It was quiet in his laboratory and Chupsin had made sure everyone left
working outside wouldn't bother him for the next while. The healer
pulled out the blood samples and set everything out that he needed. He
made sure to use redwort all over his hands and arms after placing a
linen mask over his mouth. Better safe than sorry, after all. Then he
began working. First he pulled out the glass pieces, each labeled with
a number. Then he put some blood on each of the strips. Carefully,
using droppers, he dropped a few drops of blood on the first one. Then
he put a few more on the second one. He waited, watching for the usual
reaction.
It didn't long for the blood to start clumping. When it did, he had
his answer. That solved that issue then. Recording the result on his
record, he then performed the same test for the other two samples he
had managed. Satisfied with the results, he recorded everything in his
record hide and then slowly put everything back where he got it from.
The dirty instruments went into a redwort basin and would then be
washed and boiled later by an apprentice who had the duty. He put the
mask in the dirty linen bin. Then Chupsin left the infirmary, heading
to find the one person he had promised to notify.
Benani stood near the windows when her attendant announced the Healer.
"Chupsin," she smiled as she turned toward him with her babe in her arms.
Tourniquet greeted the Lady but stayed where he was perched on his owner's
shoulder. The bronze did do some looking around though.
"Good day Ladies," he said easily, holding his notations close to his chest.
"I just wanted to let you know-the glass came in and I was able to run the
usual tests. It came out as expected." He didn't say anything else, allowing
her to realize where he was going in case anyone else was nearby.
Benani's eyes lit up and she turned to her attendant. "Thank you
Estarne," she smiled. "That will be all." She turned back to the
healer once the door closed behind the woman. "I imagine someone is
probably listening at the door," she said almost in a whisper.
He shrugged, smiling. And at that moment, Tourniquet took off and
disappeared, presumably to hover on the other side of said door so
that anyone else would be unable to. "The little lady is a match. So
no worries about having to find another donor should something happen
later. And no concerns otherwise."
She gave an audible sigh of relief. "Oh thank you Chupsin," she smiled
and then she looked down into the face of her little daughter with a
smile. "It's such a relief to know."
"Ever your servant, mlady. Besides, she has her father's chin, poor
thing." He gave a mock sigh and then clucked his tongue. "As it is, I
have it recorded just in case anyone ever tries to dispute her claim
to that Bloodline, in the regular records like the others so no one
should think there was any particular reason besides a healer's careful
care." Hopefully anyone knew better than to try and dispute his results.
"Well," Benani grinned, "there is also this," and she pulled down the
back of her daughter's nappy to show a small purplish mark on one of
her nether cheeks. "Zathris has one just like it. So there is no more
doubt at all." She couldn't help the relief that flooded her to have the
good news confirmed at last!
