Description: M'galec overhears two other healers gossiping about Abrei and U'kaiah.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 20 of Turn 3
M'galec sat studying the chart of the bluerider he had operated on the month before. He wasn't progressing quite as well as he would like, and they thought maybe M'galec would have to go back in again. It was completely vexing. He leaned his forehead on his hand as he read.
"Shards, and did you see the shirt she was wearing when they left. Wooooo,"
the Journeyman Dampur said fanning himself dramatically. "I had never wanted to be a bronzerider so much in my life!"
"I wonder why they're the only ones who ever get a chance," Kyjare replied, stroking his chin as if deep in thought. "She certainly hasn't shown off her considerable assets for anyone else. All _I_ ever get is the sharp side of her tongue and the disappointed look."
"Oh yeah, the disappointed look," Dampur shuddered. "Well, I don't think we're gonna get it today. She's just practically glowing. Well, as much as _she_ can glow."
M'galec really wished they would take their talk of their adolescent fantasy girl elsewhere. He didn't know who they were talking about or why, but he had _real_ work to do...
"Let's just hope _he's_ glowing as much as she is," Kyjare retorted. "I got used to not having her around all the time the last time she found herself a playmate. And she was so _friendly_ in the mornings..."
"Come on, Kyjare, wouldn't _you_ be glowing if you could get a hands on anatomy lesson like that?" Dampur grinned. M'galec rolled his eyes and cleared his throat, trying to remind them that other people were using the room too. It didn't work. "I bet she's a real feline between the sheets."
Kyjare grinned. "She kept R'han around for months, and we all know _he's_
seen just about everything there is to see."
Wait, M'galec knew that name from somewhere...
"Well, I saw the bronzerider that came to collect her," Dampur said with a deep sigh. "Shards, I wouldn't mind if he came to take _me_ away."
"Fine, you go right ahead and woo him," Kyjare replied with a wink. "Give the rest of us a chance at the luscious and lovely Weyrhealer. I don't know if I'm man enough to survive her temper, but what a way to die." M'galec's chin slipped right off his hand. **Abrei? They're talking about _Abrei_?!**
"Maybe that's why she's always with bronzeriders. They're the only ones who can survive Abrei's ravishing passion," Dampus agreed.
Abrei? Uptight Abrei? She had been collected by a bronzerider and come back in the _morning_? _Smiling_???
Kyjare snorted. "Were you here when R'han came tearing in here after Tabarnith's flight? She _pretended_ nothing happened, but you should have seen their faces when they came out of the storerooms..."
"Oh, trust me, I think we all knew what was going in there. I think half of us were afraid we would be called in to perform recesitation!"
M'galec's eye brows raised in surprise. Was that the bad flight experience U'val had talked about? No, that had been turns ago! So she had experienced flight lust since then? He almost blushed as his mind flashed to Abrei under flight lust. The bronzerider decided that was a very bad thought to have.
"But the rest of the day..." Kyjare sighed happily. "She didn't snap at anyone the entire rest of the day. Maybe we should see if we can convince that bronzerider to stop by during lunch and put a smile on her face. It would make the afternoons run more smoothly." "Do you think we could maybe make it a prescription. 'Master Abrei, for your personal health, we have decided you should take one bronzerider in the morning when you wake up, once before eating lunch, and again before going to bed?'"
M'galec rolled his eyes. Insensitive dimglows.
Kyjare snorted. "Yeah, you go ahead. I'll be right behind you... running. If I run fast enough, maybe she'll just stick to hurting _you_. She looks happy this morning, but not _that_ happy." Dampur shrugged. "Well, its a whole lot closer to a smile than what has been on her face lately." "Let's just hope it _stays_ there," Kyjare said firmly. He winked at Dampur and then spared a grin for M'galec. "Can't argue with that, can you M'galec?"
"I'm sorry? I wasn't listening. I was reading my journal... _chart_," he quickly corrected. "What are we talking about?"
Kyjare grinned at Dampur. "The Weyrhealer's good mood, and how we can make it last. Now that I think of it..." Kyjare's grin turned wicked. "You're a bronzerider, aren't you..."
"Ooooo... That's riiiight... And a little closer to home, if you know what I mean," Dampus said giving his friend a knowing nudge.
"I really don't know what you are talking about," M'galec said clearing his throat.
"She likes bronzeriders," Kyjare informed him slyly. "Really likes them, I mean. She runs through them awful fast, though, so maybe you could step up and do your duty to the infirmary by keeping her... satisfied."
"I'm sure I don't know what you mean," M'galec huffed. "I am a happily weyrmated man. And Master Abrei deserves a bit more respect than the two of you talking about her love life like this. I am just happy that... well that she seems to be happy. Now I'm trying to read my journal."
"I thought it was a chart," Dampur smiled.
The bronzerider gave him a chilly stare. "Whatever."
Kyjare snorted. "I don't care _how_ happily you're weyrmated. Don't tell me you're not even _tempted_." M'galec raised his eyebrows. "I'm a man, aren't I?" He would have to be blind, homosexual, or dead to not be at least a _little_ tempted after all.
"So you could just..." Kyjare waved his hand. "Cheer her up once? For us?" "Grow up Kyjare. And you too Dampur. Just leave the poor woman alone and leave _me_ in peace!" The bronzerider turned back to his chart, but he could ignore the fact that he was blushing ever so slightly.
Dampur gave Kyjare a knowing smile and a nod. "Whatever you say, M'galec."
