Description: Lafael forces himself to go to the destroyed Sea Hall

Date: month 1, day 8 of Turn 9
The path was familiar. How many times had he walked this way, his heart full of hope, Lafael wondered. Too many times, that was for sure. Too many times where he walked right on back to the Hold. Too many times of indecision, of worry and too many times of hope.
He knew what he would see. The other drudges had already told him back when he had finally gotten out of the Healer cot and back to work. The place would be wretched, the houses shattered beyond recognition.
Lafael knew how bad it would be just by looking at the trees before him. At first only a few were bent, broken but as he came closer there were more and more. And then the entire scene opened before him.
The path went no further, even it was gone.
Lafael took a few more steps and then he stopped. There was no need to go further. The Sea Hall was not recognizable as a place where people had once lived. His eyes strayed to where the boats had anchored. There was nothing man-made there. All the boats had been destroyed. No one could tell him what had happened to the 'Sea Breeze,' the boat that he had been supposed to be on, the boat that was going to be the beginning of a new life for him. He let his gaze stray to where he had first met the Hallmaster, but there was simply nothing there. The Hallmaster was presumed dead, he had been told.
It had been a long month since the tsunami. Already the incident that had broken Lafael's mind was fading into the back of his memories. But looking at this...this wreck brought it all back, of how he had been so full of hope for the first time in his young life.
There was nothing more to see and no reason to be here. Lafael gritted his teeth. Some people just got the wrong end of the stick of life, he told himself. Some people were lucky, some weren't. He turned and walked away, not allowing himself to turn back for one last look. What would be the point, anyways? To remind himself that he was one of the unlucky ones?
Just then something caught his eye. Something white half buried under a pile of broken wood. He squinted his eyes and then he saw it clearly. It was a piece of a boat. It read 'a Breez' and nothing more. But it was enough.
Lafael's time of dreaming, his time of hope, was over.
For the final time he walked the lonely path from the Sea Hall to the Hold.
