Rhosyn uncrossed her legs. Marking off all the updates on the injured
dragons that she'd see coming into her wing in the coming sevendays as
well as those that were healed and leaving soon, the Weyrwoman sighed.
**Good, now that's done.** Her eyes came back up to meet Y'gel's. They
saw each other regularly but a lot had happened recently and she did
find it easy to talk to the man. "So how's life?"
"Good for me," he smiled. "Briata is a treasure and I don't think I'd
want to try to live my life without her at this point. The kids are
growing like weeds. But then you know that," he waved his hand in her
direction.
He couldn't say she was a frequent visitor but she was consistent and
didn't ignore her daughter as some might have feared.
"Maybe I should ask you the same question," he leveled his gaze at her.
"Well....just when I thought things were settling down...Orlaith pulled a
fast one." She grinned with love for her dragon. "Still and all, I like K'ran.
He's competent, just needs to get used to everything here. And he's young,
which is nice. Lenala's been flying for awhile. The hurricane business is pretty
much dealt with. So I have more time for me now."
"She did, didn't she," he smiled. "But I've heard good things about
him." Y'gel thought a moment about her other concerns. He knew she
carried a heavy burden for the Weyr but then her character and ability
is one reason the gold would have chosen her to begin with. "You've
had a difficult patch, I know. I'm glad you're finally getting some
rest. I'm sure the people healers would agree." He didn't hide the dry
humor with the emphasis on people versus dragon healers. It was a long
standing rivalry amongst the various types and one she would have been
very familiar with as a dragon healer herself.
"Ah well Reeva gave me the look." She looked down at mention of the Master
Healer, though she was fond of her. "And I think it will be good for
the Weyr itself to settle down into routines again. All the changes in
leadership, injuries, the hurricane work.... hopefully before long
they'll forget that K'ran is new and just let the man work. And maybe
we'll have eggs again." This Hatching she was looking forward to since
the mood would be different for her. Nothing else holding her back.
"Good," he nodded knowing how much the healers had to chase the
Weyrwoman to get her to take care of herself. "Oh, you're certainly
having eggs," Y'gel chuckled. He made a habit of checking up on
pregnant queens as a matter of course.
"And if they're good eggs, people won't be able to hold that against Rogueth
either. Besides, I'm thinking of doing something different for this Hatching feast
but I have to talk to Solieira. Should be fun." She grinned to herself
for a second before watching Y'gel. "Y'gel, what do you think of River
Bluff now versus River Bluff then?"
"I guess it would depend on which 'then' you were talking about," he
dimpled at her. "I've been here a very long time." He'd lived through
quite a few leadership changes so it wasn't as if K'sedel had been the
only Weyrleader or Rhosyn its Weyrwoman. "You've done a good job here
Rhosyn and I'm sure you'll continue. We'll see what kind of Weyrleader
K'ran will be."
"How is Gelira?" Rhosyn had hoped things had ended up well for her at
Dragonsfall even with everything the girl had had to deal with. Of course
there hadn't been much she could do with her in another Weyr.
"I don't hear from her as often as I'd like but from what I can tell,
she's happy. That's what's important right?" He hoped as much for
Rhosyn to have found at least a bit of happiness with K'ran. Perhaps that
was why she'd asked the questions she had. "I'm probably going to head
over there in the next few days to see the grandbaby."
"Oh that's good. I have a nephew there. Seen him a few times." Luckily,
Nisheyl was taken care of and she didn't have to worry over her like Gelira.
She wasn't far either, like that. R'gelen was different-he wasn't her direct
responsibility and the boy seemed to do fine enough on his own without need
of her or his parents. "How old's the child now?" The goldrider had a bad memory
for things like that.
Y'gel smiled. "He'll be a turn in a couple of months. It's
unbelievable how fast the children grow. It still seems like yesterday
Gelira was born." He paused a moment. "Want me to take any message to
your nephew?" He didn't know if they were at all close but he didn't
remember Rhosyn talking about him before.
"Yeah....before you know it, they're old enough to be talking back to you."
Of course she didn't like to think how old that made her. "Oh no bother. He
Impressed a half turn ago so if I ever need to I can just get Orlaith
to tell him something." She tilted her head, deciding since the boy was older
now, it wasn't so much of a problem. "He's Blooding this month."
"Well I know W'ser the dragonhealer at Dragonsfall, he's good so your
nephew is in good hands should things not go as planned."
"Apparently G'nir decided to be Weyrlingmaster. I always liked him and he's one
of the few that know about the boy being my nephew. Promised to look after him,
so it'll be okay." Strange how two of the old Weyrleaders had decided to work with
the weyrlings rather than go back to the wings. Rhosyn stood up and grabbed her
hide stack. "Well time to go talk to the people healers. Wish me luck."
"Best of luck Weyrwoman," Y'gel stood and smiled.
