It was still early in the day, but A'kua still felt as though he'd been put through the wringer. He wondered if everyone felt that way after a meeting with their superiors. Still, at least now he had breakfast and klah to fortify him for this next errand.
He stopped just outside the door to Yanley's office and politely cleared his throat. "Lady Yanley? Are you in?"
"Yes, do come in," Yanley replied. She was feeding breakfast for her firelizard and they chirped a greeting when the recongnized A'kua. "Good morning, A'kua, how can I help you?"
A'kua nodded to the fire-lizards out of habit. Firelloa's Tinate was similarly chirpy at times. "Lys- Illysia and I are leavin' her weyr. It's a good size, inner stair access, nice wide ledge for dragons. So if any weyrmated pairs are needin' to relocate, they have an option. I'll need a single-rider weyr myself," he explained.
"Oh, what happened?" Yanley asked with compassion while taking out the appropiate hides. She first checked A'kua's current weyr. "You had mid-level weyr, facing west, right?"
The bronzerider shrugged. "Ilyssia's transferrin' to Windswept Islands for their dragonhealin' program. I'm not goin' with her." He hoped Yanley wouldn't ask why. It was probably obvious from his heavy tone. "The weyr's got a chest of drawers, big bed, hooks on the wall. Good-sized couch for a dragon. One of those places that's worth a quarrel over."
"Sounds like it won't stay empty for a long," Yanley said, giving him a sympathic smile. He didn't seem to want condolences/comforting so she kept it business like. "Any preferences for your new weyr? Although I have to warn, there's not much choice. The Weyr is packed full."
A'kua shook his head. "It could be the worst one in Dragonsfall and I'd still take it. I know we're short on space for now; I don't want to be too much of a bother."
"Since you're bronzerider, I can't give you the worst one, the ledge would be too small for Zeiranth," Yanley pointed out and consulted her list of weyrs available.
"There's two potential ones. However, the one belonged to a greenrider so the ledge might be too small, although the description indicates it might suit larger dragons too. Other belonged to a brownrider, it's on lower level. We can take a look of them, if you wish," Yanley suggested.
The young man's eyes briefly unfocused. When the glassiness left, he spoke up again. "Zei wants to take a look at that brownrider weyr. He says he'd prefer guaranteed room for visitors."
"Alright, let's take a look of it, then," Yanley replied and picked up her key ring and some hides.
A'kua's eyes glazed over again as they walked, but cleared in due time. When they got outside, Zeiranth was waiting with his harness and a pair of spare straps, fetched from their pegs. A'kua quickly got him buckled up, then held out a hand to the Headwoman as Zeiranth crouched. "Do you need help up?"
"I've mounted a dragon before," Yanley said with polite shake of her head. Hitching up her skirts, she nimbly climbed out to Zeirath's back.
}:I like her, she's graceful,:{ Zeiranth commented as his rider also mounted. }:Where to exactly?:{
A quick conference had them winging into the air a few moments later, then landing on the ledge in question. The bronze approved of it almost immediately, trying to show Yanley so in his eye color and their whirling.
"It seems to be wide enough for him to stretch out his wings," Yanley remarked after they had landed. She dismounted as easily as she has mounted. "Thank you, Zeiranth, that was very smooth flying." She pulled open the leather flap that led to inner weyr. It could be tied aside to let in breeze during summers.
The young bronze made a very happy sound. }:I think she likes me!:{
A'kua's lips twitched. "Zei's so flattered, you've just made a friend for life," he commented as he stepped into the weyr and looked about. It wasn't too big, which was fine with him. There was still room for the essentials, and there was even a very presentable bedframe left behind. He stepped back out to the ledge, surveying the view and how far it was from the ground. It would be easy to fly Firelloa up there for visits. Not that she was scared of heights, but still. "I'll take it."
}:Me too! There's room for a visiting dragon here,:{ Zeiranth said happily.
"Zei approves."
Yanley gave them one of her warm smiles. "He's easy to like. Good, it's settled then. Let me know if there's anything you need to make this place home," she said and walked around, checking the condition of furniture. They all showed signs of wear, but they were solid, well made pieces. She couldn't find any wobbly legs or loose joints.
"Just a couple secondhand weavin's for the walls, nothin' other than that," A'kua stated. "I don't need much, really. Thanks for your help."
"Well, Jessmyr can help you to find them from storages. You're welcome. Now, can I get ride back to the lower caverns?" Yanley
replied and asked.
"Of course." A Headwoman's job was apparently never done. Speaking of Jessmyr, maybe Yanley should ask him help out more where he could. She deserved the assistance.
