Xeladrie was sitting in the ladies' solar when suddenly Glimmer gave a
shriek and launched herself into the air, chittering wildly. She got
to her feet - slowly, as her pregnancy was now far advanced - and
groaned as she did so. "What's happening?" she asked.

But Glimmer could only send her whirling impressions of agitation and
panic and a need to be outside.

She started following after the flit, and was most of the wat to the
outside when she lost her footing and stumbled. Clumsiness? She
thought so until she swayed again, as though the ground was, and then
lost her footing, falling to the floor of the entrance hall.

"Xeladrie," Bryvin came through the door of his study at a run and
scooped her to her feet. Then he stumbled back to the door and propped
his back against the frame with an arm around her. "Stay in the door
and hold on."

She was grateful for her husband's strength as he aided her up.
"What's happening?" she asked him.

"Earthquake," he said through gritted teeth, "Stay in a doorway, it's
reinforced. Never run outside." He held her against him and braced
with his other arm while the ground continued to heave. It seemed to
last forever but then it was over. "Are you hurt?" He started
examining her with his hands.

"I'm fine, I think. it was just a light fall," she said, but let him
check over her regardless. "I didn't know we got them here..."

"We don't normally," Bryvin said looking down at his wife. "But there
may be after shocks as strong or stronger." He hadn't seen anything
cracking but that didn't mean it hadn't. "I'll send a message to the
Weyr to see if we can find out anything. Will you be alright here?"

"I think so. Is it safe to sit down?" she asked hesitantly. She didn't
want to fall again - not big and ungainly like this. It wouldn't be
good for her or the baby.

"Yes" he said and helped her sit. "Just make sure you stay in the
doorway until I come back for you." He reached out a grabbed a running
understeward. "Stay here with my Lady wife until I return." He braced
as another shock trembled the ground beneath their feet. A piece of
plaster fell from the wall above and he pulled the steward just into
place to protect Xeladrie.

"Ill be right back," he patted the young man's shoulder and ran
through the front door protecting his head from falling debris.

Mardris looked down at the Lady seated on the floor. "Are you all
right m'Lady?" He was shaken and not sure what to do but charged with
her safety he was determined to do the job.

"Yes, I think so. I've never felt one of these before, have you?" she
asked hesitantly.

"No ma'am he said softly. "But it sure looks like Lord Bryvin has."
He turned his head as he heard drums pounding out a message. Then a
big canine came trotting in the door. Captain was the Lord's and
usually followed him around faithfully but this time he trotted up to
the Lady and pushed his nose into her hand with a slowly wagging tail.

Xeladrie wrapped her arms along the soft body of the canine and rubbed
against his fur. She moved one hand down against her swollen belly,
feeling the baby kick. **Not now, please not now,** she pleaded. She
wasn't quite there yet the Healer had said, but it would be soon. And
she didn't want it to be in the middle of whatever was going on.

She hoped her husband spoke to a watchrider soon and found out what
was happening.

"Volcano?" Mardris asked the question of the thin air. Then he looked
down at the Lady. "Sorry ma'am," he said. "The drums... there is a new
Volcano in the ocean and they're expecting a tsunami. I'll bet that's
probably what caused the earthquakes."

Captain's ears perked up and he woofed in the direction of the door
just as Bryvin came striding back around. "Thank you Mardris, go find
your mother and sister and get them away from the waterfront. Tell
everyone. The warning bell near the drum tower began to ring with
warning for people to get away from the water.

Bryvin smiled down at her. "Brylex is already outside with his nurse."
He said as he pulled her to her feet.

In the confusion and shock, she hadn't thought about their son at all.
"That's good news," she said. "Where do we have to go?"

"Outside while it's not shaking," he said picking her up. "I'll have
you safe in a few minutes."

She let him carry her to safety outside. The Hold's grounds were
bustling as people were heading uphill for safety.

"Have you heard from the Weyr yet?" she asked, thinking of K'dee - or
whoever was on watchduty this sevenday. Surely thye'd have news of
what was happening...

And that was when K'dee actually found the Lord and his Lady. "Sir,"
he said. "I have news from the Weyr."

"Did something happen?" Xeladrie asked, holding her hand over her belly.

"I'm sorry to say there has been a tsunami and an earthquake, Details
are sketchy still. I don't yet know the full extent, but Vatonth is
listening out for more."

"Is anyone hurt? Will they be able to send us help?" It sounded like
the Weyr had been badly hit themselves.

"I really don't know, and with Vilarth grounded I just don't know,
yet," replied K'dee. "I've been asked to stay here, and report on
conditions."

"We'll make do here, It's not so bad." Bryvin looked down toward the
docks. "I need to go down there and see who needs help." He looked at
the rider. "Can you stay here with her for a bit?"

"Of course, if that's all right with the lady," replied K'dee

"I understand you have duties, husband. I don't mind waiting here with
the bronzerider," Xeladrie assured Bryvin. She liked K'dee. And this
gave her an idea.

Bryvin kissed his wife tenderly then clapped the rider on the
shoulder, "Take care of her."

"I will, you have my word on that," said K'dee.
