Characters: Lanniya, J'ackt, R'enh, Pierka, A'vel, K'ran, A'kades
Description: Dolphin's cove sends aid.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 12, day 20 of Turn 8
The moment they appeared over River Bluff, Lanniya's hands began to
tremble as she took in the devastation. She swallowed hard, felt her
lips tremble and had to blink back tears from behind her riding
goggles. She shook herself, blinked them back, and sought out familiar
minds as Anaeryth led her group in a wide circle over the Weyr.
**Rogueth? Volaith? Nikoranth? Aughashyth?** Anaeryth assisted by
bugling her presence, searching for the familiar dragons of her
rider's memory.
**Down there,** R'enh pointed toward the bluff where it looked like
most of the survivors were congregated. Leading the small wing of
relief riders he ordered them down to land far enough not to interfere
with the ongoing work.
}:We work with the injured,:{ Aughashyth responded to the familiar
voice with assurance they were alright. }:Mine is tired but still
works, Rogueth is injured.:{
Pierka followed the others down to land right where R'enh told them.
She slid off Liddith and then ran to join the other riders from
Dolphin Cove.
Lanniya landed as close as she could, directing Anaeryth to help calm
some of the injured dragons. She slid down Anaeryth and ran to Y'gel,
looking at his face and openly checking to see if he was injured. "Are
you okay? Is Aughashyth okay?" She remember then what she was supposed
to be asking and trying to steady herself. "What do you need? I can
send back for supplies and more riders. Cyradis is supposed to be
getting everything together right now."
A'vel was one of the Dolphin Cove riders who had come with Lanniya's
team. He had only been to River Bluff before as part of the
visualization training and he was appalled to see the state it was in
now. Rock piles everywhere, the ground soaked, and the men and dragons
spread across the plateau. Many voices were keening in pain or grief.
It was head-hurting to him, and what must it be like to Lanniya? She'd
Impressed here, she knew the folks, and she could hear the dragons'
pain with her mind as well as her ears.
An image of this being Dolphin Cove hit him and A'vel shuddered
convulsively in the seat, chilled despite the area's warmth.
Tsogath's normal exuberance was very muted as she landed slowly, ready
to respond as needed.
A'kades saw the familiar gold dragon arrive at the Weyr, along with a
few other dragons and their riders. He'd just been updated by the
Healers that the Weyrleader had woken and was being checked for a
concussion, and he thought he'd greet them and bring them to the
planning tent.
"Lanniya, it's good to see you," A'kades said. He was so glad she hadn't
been here for the fall of the caverns, but now she was here seeing the
dragons' suffering as well. With her particular talent he thought it
must be awful.
"I'm A'kades, Weyrlingmaster's Second," he said to the rest of the
party, none of whom he knew well. Though he recognized R'enh since
he'd visited River Bluff before. "I can take you over to the tent
where the Weyrleader is."
He led them over to the tent where K'ran was. It contained a cot as
well as a table and two chairs. Not enough space for everyone to sit,
so he stood silently just inside the tent and let the visiting
authorities do the talking.
K'ran had just awoken a few minutes before and been checked for a
concussion. Now he was sitting in a private tent, sipping a cup of
medicinal brew that he'd been handed by a Healer. He saw A'kades lead
a party of people over, including Lanniya, R'enh, and some riders he
didn't know.
He continued sitting on the cot rather than trying to get up and use a
chair at the table. K'ran knew he must be a sight with bruises on his
chest and face and the left arm in a sling.
"It's good to see you both," K'ran said, his tone tired.
"Sir," R'enh said sticking out his hand. "Dolphin Cove will assist you
as needed. We're organizing supplies and can evacuate anyone you think
needs a more stable location.
K'ran extended his good hand to shake R'enh's. "I appreciate you
providing assistance to us, Weyrsecond R'enh. That's quite a generous
offer of aid."
It was a much appreciated one as well. They were going to need
supplies with so many of theirs buried under the rocks, and they had
enough people in the Weyr that they couldn't all live atop the bluff
for however long they'd need to. The wounded and the young and old
were most critical.
"We're going to have several groups who likely need evacuation. Would
Dolphin Cove be able to take those wounded who would be safe to
transport via dragon? Or would it put too much strain on your
infirmary?"
Lanniya spoke up, her eyes searching K'ran's face and taking in his
injuries with obvious distress. "Zith and can take some and so can
Tsogath." She pointed at the two riders behind her. Cyradis and our
Headwoman are already getting our infirmary ready." She looked behind
her at Pierka. "I think Liddith can help ferry supplies for those who
can't be transported." She turned back to K'ran and R'enh. "Cyradis
thought that it might be helpful for Anaeryth to stay here and keep
the dragons calm, since she's a River Bluff Queen. We'll help where
ever we're needed."
R'enh smiled at Lanniya when she looked at him. He nodded and even
winked. "Mnoranth is also available to take anyone who needs to be
transported." From what he'd seen of the injured, some of them would
need to be treated very gently. Of course the sorrow over the loss of
a gold made for pale whitish eyes in all the dragons he could see.
"But first if you can give us an idea of your most critical needs we
will send riders back to Dolphin Cove so they can begin preparing to
receive the wounded and bring supplies."
K'ran wasn't sure what had been saved yet and what they needed most.
"I do know we could use more tents to shelter the people who will be
staying on the Bluff," he said. "We should be able to catch fish and
cook them over fires, but I don't know how much heavy kitchen
equipment anyone hauled up here."
"I would talk to the Master Healers and Dragonhealers to see what they
need for Infirmary supplies, as I believe that they have a better
sense of their needs," A'kades suggested.
Taking a deep breath, Lanniya nodded. "Okay." She turned to Pierka.
"Pierka, can you get with Y'gel and get a list of things he needs and
then you and A'vel can gather them from Chaysea? Liddith and Tsogath
can send a message ahead to Panitath so they can have things ready."
She chewed on her lower lip, then sucked it in. "Uhm...R'enh, maybe
you and J'ackt can work with the healers on who needs to go first and
on the way back bring tents and cookware." Her brow furrowed as she
turned back to A'kades and K'ran. "Has anyone contacted the Healer
Hall? Maybe they have some Healers they can send to help out."
Pierka nodded and immediately set off to find the bronzerider.
R'enh smiled and tilted his head at J'ackt, "Come on J'ackt," he said.
"Lets go find those healers."
