Xeladrie was very appreciative for the existence of the special
hurricane storm shelter. It was very busy with yet another hurricane to bunker down against. Bryvin had been busy organizing all the men to prepare the outside of the Hold before it struck, so she hadn't seen much of her husband for several candlemarks.
It had been Yriadha's job to organize the domestic workers to prep the shelter downstairs to receive all the people. Xeladrie hadn't been _forced_ to do anything - she was the Lady after all - but she had chosen to help out with making up the beds and checking to make sure everything had been cleaned out and supplies set in. It gave her a chance to do something with her hands and feel productive.
Now the preparations were done and the storm was upon them. Everyone was sealed into the shelter. There was nothing to do but wait it out. So she sat in a chair, rocking Brylex.
"How's he holding up?" Bryvin finally settled next to his wife and son. They were at a point in the storm where he had nothing left to do until it blew over.
"He doesn't like the noise and bustle of the people. It's hard for him to sleep," Xeladrie replied. "How's the Hold?"
"We should only get a glancing blow and the winds will likely calm down coming overland like they are." He looked down into his son's face and his tiny frown. Knowing the layout of the shelter he realized there was really no place for her to have any privacy. "Still we're going to get hurt, but we'll have to deal with it when we go back topside. We're safe here," he reassured her when he saw the worry in her eyes.
"I believe you that the shelter will hold us safe, but what of the outlying cots?" She didn't like the thought of people being hurt.
"They have their own shelters. Hurricanes are fairly common in this area." He put his arm around her and gave her a gentle hug. "We send out crews after it's over to take damage reports and send out the appropriate help."
"The Weyr helped my father's territory when a minor hold was
destroyed. Hopefully the Weyrwoman will be as generous this time," she fretted, settling against him. It was sometimes hard to remember her resentment when he was making kind gestures.
"The Weyr is very helpful here as well," he nodded. "They provide teams to ride sweeps and look for issues we might have missed on the ground."
"I had so wanted to see our territory from the air before it looks like this," she said softly, imagining how it would look now.
"Speaking of the air, we can go to the next Hatching? I'll be able to /between/ then, assuming they offer us a ride," she asked after a moment, grasping on a more pleasant thought. Surely K'dee would offer to take them.
"I don't have any personal friends amongst the dragonriders but I'm sure we can ask to see if someone would be willing to give us a tour from the air." He smiled down at her. Of course he'd been working his way toward making some of those friendships so he could call on them if the need ever arose.
"I also have no problem with you attending the coming hatching." There was no chance for her to be carrying another child as they hadn't yet resumed relations. "You should have a new dress made for the occasion. They are quite spectacular at the feast."
"I'd love to. There are talented seamstresses here who could do
something lovely. As long as my figure is still good..."
If that wasn't fishing for a compliment he didn't know what was, but he was in an indulgent mood and picked up her hand to bring it to his lips. "Your figure is only enhanced but the effect of your motherhood my dear." That at least was truthful. Her once slim figure had rounded in the most delightful places.
She'd been so worried she would become unattractive and worthless afterward. "Thank you, my lord. We'll look stunning at the hatching, I hope."
Despite his normal suspicion of other's motives, Bryvin could only be enchanted by his young wife. She had been exemplary and proved her worth by providing him with an heir promptly. Besides that she was lovely even if she did look so very much like his lost Elarie he could forgive her for that. "Yes, you will," he agreed.
"Do we have any idea when the next one will be?"
"Oh that will be a few months after we hear about the next gold
flight. In fact you'll kind of feel it if they pass overhead." He waggled an eyebrow and gave her an intimate smile. "The next one should be soon."
"I have heard they're quite an experience," she said boldly. "Are firelizard ones the same when yours are involved? Glimmer is getting older..."
"Not exactly," he said carefully. He'd experienced a gold flight
overhead at one time and couldn't begin to imagine what it must be like for their riders. "But the experience is... heightened."
"It sounds pleasing," she said, meaning it. She did like what Bryvin could do with her body on his own. If firelizard or dragon feelings were involved...
"Oh very much so," he leaned toward her a little bit and whispered so he wouldn't be overheard. "How much longer do you think," he breathed before nibbling on her earlobe. He found himself more than a little stimulated by her interest in the subject.
"For what?" she asked. Her hand went up onto his arm to push him away slightly. "We're in public," she added.
That made him chuckle and he pulled away slightly. "Where's the harm in letting our people see us enjoying one another," he murmured. His eyes swept the area nearby and saw more than one auntie with a smile on her face.
"Enjoying, or _enjoying_?" she asked with a faint blush.
Bryvin couldn't resist the blush and lifted her fingers to his lips. "Any way you like it My Lady." The humor in his voice was evident as he flirted with his wife.
"I think some might have to wait for later," she said, thinking of how she'd rather privacy and their own rooms. But there was no harm in moving a little closer, and laying her head on his shoulders.
