Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 5, day 15 of Turn 9
It had come too soon, Saibra thought, with tears blurring her vision
as she sat beside of Chioneth at the Winter Lake. The bucket she kept
for washing her gold sat abandoned nearby with frothy, bubbly water
ready, her scrub brush's handle sticking out of the top.
"I'm sorry, this is silly," she said, voice thick with emotion as
R'enh arrived. "I know I could have just called on some Candidates or,
anyone really, but.... I thought I would have, at least, another
couple of sevendays before I couldn't reach Chioneth over my belly."
He hadn't wanted to comment but Saibra was looking very big and he
even though maybe she was farther along than she'd thought. "Don't
worry sweetheart," he smiled. "I'd be happy to bathe Chioneth if
she'll have me." He bowed to the beautiful gold.
Chioneth turned her head and exhaled lightly right in R'enh's face and
then breathed in the man's scent.
}:She is very upset about not being able to wash me today,:{ she spoke
directly to the bronzerider, a rare thing for Chioneth. The senior
queen settled down further into the water and extended their wings to
their full span so R'enh could get started.
"Thank you," Saibra said as she dashed the tears on her cheeks with
the sleeve of her thin, flowy tunic.
R'enh's eyes opened wide with surprise at the decidedly feminine voice
in his head. But then he grinned and bowed low a second time. He
turned back to Saibra and pulled her gently into his arms "Hey," he
said. "I'm here for you and for her and for anything our little family
needs. You're the Weyrwoman but that doesn't mean you have to do
everything yourself."
"I know," Saibra's voice sounded stuffy from tears. "It's silly to be
emotional over this, I just can't seem to help it." She closed her
eyes and nuzzled into the embrace, inhaling R'enh's familiar, reassuring
scent.
"Much as I'd love to stay right here," he chuckled softly. "I think
there's a gold needs washing." He kissed the top of her head and
turned back to Chioneth. She was bigger than Mnoranth but not so much
that he couldn't see himself washing every beautiful inch of her. He
got to work with a request. "Please let me know how much pressure you
like."
}: A good hard scrub,:{ Chioneth replied to R'enh.
Saibra settled back down onto the shoreline, close enough that the
lapping water could trickle over her toes and feet. She watched the
smooth play of R'enh's muscles as he set to work on cleaning the queen
dragon, and just like that, her emotions swung from disappointment to
desire.
"Good and hard," he replied verbally to the gold. While he was
extremely honored by her speaking directly to him, he was also just a
little unsettled by the experience. Maybe it was partially Mnoranth's
feelings he was experiencing, but he was willing to do whatever she
wanted him to do. Then as he moved he saw Saibra and a very familiar
look in her eyes. A corner of his mouth pulled up and the glint of
humor lit his eyes. "As soon as she says I'm done, love."
Lips quirking into a sultry grin, Saibra closed her eyes and reached
out to her link with Chioneth, practically feeling the rhythmic
brushing on the gold's glistening hide. **Good and hard, alright.**
The Weyrwoman thought to herself gleefully. **Chioneth, love, are you
sure that your hide isn't -**
}: No.:{ Chioneth broke in flatly. }: He has only just begun. I have so
much dust between my wings that I might as well be a common
watchwher.:{ The gold's tone said that the topic wasn't up for
discussion.
Saibra exhaled slowly as she opened her eyes once more, **You are
right.** Even though she didn't say it verbally, Saibra could tell
from the dragon's smugness that she was thinking, 'Of course I am!'
R'enh applied himself to the scrubbing with a smile and a bit of dance
in his step. How many times as a weyrling had he wanted to wash a
queen? He and Mnoranth had known about how their futures would be
entwined with the big gold dragons and couldn't help but imagine how
that might affect their lives. But as he looked over at Saibra he
realized that he'd have loved her just as much if she were a
greenrider or even no rider at all. The dynamic would certainly have
been different but not his heart.
When he got to the point where he thought he'd scrubbed every inch of
her he stood back. "Go ahead and rinse if you think I didn't miss
anything."
Saibra stood and brushed her legs off as Chioneth moved forward,
completely submerging herself and sending waves lapping back up to the
shore as the water swirled behind her.
}:Thank you,:{ Chioneth said politely to R'enh and then to Saibra }:I
will go sun-dry on a rock.:{
R'enh watched her go, then turned to smile at Saibra. "She talked to
me," he said. "She sounds kind of like you."
"You think so?" Saibra reached out a hand to R'enh so he could help
pull her to her feet.
"Well," he said as he drew her up and into his arms. "Maybe _you_
sound like her."
"That sounds like something she would say." Saibra wrapped what she
could of her arms around R'enh's trim waistline, her pregnant belly
trapped between them.
He chuckled and moved one hand to caress the precious life Saibra
carried. Then he bent his neck to kiss her head aware of the smiles
and stares from others around the area. "We should probably take this
into our weyr," he whispered.
Saibra never took her eyes from the bronzerider, "Yes, we should."
