nobody liked to be told that they
weren't good enough and the pride he'd felt at leading the Weyr through the
second half of the Fall was ebbing away. **But the Weyr comes first.** He
only hoped that the Rapids wingriders would be so forgiving. They were the
best of the Weyr, the fastest and bravest, and had been demoted from their
place of pride as the first Wing into the Fall because of him. **They're going to hate
me.** He turned to K'lvin. "I'm happy to lend whatever support I can, especially
with the hidework over the next few sevendays. We have... about a month at
minimum to get through before Orlaith rises," he said, glancing at Rhosyn for
confirmation, "and up to two or three maximum until K'sedel is cleared to return
to the skies."

K'lvin felt no fear about being asked to be Acting Weyrleader, he'd been in this
long enough to know what to do, as did his Wing. "I will do what the Weyrwoman
and Weyrleader think best. Torrent Wing stands ready."

"If K'sedel heals enough, he should be able to do hidework in a few sevendays."
If she knew that man, he would be. "Flying is another matter entirely." At least
the both of them had agreed easily. That was one less worry. "As far as Orlaith,
if she stays on schedule-perhaps." That was something she didn't always bet on.
And it didn't bear thinking that Nikornath might not have his wing well enough to
fly. "Fair enough gentlemen. I'll leave it to you to let your wings know. We'll tell
the Weyr at evening meal tonight after everyone's had a chance to recover from
Fall and get some food in their bellies." Rhosyn watched them both, seeing
the change in F'lin. He was young yet, though. Still if Seneth ever caught...

The younger bronzerider nodded. "The Weyr is in good hands." And he'd keep
Rapids ready for when K'sedel could take to the skies again.
