Darts and Stones

Writers: Avery, Heather
Date Posted: 29th May 2017

Characters: D'kere, T'shi
Description: D'kere and T'shi have a social hour.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 12, day 13 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Talwynn

T'shi liked to spend his off-duty time having fun, and he had quite a
collection of games that could be played with two or more people.
Sometimes it was darts with a friend, or a rowdy hand of strip
dragonpoker with 7 wingmates. When he'd passed D'kere in the Dining
Cavern last sevenday, he'd invited the Weyrlingmaster's Second to drop
by his weyr, have some ale, and chat. D'kere seemed like he could use
a break, and T'shi was still curious about the man who'd won Talwynn's
heart.

"Hello the weyr," D'kere called as he passed through Iberath's
weyrcouch and walked up the pathway to the main chamber. Kenirath gave
a greeting to Iberath before taking off to sun with Riveth.

"Hey, D'kere. How are you doing?" T'shi asked. He was arranging the
games on the shelf when the other man walked in. "I am so ready for
the snow to stop for good," he added. "Isn't it spring?"

"Oh you know Dragonsfall, it doesn't care what season it is, it'll
snow whenever it wants." D'kere said as he took a seat. He'd been a
little hesitant about hanging out with T'shi, but Talwynn had insisted
that it would be fine.

"If it snows in the middle of the summer, I'm going to regret moving
here. I like seeing it. In winter. But summer is a thing that's
great," T'shi said dramatically as he set down some mugs.

"I grew up here so I guess I'm just use to it. Fortunately warm
beaches are just a dragon ride away." D'kere had talked to many
transfers that felt the same way as T'shi.

"Wine or ale? I have a new wheat one from Amber Hills," T'shi said.

Once it was poured, he asked, "Ever think about going somewhere else?"

"Not really, I like it here. Also, my mother is here, she would
probably assassinate me if I tried." D'kere grinned a little. He was a
grown man but he still respected his mother.

"You'll be in more trouble then a Weyrbrat caught peeking at a gold's
eggs, eh? My family's a lot more loose about where we live, enough of
us have dragons it doesn't matter." He grinned.

"Understandable. I'm my mother's only child, no siblings. I like warm
places, though, if Talwynn wanted to go I would consider it." That
would be about the only way he would leave.

"I haven't heard her say she wants to go back to Dolphin Cove, if that
helps," T'shi said. "we thought she'd come back after she was hurt,
but I think she didn't want us to see her like that."

D'kere nodded at that, he could completely imagine Talwynn not wanting
her family to see her hurt, "She wants people to think she's
invincible."

"She does. But she's opening up to you, that says something good about
you." T'shi had been curious about the idea of Talwynn in an actual
relationship. But he could see D'kere's appeal from chatting with the
man; he seemed stable and practical, but also sweet and sincere, in a
way that could balance her out.

And now things shaded somewhat serious. Bah. "I should be lucky enough
to find someone like you. Got an unweyred sister?" he asked, striking
a coy pose.

"Afraid not, I figured a social guy like yourself would have a few
ladies on the side." D'kere had never been incredibly social, not
because he didn't want to be, he just wasn't gifted with gab.

"I have greenflights and flings but nobody serious. Yet, anyway. I
suppose I'm too new at Dragonsfall to look like a longterm partner,
people need to try me out first."

"Nothing wrong with that, some of these women at Dragonsfall are crazy
any, best to take you time." The bronzerider grinned.

"Anyone I should be avoiding?"

D'kere shifted in his chair, "Well, I don't like to talk about people
but, uh," and then he coughed the word, "Penelle."

The name didn't ring a bell to T'shi. "Rider or caverns?

"Caverns. She will cling to you faster than a babe to a tit and claim
you're the father of it." D'kere raised his eyebrows in warning.

"Oh nooo," the brownrider said. "That's not a complication I need.
Thanks for the warning."

"Exactly, don't get lured in by her womanly charms, because... She
_does_ have some _womanly_ charms." D'kere emphasized certain words
with a lift of his eyebrows.

He snorted. "I bet she's a flight moth type?"

"Oh yeah, which, I mean, isn't bad when there's a flight, but there's
nothing like a clingy moth afterwards." D'kere shuddered.

It didn't sound like T'shi's idea of fun, either. "Especially the ones
who want to have your kids. I hope I don't have any by moths. or if I
did, nobody's told me."

He paused, then decided to pry. "Any kids of your own? _Want_ any?"

"No I don't, not that I know of anyway." D'kere answered since as a dragonrider you never could be completely sure about fathering children. "I guess I wouldn't mind some, it would be up to Tal."

"Good luck talking her into it, but if anyone can, it's probably you," T'shi said.

"So which sounds better, darts, or that new stones on a board game that's been going 'round the caverns?"

D'kere stood and stretched his throwing arm, "Darts, it's probably the only thing I'll have a chance at beating you in."

"Sounds good to me."
