Not one to expect anything, she had put food and drink in the table in
her small meeting area off the weyr. She had also made sure to get
fresh bedding for her bed, just in case. Rhosyn had Fall tomorrow
though so she needed sleep. That in mind, she was walking around in a
light gown that was more comfortable than showy. Sitting on the sofa,
she sipped some water.
}:We return to you,:{ Rogueth said to Orlaith as they came from
/between/ back to River Bluff. He bugled a greeting to the watchdragon
and surveyed the domain - his domain, now - as he spiraled down for a
landing. He was impatient to have the boxes removed so he could
reunite with the marvelous queen.
K'ran took the boxes off of Rogueth as fast as he could, allowing a
volunteering drudge to assist with unstrapping them. Rogueth leapt up
to find Orlaith as soon as he was freed of the burdens, while his
rider and the drudge was occupied moving them. When that task was
done, he made his way to Rhosyn's weyr.
"Apologies that that took a bit," he said, running a hand through his
hair. River Bluff and Dragonsfall were in the same timezone so he
didn't have that to worry about, but it had still taken some time to
make all the legs of the trip he'd had to make to discharge
responsibilities.
"No problem." She got up and pointed to the food. Likely he might want
a little something after all that work. Making an assumption she poured him
wine instead of water like she was drinking. "I trust it went well?" He
didn't look overly upset so maybe it had. And anyway, he was a dragonrider
so he could still see his family anytime he wanted.
"There were a few conversations I had to have this evening. The formal
goodbye to the Weyrleader, letting my Wingsecond know, and then saying
goodbye to Genna. There's a few more I really should have, but they
can wait for restdays."
He knew he'd have to focus on new responsibilities. But a few trips to
visit friends now and then would happen. Especially considering his
emotional attachments.
**Genna. I like her, but why would he be saying goodbye to her?** Rhosyn
turned and considered K'ran. She wasn't a stupid woman, though, and it was
easy to figure out. **So he likes little girls hm? Fine. Might have to
watch him around Lanniya. Faranth.**
"Well as far as things here...There's a bit of a dynamic." She paused to
let him settle in. It was quite possible he'd want to take notes anyway.
Handing the wine in his direction, she led the way to the table and chairs and sat
down, sipping her water.
K'ran took the glass of wine, picked up a piece of fruit, and settled
down. "What type of dynamic?" he asked.
"Old guard and new guard. Old guard are your people like K'sedel,
U'das, Solieira, and even A'kades who have been here forever. Then
you have new guard like myself, K'lvin, Lenala, and the rest who haven't
been around as long. F'lin's legacy here since he's Tsaera's grandson. So
you'll probably have an easier time of it with the new guard." She hadn't
had to worry about it overmuch since they had needed her at the time and
Orlaith couldn't be argued with. K'ran had absolute authority now, but
he'd need support.
He did reach for a piece of hide then, to note down a few names. "Do
you think the old guard is likely to be more reactionary about having
a new upstart coming into the Weyr, compared to the new guard?"
"Some of them might. U'das won't. People like M'galec would." She shuddered.
"Honestly I kept hoping K'sedel would transfer him out, but he never did."
"I'll be sure to keep an eye out for him." That definitely sounded
like a potential problem. "Some of those names are rankers, I think.
What role is Tsaera's grandson playing?"
"F'lin was serving as K'sedel's wingsecond for a bit. Then when K'sedel
was hurt... he's been leading Rapids for almost a month now. I think he'll
be allright. He just wants to keep his job. I like him." Of course her
opinion didn't always matter in the manner of wingleaders but as one
herself, she did notice things.
"So he's been leading Rapids and no one's complained? They'll need
stability right now, so I'll keep him on for at least a month," K'ran
said. No point in changing it under them right now, and he didn't know
who he'd be compatible with as a wingsecond. Might as well give the
man with the job time to see if they worked together well, and if they
didn't then he could work on seeing if someone else matched up.
"Mmm. D'ren is young but Menanth has caught Vilarth once. I don't know
if he wants to learn. Might be good as a wingthird for Torrent. L'airev might
be one to talk to, as well. He's been here awhile too. I'm training Lanniya.
Otherwise, that's really most of the folk to pay attention to for now."
Rhosyn paused, trying to see what he thought and if he had questions.
He thought he had all the names down. "D'ren was from Dolphin Cove,"
K'ran remembered. "Giving him a chance is a good idea. How's Lanniya
settling in with your wing?"
"Well, it hasn't been that long. Plus we had the added complication of Lenala
being unable to work so Lanniya had more duties than she would have had. I'm
still trying to figure out what she's best at though eventually she's
going to have to learn how to do it all just in case." Rhosyn's brow wrinkled.
"Lenala had had a problem just before her Hatching, yes? Is she doing
better now?" he asked. "I'm glad it sounds like Lanniya was able to
step in."
"She had a miscarriage," Rhosyn confirmed quietly. "It was hard, but the
healers took care of her. She's still trying to figure everything out but
she's working again. Lanniya, some of my wingriders, and one of the Weyrfolk
helped to cover some of the duties." There was a note of pride there. Rhosyn
knew she could count on her Weyrfolk to pitch in if it was needed.
"That's terrible news to hear, but it's good that so many stepped up
to cover it. It sounds like your wing in particular is well staffed
and trained," he complimented.
Unable to stop herself, she let loose a yawn. "Well is there anything
else you wanted to know? If not, we have Threadfall tomorrow. And we can
always talk more later as you think of things." One hand went behind her
to scratch her back once or twice.
"Yes, we shouldn't stay up too late," K'ran agreed. "Need a hand
scratching that?"
She brought her head up, considering him for a moment. With the intimacies
already shared, what did it matter? Rhosyn felt strange a bit giving him that
familiarity but at least he was trying. It could be better than things had
been. And she was going to have to get familiar with him, anyhow. "Sure. What
say you get out of those flying leathers and we just go to bed? Then you can
scratch whatever you want."
"Sounds good to me. After all, there'll be early meetings tomorrow."
With that, he headed off to the private area so he could get changed.
