Characters: Rhosyn, K'ran
Description: Rhosyn and K'ran have dinner together.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 4, day 21 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Solieira, Bryvin, Relik, K'sedel, U'das, K'reyel, Saibra; Takes place after Orlaith's flight
After quite a bit of lounging and resting, it had been apparent that
they couldn't spend the entire day holed up, even if it was raining.
Much to her utmost annoyance, Rhosyn agreed to leave the mating cots.
Since there really wasn't anywhere to go, she led K'ran to her
weyr. Using her personal bathing pool, she helped him clean up.
Finding clean clothes from stores to offer him with the help of a drudge,
she got dressed herself. "Allright, are you prepared for dinner,
Weyrleader?" She was going to have to get him some knots.
K'ran didn't answer immediately. He was still getting used to the fact
that the title was his, and referred to him. It would take awhile
before responding to it felt natural to him, just like how it had
taken some time for Wingleader to feel like a title he deserved.
}:We do deserve this,:{ Rogueth reminded him, content in his proving
of his superior skill.
"Ah, yes," he said, reminded he hadn't answered. "I find I am rather hungry."
She led him through the Weyr to the Dining Cavern. It didn't take long to
reach the head table she usually sat down at. The room became quiet, but
Rhosyn didn't address the curious looks. The people knew what had happened
by then so there was no sense in making an announcement. Besides, let them
be curious for a bit longer. "So what do you like to eat? We get a lot
of fish here."
"I'm a fan of fish, I've spent enough time at tropical Weyrs.
Dragonsfall of course doesn't get much. That lovely pale fish with the
soft sweet taste is a good one."
"Aw well that's good then. Lot of fish. Of course Garnet Valley sends other
good meat too-wherry, herdbeast, and that sort of thing. Nice having a large
territory with different climates." Of course it meant having to know how to
fight threadfall in different conditions. If K'ran had been all those places, then
he should. **Allright Orlaith, maybe you knew what you were doing, you
sly thing.**
}:I always know what I am doing. What did I do?:{
**You may have gotten us a Weyrleader I like to look at and that can fly well.**
}:You said he flew you well enough:{
**I meant through Fall!**
}:Oh that too is good then:{
With a smug noise, her dragon subsided in her mind, still satisfied from the
Flight earlier. She was oblivious to all the bronze disgruntlement in the Weyr
around her. She was their Queen, after all. She was the one that mattered.
"I agree with you on climate variety. As much as I enjoyed Ista, it
was all tropical lands. Dragonsfall had some mountainous and some
plains. But River Bluff has multiple seaholds and mountain holds,
which is nice."
He was familiar with their mountainous area more than anywhere else,
since that was generally the border along which they flew jointly.
When there was food in front of them, she sat back and began to cut and spice
everything the way she liked it. "Eventually I'm going to need to take you to meet
our Lord Holders and Masters. They'll be anxious. But there's plenty of time for that.
Let you figure out the Weyr before you figure them out."
"We could visit them to reassure after a sevenday or so?" he guessed.
It would be easier to limit the number of new people he was meeting
all at once.
"Sure. Bryvin is still busy cleaning up and dealing with the homeless in
his holding. As are we. The others are fine now, though. Well besides
Master Relik." She frowned at the thought of the seacraft hall. Then again
if anyone could manage to get that place in some kind of shape, it was
probably the old Master.
"I know your inland holds like Garnet Valley weren't hit at all, and
it sounds like Jade Harbor or Turquoise Bay are fine too. Master Relik
is the Seacraft Master?" he asked.
"Aye he is. An older fellow though still has young children. He's about
the same as K'sedel and U'das turns wise." Rhosyn was secretly wondering
if Bryvin would foot the bill for the hall's rebuilding this time or if Relik would
have to work it out himself for some of the expense. That was not really any of
her concern, though.
"Ah, I see. I hope he'll be able to rebuild, a strong Seacraft is very
important to the South."
"Indeed. The people are scattered right now, so it's going to make it harder.
Seafolk are hardy though. They'll figure it out." Thinking on that, she decided
to inquire along those lines. "And what sort of folk do you come from?"
"My father was a guard and my brother and I were both guards. I worked
caravans, traveling with traders before I Impressed. I've always loved
to travel and meet new people," K'ran said.
"Oh well lots of new people to meet now." She chuckled at her dry humor and then
started to eat, going quiet for awhile. When she had put enough down her gullet to
satisfy her, she put down the fork for a bit. He wasn't weyrbred. That would be
different. "So did you ever have any dreams of being Weyrleader? And if you did,
what did you want to do as one?"
"I think every bronzerider dreams of it a few times once they realize
they can," he said with a chuckle. "Before Thread returned, when we
were having the population rise, my ambition was to lead Ista to
victory in the Weyr games. Then Thread started falling and the games
didn't seem quite as important as they used to."
"No, not really." **He's easy to talk to.** "So are you sleeping in your weyr
or mine or what tonight? Cause I think yours is clean by now but it might be
good to let you know about some things before tomorrow. Especially since we
have threadfall." She didn't mind either way. It had been a long time since
Rhosyn had brought a man into her weyr. And his response might hint at what
the future might bring.
"I think I'll head back to Dragonsfall to make a final report to the
leaders there and get the weyr there packed up first." He didn't want
the leaders to think he was shirking the remnants of those responsibilities.
"As for tonight, If you're offering, I'm happy to take you up on it,"
he said. "That information sounds valuable, and we can continue to get
to know each other."
"I could go with you if you want. I know Saibra and K'reyel well." If
it was something he needed to do, then he could go alone, but she thought
to offer. Besides, she liked getting out of the hot every now and again. If
not, she needed to go talk to a few people like Solieira to make sure the
weyr was furnished with the right things now that she knew where he was
from. "If not, I'll see you later."
"I think I'll be fine. I have one extra stop to make while I'm there,
so I wouldn't want to hold you up, and I'm sure there's a lot for you
to do here, like reassuring anyone who may be questioning," he said.
"But I appreciate the offer, and look forward to returning swiftly. As
does Rogueth."
}:Yes. I will not be away long,:{ the bronze reassured his new golden mate.
