Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 5, day 19 of Turn 8
The day had dawned bright and sunny and the weather was perfect for a Gather. Corowal was heading outside to keep his speech which would officially open the harvest feast. The children had gone ahead with Erassa. They were so excited that they couldn't stay put and Erassa decided to take them out to see how the stalls were set up. Corolia was going to take part in the pie-baking contest with a citrus pie. She had help baking it, so it was up to anybody's guess how much she had actually baked herself.
Corowal spotted Sarban and gestured the Steward to come over.
"Good morning, Sarban. Felyna is unable to attend, she's not feeling well," he told him. Actually, the healers had ordered her to bedrest.
As usual, Sarban had a board with hide on it and was checking things off as he walked the grounds. He stayed in certain places so people knew where to find him if something came up. This was Corowal's day to enjoy, Sarban's day to work. "Oh...is everything allright?" he spoke in low tones, realizing people were listening.
"She's feeling sick," Corowal said with low, concerned voice. "Other than that, everything's fine. The kids woke up before crack of dawn, they've been so excited. How are the preparations? All set?"
The healers would be seeing to the Lady Holder. It wasn't very serious or Corowal would have been back at the Hold instead of here. Sarban tried to concentrate back on the business at hand. "Everything's set to be on time. The harpers have shown up of course. The other crafters are just about ready. Now the holders we've got managing the events are at their stations." He was sincerely hoping there weren't any huge problems today. They had ribbons to hand out for the winners. "Hopefully Aivorn has the runners ready to go. I haven't headed over there yet." The Master knew his business so Sarban didn't bother too much.
"Of course he has," Corowal had all confidence in their stablemaster. "So, are you going to place any bets?" he asked, when they resumed a slow walk towards the Gather square's center. "Luter already challenged me to bet on runner racers. He believes he has stallion who can win with our Emerald Champion." Corowal liked the Holder of Green Acres, there was always this friendly rivalry between them.
"Honestly I'm still smarting from the one I lost last gather. This time, I may just do a few smart purchases and leave the winnings to everyone else. Then again, I may just buy a racing runner of my own one day. I wouldn't have to bet to gather winnings then." He wiggled his brows. They both knew Sarban knew nothing about runners and that would be ridiculous. That was why they had beastcrafters to handle that sort of thing.
Corowal chuckled. "I bet Aivorn wouldn't sell you some old nag," he grinned impishly. "Better stick to what you're familiar with. Do you know what I miss from Coral Bay? Sailing races."
"Aye, I miss those as well. Something tells me riverboat races wouldn't work out quite the same though." Something in his tone said Sarban had already thought about it. "We could let people do it individually with canoes though?"
"Maybe next time, it's worth considering," Corowal said and waved at Erassa and the children. "Now, let's go to meet the dignitaries before I'll have my opening speech."
"Aye, let's." Sarban chuckled, knowing it was going to be a long day.
