A long eared spotted canine bonded past a young woman sitting on the beach.
He was chasing after a ball. In the distance there was a young man with bright blonde hair calling to him. The canine stopped and looked at her with a slight wag of his tail. The young man noticed his canines distraction and began jogging toward them. "Hello there, little buddy. You want me throw your ball?" Ava grinned at the canine. She picked up the slop-covered ball and tossed it. The canine gave chase. The young man made it to her and smiled. "I...must... oppologize... for ...him." He said slightly out of breath. "Hey, no need to. He's kind of cute and I don't mind beasts," Ava replied with a friendly smile.

"He loves to make friends where he can. I am Herimos and that fine fellow is Lord Puddles." He said once his breath had returned. He watched his canine out of the corner of his eye. "Hi, I'm Kustaava. Lord Puddles?" Ava asked incredulously. "I know, the name seems to make no sense. In a way it does, The spots on him look like puddles and he is anything but lordly. He seems to be to silly to be a lord. So I called him Lord Puddles because, most people judge by what they see. He has puddle spots and doesn't seem lordly. When in truth he is the greatest of lords. Well in his own mind anyway. He believes that all of us are his and he can lick us as he pleases." He smiled as the canine walked over and licked her hand. He dropped the slimy slobber covered ball.

"You know, I was actually thinking puddles on the floor when you said his name," Kustaava confessed with a giggle. "Well, he did do that. Not so much anymore though." He smiled. He could not help but notice the young womans brown hair. It made him think whistfully of his lost brown haired beauty.

Kustaava smiled and threw the ball again. "My father never allowed pets," she remarked, watching the canine chase after the ball. "As soon as he moved to his own cot, my oldest brother took a puppy. Now they have three." "Well, if you want you can always play with Lord Puddles. He would love it." He smiled gently. He turned a bit to watch his canine and smiled. His eyes lit up and all worry lines fell away from his face. The sun gently caressed his skin and shown in his blond hair.

Ava studied him discreetly from under her eyelashes. He really was a good looking guy. The weyr seemed to be full of them. Herimos turned and smiled. He could almost mistake her for his Bayanna. "So, how long have you been at this Weyr?" He asked. He sat beside her in the sand. He knew he needed to start again fresh. Not let his past hold him back. He was just afraid to.

"Not long, a little over a month. I was searched for the previous clutch and arrived only few days before it," Kustaava answered. "I'm still a bit new. I've been here a few days only." He glanced over at her. "What was it like to stand? Were you terrified?"

"Terrified, no. Excited, nervous, hopeful and awed, yes. It was really amazing to see those eggs crack up and reveal the dragonets. There were all so beautiful," Kustaava replied. The last sentance was said with a dreamy voice. "Are you excited to stand at this next one even though there are so few eggs?" he asked.

"Yes, I am. Maybe I'm not quite as sure that I'll impress this time." "Oh, I think you will. Your to pretty not to be riding a beautiful green."
He blushed when he realized what it was he had said.

"Thank you, " Ava said softly. His blushing was so cute. Herimos had not expected to find a young woman that looked like his Bayanna. He smiled over at her. "I hope you do impress. Me, I'm less sure I will. There are so many who have been here longer." "Well, that's something that the dragon's will decide, or so I've been told several times by now." "Guess we will have to wait and see. I'll be cheering you on." He said with a smile that lit his eyes.

"And I will be cheering on you, " Ava promised.
